Eight Centuries of Local Government in Co. Tipperary By Matthew Potter. Local government was introduced to Ireland by the Normans in the twelfth

century and has been integral to our public life for 800 years. In this lecture, Dr Matthew Potter will examine its role in County Tipperary, including such

institutions as grand juries, municipal corporations, boards of guardians and county councils, as well as lesser known aspects such as the liberty of the

Butlers, Earls of Ormonde and the County of Cross Tipperary.

Dr Matthew Potter works in Limerick City Archives. He is the author of eight books and numerous journal articles and has a particular interest in the

history of local government in Ireland. 19th November @7.30pm The Source Library, Thurles.

Tipperary Libraries with the help of North Tipperary Arts

Office helped the Children’s Book Festival 2013 to hoist the flag for children’s books in October, bringing a

programme of Irish authors and illustrators, designed to spark the imagination of young readers from toddlers to

teens! An amazing selection of award winning authors and

illustrators visited nine of our libraries in Tipperary Libraries that included Marita Conlon McKenna, Michael

Smith, Oisin McGann and Alan Nolan.

Along with storytelling, quizzes and competitions, October was a very busy and exciting month!
