a. Option: create stage decorations prior to activity. Intergenerational Participants 1. Introduction-choose one adult to be the narrator and introduce them to the children.
Sing the hello song. 2. Pair the remaining older adults and children into five IG groups. 3. Give each adult a script with their group’s part highlighted so they know when to
speak. 4. Have the IG groups practice their part in the script (e.g. if the group is chickens have
them practice clucking, snoring, and laughing). 5. Then have the narrator go through the play (see below) with the IG groups acting out
their parts. a. Option: IG groups can dress up or use props.
6. Discuss the play together – which sound did you like the best? Which group was the loudest/most realistic sounds? Which group had the best moves?
7. Sing the goodbye song together holding hands. Special Considerations • Make sure the older adult is comfortable reading a story and taking breaks for the IG
groups to act out their part. The adult may want to practice reading the story in advance.

• Make sure font size of the script is large enough for elders to read; enlarge script font size as needed.
Getting To Know You • Ask your partner what their favorite farm animal is before the play. • Discuss what a farmer does on a farm. Has anyone in the group been to a farm or
worked on a farm? “What needs to be done on a farm?” Encouraging Interaction • Have IG groups discuss the difference between a story, play, and movie. • Have IG groups discuss theme of the play (e.g. What did we learn from the story?
What is a theme? What was the theme of the play?). • Have elder lead the children in acting out the parts in the play, then have the
children lead the adults in acting out the part. Extension Opportunities • Creating stage decorations, costumes, and props before the play. • Creating a play together as a group. • Field trip to a farm and learn what a farmer does and how she or he cares for the
animals and plants.
