• Public / Private Partnership

• Focus on 9 West Charlotte Corridor Schools

• 5 year goal: 90 – 90 – 90– 90% graduation rate at West Charlotte High School– 90% proficient in Reading, Math, and Science– 90% of students showing growth

Our PROCESS will produce RESULTS

• Schoolwide Student Achievement Goals– Increase by at least 10 percentage points in

reading, math, and science– Decrease the percentage of students who enter

below grade level at the beginning of the year by half at the end of the year

– Achieve high growth in reading and math.

New Testing Standards• Shift From North Carolina Standard Course of

Study (NCSCOS) to Common Core State Standards (CCSS)– Emphasis on 21st Century Skills (Collaboration,

Problem Solving, Reasoning, etc.)– Emphasis on College Readiness– More rigorous– Developmentally Appropriate

• End of Grade Tests are now based on CCSS (potential decrease in proficiency rates across the board)

Strategies to Address Learning

• Balanced Literacy (word work, guided reading, writing, independent reading)

• Lots of Independent Reading with individual and small group attention from teachers, support staff, and teacher assistants

• Integrated units with an emphasis on comprehension

• Read at home daily (at least 30 minutes)

• Daily “Intervention Block” for targeted instruction in literacy and math
