I N T R O D U C T I O N : Edna Kane Williams | Senior Vice President | AARP Beyond Unconscious Bias: Why Power Matters for Building Inclusive Organizations
While unconscious bias training has been used in recent decades to overcome barriers to inclusion, it only tells part of the story. The missing piece—power—has long been studied by social psychologists. Perhaps it’s no surprise that because of power, there is a tendency for those holding it to rely more on stereotypes and to make quicker judgements on people or tasks. In this session, world-renowned psychology, neuroscience and behavior expert, Prof. Sukhvinder Obhi will explore:• Why unconscious bias training isn’t enough• How power dynamics permeate all relationships within organi-
zations and within society at large• Key social competencies that are required for diverse groups to
succeed• Ways to leverage power for inclusion, and the
associated benefits of diversityDr. Sukhvinder Obhi | Director & Principal Inves-tigator, Social Brain, Body & Action Lab | McMaster University

LUNCHEON KEYNOTECivility: A Diplomatic and Domestic Strategy
Today’s world is deeply troubling to many of us: the continuing threat of terrorism, an unstable Middle East, China’s increasing influence on Africa and the developing world, and climate change to name a
few. The lack of fundamental civility and basic etiquette is another unsettling development. An unhappy global populace through internet rage, airplane rage, political and national rage, seems to be the new norm. The hallmark of civility is respect for diversity and difference in the workplace, in the executive suite, in the boardroom and in society. True civility demands that we rise above the conscious and unconscious biases we all share. When we recognize our common humanity, when we listen with empathy, our generosity of spirit will bring positive results to our global marketplace. Learn how you can practice and implement civility in your professional and daily lives, and how civility is an attainable path by each individual to advance and improve the world.Harriet L. Elam-Thomas | Activist & former U.S. Ambassador to Senegal

ROUNDTABLE ACTION PLANNING SESSIONSBOLD Engagement: Go Where No One Has Gone - Inclusion, for Real!
When it comes to inclusion we have tried many things and quite often with lackluster results. What do we need to do differently to get a different outcome? Something that is sustainable, has
impact and will improve the lives of individuals and organiza-tions? Whether it is a small or big, it can create change in a lasting way. In small clusters, participants will engage is mean-ingful work that will result in a set of cutting edge recommenda-tions that individuals can utilize for themselves and take back to their organizations to create the change necessary for better workplace cultures for all. Inclusion….for real!!!!Audra Bohannon | Senior Partner, Workforce Performance, Inclusion & Diversity | Korn Ferry

3:15-3:45 PM CLOSING KEYNOTE & CONVERSATIONHow to Talk about Race, Religion, Politics & Other Polarizing Topics
Mary-Frances Winters will conclude the day exploring the dynamics of fear, fragility, and freedom in fostering an environment where Bold, Inclusive Conversations® can happen. She will
challenge the fear of the “other”, the fear of “messing up” when engaging in Bold, Inclusive Conversations®, and the fear of owning moments of fragility. She will invite us to acknowledge identity and power and to decenter the dominant narrative to create an environment where people experience freedom – free-dom to “uncover”, freedom to show up authentically in challeng-ing conversations, and the freedom to “call in”’ instead of “calling out” those who may be resistant to change.Mary - Frances Winters | President & CEO | The Winters Group
