Together with the masterpiece of his old age and some piano solo unreleased pieces. INTRODUCTION: This recording has the aim to create a short but significant picture of Gian Carlo Menotti (Cadegliano-Viconago, 1911 – Monte Carlo, 2007): he was an Italian composer then enstablished in the USA. Most of all he was known in Italy for his Spoleto’s Festival dei Due Mondi, on the other hand he was very famous in USA for his very popular operas. The CD presents one of his most renowned operas, The Telephone, which is performed by a very extraordinary cast. The other side of his work, a more intimate and hidden one, consists of a chamber-music production, that here is represented by the Trio. At the end, some interesting and unreleased piano solo pieces, that close the tribute to this composer which in the past was quite ignored in Europe, due to avantgarde predominance - Menotti still remains a very interesting composer to discover. 1 CD CONCERTO 2087 RECORDING: Donizetti Theatre, Bergamo, Italy - December 31st, 2000 (The telephone) Ponzano di Fermo (FM), San Marco church – July 18th 2014 and July 31st 2014. www.concertoclassics.it GIAN CARLO MENOTTI DUE OUT: NOVEMBER 2014 WITH THE GENEROUS SUPPORT OF: THE TELEPHONE Ou l’amour à trois (1947) 23:26 12 POEMETTI (1937) 12 pieces for children GIGA 00:59 LULLABY 01:49 BELLS AT DAWN 00:42 THE SPINNER 01:34 THE BAGPIPERS 01:31 THE BROOK 00:29 THE SHEPHERD 01:35 NOCTURNE 01:38 THE STRANGER’S DANCE 00:46 WINTER WIND 00:54 WAR SONG 00:55 THE MANGER 01:41 TRIO PER VIOLINO, CLARINETTO E PIANOFORTE (1996) CAPRICCIO.
