manufacturer, held a grand celebration for its new R&D center and office relocation in Seoul to strengthen its presence in South Korea. This is a strategic expansion of Bluestar Silicones’ global network. The new site, located in Pangyo Techno Valley, includes an R&D center and administrative office. The R&D center houses state-of-the-art lab facilities and a technical expertise center to support the sales of solutions for the release coating, textile coating and sealing & bonding markets, including innovative products for electronic and energy market management. The Hangzhou Water Treatment Technology Development Center has sold its first large seawater desalination

plant abroad that is as part of a project for a 15000-t/d steelworks in the Middle East, with the first phase of the 50000-t/a desalination project now at the design stage.The center already has several seawater desalination plants in operation, including a 100000-t/d plant in the city of Zhoushan, Zhejiang province and a 50000-t/d plant in the Caofeidian area of Tianjin. saw the commissioning of the world’s largest hel ium-cycl ing hydrogen liquefaction plant,on Aug 6,after just the first trial, where it produced liquid hydrogen at 99.999-percent purity, with the plant process parameters meeting design requirements. This

plant came from Air Liquide Group and has an hourly output of 1.5m³ liquid hydrogen, China’s highest output, making the plant the world’s largest. Hainan Aerospace is a supplier of new-generation rocket propellants and this hydrogen liquefaction plant means the company can provide liquid hydrogen for the Wenchang Rocket Launch Center.

T he Ti re & Rubber Corp

held a meeting to announce the beginning of i ts natural rubber benchmarking central procurement project, on Aug 11, whereby it plans to build a collaborative procurement site, increase central procurement p r a c t i c e s , a n d r e d u c e procurement costs to establish a natural rubber benchmarking central procurement site, before Dec 31, and central procurement for four subsidiaries involved with rubber.This project wil l be handled by the company’s production department using a dedicated rubber trade website to maximize i ts impact, cut procurement costs of natural rubber and increase central procurement practices to above 90 percent by the end of this year.

The Beijing Bluestar Cleaning

Co has completed cleaning c o l d e x c h a n g e e q u i p m e n t using a high-pressure water jet as part of a major overhaul at Changyi Petrochemical, in spite of inclement bad weather, high temperatures, a typhoon and rainstorm, and managed to clean 207 cold exchange unitson a 120,000-square–meter area in just over two weeks. The company used automated high-pressure cleaning equipment for this task, so the capacity is anywhere from six to ten times that of the old manual cleaning. The use of machinery in the cleaning process guarantees quality and the collection of sludge from the cleaning, and avoids secondary contamination of the equipment and ensures tidiness and cleanliness of the site.

The Guangming Institute’s

q u a l i t y s u p e r v i s i o n a n d inspec t ion cen te r recen t l y passed a lab evaluation of the Pepsi (China) Investment Co to become Pepsi’s second carbon dioxide detection lab in Asia. The Institute’s quality center has been recognized by the countrynational recognition as a specialized third-party gas quality inspection agency. Its research on test and detection technology for gas products allows it to issue permit for gaseous hazardous chemicals, product inspection and supervision, industrial ratings and quality dispute arbitration at the national and industrial level. The 252 gas inspection items that it is responsible for cover all gas products for which there are standards. In the past, as a chief part of the China Industrial Gas Indus t ry Assoccarbon dioxide committee, the center has done quality monitoring for l iquid carbon dioxide as used in Pepsi for dozens of Chinese suppliers.The center also keeps track of the latest development internationally in beverage brands, looks for ways to improvement, maintains its leadership and keeps pursuing excellence.

Haohua Junhua starts green productivity improvement program

When the first bag of

Ch inese-produced z inc h u m i c a c i d c o m p o u n d fertilizer (urea) rolled off the production line at Haohua Junhua recently it marked the opening of a green productivity improvement p r o g r a m t h a t H a o h u a Junhua and the Chinese A g r i c u l t u r a l S c i e n c e s Academy came up with and made Junhua China’s first value-added, compound fe r t i l i zer manufac turer. T h i s p a r t n e r s h i p i s expected to lead to R&D, m a s s p r o d u c t i o n , a n d t h e c o m m e r c i a l i z a t i o n of efficiency, high value-added z inc humic ac id fertilizer across the country. Currently, 10 million tons of urea nitrogen fertilizer (or more than 21 million tons of urea) are being lost in China through gas evaporation and runoff, which results in a huge waste of energy and resources and is a major threat to the environment. S o , t h e r e w o r k i n g o f conventional urea product utilization helps cut losses and costs, and improves productivity and protects the environment.

The 2nd Coal-turned-natural-gas Strategy (Keshiketeng) Forum,

which the China National Chemical Information Center (CNCIC)and the government of the city of Chifeng, Inner Mongolia sponsored, took place Aug 6 - 8, in Chifeng with organizational help from China Chemical Information Weekly. Participants took a close look at the latest regulations, policies, market prospects, and procurement bidding in China’s coal-turned-gas business, with more than 350 industry personnel taking part. They all agreed that China’s coal-turned-natural-gas industry has seen some achievements and that things are moving fast. The National Development and Reform Commission is calling for greater supplies of natural gas and more coal-turned-gas demonstration sites so that China’s coal-based-gas supply will reach 9 billion cubic meters by 2015 and 32 billion in 2017. Greater investment in coal-turned-gas development will bring technology, equipment and engineering services with tremendous opportunities.

When 12 Sichuan University seniors completed the formalities for

a one-year internship at Sichuan Bluestar Machinery, as part of its outstanding engineer education program, on July 15, it marked the official opening of the company’s national engineering practice & education center. And it marked the first step towards greater school-company cooperation to train innovation-minded, top-quality engineering personnel to meets the job market needs. Bluestar Machinery became the sponsor of the first national engineering practice education center, in October 2012, and the only State-level engineering practice education center in Deyang, the home of heavy-duty equipment for western China. The center plans to take in 8 - 10 students from Sichuan University’s school of manufacturing science and engineering for practice each year to improve exchanges and cooperation with the university. As a government-owned enterprise, Bluestar Machinery has been active in contributing to innovationsin education in China.

When his father suffered a serious accident 10 years ago, the tragedy toughened L i Junceng who had to learn quickly what it means to take care of others. He spends much of his time he lp ing h is fa ther w i th rehabilitation and exercise every day, while still doing his school assignments. The still light-hearted youngster is industrious, versatile and helpful and, in 2013, was recogn ized by S ichuan province as a youngster of virtue and filial piety. This was a part of the in-house employee activities and is intended to help get employees emotionally attached to the organization. The activity was the idea of seven employees of the French Bluestar subsidiary, referred

This 3-day event acquainted the youngsters with two dozen jobs through talks and visiting labs and production shops in a way that also increases their relationship with their parents.

When there was an explosion happened at the Kunshan Zhongrong Co, on Aug 2 ,caus ing ser ious injuries and casualties and Zhang Yan and her husband, both from the Nantong Xincheng Co, learned that

the local blood bank was running out of supplies, they wasted no time to donating blood at the local blood bank.Then, the afternoon of Aug 12, around 150 employees of the Nanjing Factory No.7425 rushed to donate blood for the victims of the accident. In a related action, the morning of Aug 15, over 200 managers and employees of the Zhonghao Chenguang Institute gave blood at the Chenguang Hospital for the earthquake victims of Yunnan province, an act of selflessness that reflects how ChemChina people care about people in need.

The Tianhua Institute received

a national invention patent for its anode protection equipment, remote monitoring, early warning and failure diagnosis system. This new system is an ideal combinat ion of in format ion technology and anode protection equipment for early warnings, remote monitoring and diagnosis and troubleshooting of anode protection equipment, which is

now widely used in the sulfuric acid industry. This has improved the wireless communications and data controller to make the person-machine interface more user-friendly by changing from a 2.5-in. button control panel to a 7-in. color touch screen, allowing full-screen display of all parameters of equipment and more intuitive, easy use, in addition to its ability to withstand harsh environmental conditions at the equipment site.

had 60 successful runs,showing a much longer service life than for its predecessor. It is now commercially available in small quantities and is expected to generate good returns for the company by the end of this year. The 25 Bluestar International Summer Camp came to a successful conclusionon Aug 9, with the little campers putting on a wonderful performance that included kungfu and other martial arts, comedy, dance, break dancing, chorus in Chinese, English and French, and some distinctive shows that surprised the teachers and parents in the audience. When ChemChina’s president spoke at the closing ceremony, he thanked the teachers for their painstaking effort and the children for their participation and encouraged the campers to work hard to be something when they grow up.

For the 25 Bluestar Summer Camp, Bluestar published a third volume of writings from the campers titled “Heart felt Messages under a Starry Sky” and handed out copies to campersand bluestar employees. ChemChina’s president,RenJianxin, wrote a preface to the book as an inspiring message for the little campers. The publication is a compilation of the writings of campers that dates back nearly 10 years. This third volume is special for this 25 summer camp and contains writings from 2011 to 2013, with special contributions from many former campers describing their wonderful moments at summer camp. We are familyThere was a media day, on July 31, for the 25 Bluestar International Summer Camp, with reporters from Xinhua News Agency, overseas editions of the People’s Daily, www.people.com.cn, and China Daily gathering at the camp site for Beijing, and with the company’s vice-president,GaoJianjun, and the head of the Beijing Division 1, Li Huili,on hand to talk about the history and mission of the summer camp, the results of this year’s camp, its theme, and the distribution of the many camps. Afterwards, some of the campers described what they had learned at camp, and foreign campers providing a performance of Chinese revolutionary songs for the audience.
