Tips for Choosing the Right Mattress for You

Your bedroom is one of the most important rooms in your house. Often shielded from guests and company, our bedrooms are the best place in our homes to rest, relax and rejuvenate. Of all the bedroom furniture you use, your bed is arguably the only thing that really matters. And what is a great bed without a great mattress! Buying a mattress is a long term commitment. Not only are mattresses relatively expensive, once you buy it, you will be using it for at least 10 years! That’s why it is so make sure you choose the right mattress for you.

Here are five simple tips on how to buy the right mattress.

1. Determine what type of comfort you want from your mattress. There are four basic levels of comfort for a mattress:

Ultra Plush: A very soft feeling surface. Plush: Firmer than the ultra plush, but less firm than cushion firm. Cushion Firm: Firmer than an ultra plush, but softer than firm. Firm: The hardest of the comfort levels.

Test out the four different kinds of mattresses at your local furniture retailer. You want to make sure the level of comfort is right for you! Keep in mind that different comfort levels put different amounts of pressure on different parts of your body. Your mattress should give you a good night’s sleep, not wake you up every morning to aches and pains!

2. Know the type of mattress you want to buy. The three most common types of mattresses are:

Innerspring Memory Foam Latex Foam

These three mattress types are manufactured out of different materials and will feel differently when lying down. Make sure you give each a try to find the one your most comfortable with.

3. After making yourself familiar with the different comfort levels and mattress types, start comparing mattress specifications and features between different model ranges and manufacturers. Different manufacturers may produce a similar mattress at very different costs. If you don’t take the time to shop around you might miss out on a great deal.

4. Ask questions regarding the materials used in the manufacturing process of the mattresses you are considering. For example, if you are choosing between innerspring mattresses, ask

specific questions on what type of springs are used. You want a mattress that is going to last for years, not fall apart the first time the kids decide to use it as a trampoline.

5. Use all the information you have gathered and chose the right mattress retailer by comparing prices and offers. Don’t ever think you have to settle on your mattress! It’s going to be with you for a long time and you want to make sure it’s a relationship you’ll be happy with for years to come.
