Tips for Summary Writing

1. Understand the requirement/s of the summary.2. Mark the lines where the summary starts and ends.3. Select relevant points according to question.4. Do not try to rephrase if you are not very good in English. It is better to select intelligently and join the sentences with connectors.

5. Memorize some synonyms as they are useful to replace single words. This will help you get more marks for language.

6. Refer to the summary requirement/s before finally copying out any sentence as content point. You are encouraged to question yourself accordingly based on the summary requirements such as Is this a danger he faced? or Is this how they solved their problems?. The questions are your guide in selecting the relevant and accurate content points.

7. Ignore irrelevant explanations and superfluous examples. Focus on the main ideas and those that support the theme of the passage. Generalize and convert lengthy sentences into shorter ones. Use one, or shorter words that can substitute the meaning of a long phrase in the passage. For example, "my mother, my father, my brother, and sister" can be rephrased as my family.8. Do not forget to write the number of words.
