T he objective of this research wasto rank the top schools in eachzone in Hyderabad. The study had
two major modules i.e.● Factual survey ● Perceptual rating survey
In the perceptual survey module, astructured questionnaire was adminis-tered with target respondents to arrive ata ranking of schools in Hyderabad. Thesample selection was done using purpo-sive sampling method though the samplewas spread out geographically to get bet-ter representation. The initial list ofschools had over 300 schools ofHyderabad, though each respondent wasasked to give ratings for only thoseschools that he/she isaware of and known. Eachperson could rate maxi-mum of 25 schools basedon their perception/ expe-rience to ensure that therewas neither interviewernor respondent fatigueand thus ensured betterquality data. Teacherswere asked to rate theschools (except the school that they wereassociate with) to avoid any biasedness.A sample survey of more than 700 wasconducted in (All 5 zones)
1. North zone2. West zone3. Central zone4. East zone5. South zoneThe category of respondents who were
intervened rated each of the schoolsbased on their experience with the cur-rent school and their perception with re-
spect to other schools. Only Parents of as-piring students (who are currentlysearching and aspiring to get admissionsfor their ward) evaluated the schoolsbased on their perception alone. The re-spondent categories included:
EXPERIENTIAL & PERCEPTUAL● School teachers● Alumni● Parents of existing students● Students
PERCEPTUAL● Parents of aspiring students
Extensive Fieldwork was conducted for5 weeks, starting from 15th Aug 2018
MODULE 1 - DESK RESEARCHA comprehensive list of schools was gen-erated with the help of secondarysources, magazines and other publica-tions. The various sources used for gener-ation of school list included:● CBSE approved list of schools● List of school from previous surveys● Newspapers/ parents', teachers' blogs
As it is not possible to get a completelyexhaustive list of schools and includethem in the survey, we had option ofadding any new school name in the sur-
vey form if any respondent mentionedany school name outside our list.Effectively, every school had a chance ofgetting covered in the survey if theirname was mentioned by the respondents.
MODULE 2 - DATA COLLECTIONFactual data collectionMore than 200 schools were sent the factu-al data questionnaire and then were rig-orously followed up telephonically toshare their factual data.
The factual data sheet focuses on thefollowing information areas:● General information of the School
◗ Establishment◗ Affiliation
◗ Total number of students◗ Board toppers● Infrastructure &facilities◗ Total campus area◗ Laboratories/ other facil-ities◗ Teaching methodology● Sports facility● Extra-curricularactivity
● Medical facility● Teachers facility
◗ Total number of teachers◗ Student teacher ratio◗ Experience of teachers
● Network● Exchange programs and global exposure● Disaster Management● Awards● Fee structure
PERCEPTUAL DATA COLLECTIONA perception questionnaire was admin-
istered with respondents. Respondentswere asked to give rating for only thoseschools which they were aware andknew about.
Respondents were provided a list ofparameters to evaluate the schools &rate on a scale of 1-10 where 1 meantpoor & 10 meant excellent. The list ofparameters covered in the survey wasarrived at based on past surveys as wellas from secondary sources. As men-tioned the 5 different stakeholders weretaken into consideration for the percep-tual survey viz. Teachers, Alumni,Parents of aspiring students, Parents ofexisting students & Students.
The questionnaire was so designedthat both experiential & perceptualtarget respondents could be exposedto the same set of parameters - this en-sured that the scores of differentstakeholders could be correlated andcollated to arrive at a single finalscore.
MODULE 3 - ANALYSIS OF DATA& FINAL RANKINGA robust approach is followed to arrive atthe final rankings. The step by stepprocess is given below:
Perceptual Score● Ratings on various parameters for each
school● Calculating importance of various pa-
rameters by interacting with key stake-holders the teachers and parents to ar-rive at weights for each parameter
● Calculation of raw scores and weightedscores for each parameter
● Calculation of overall score for eachschool using importance weightages.
Factual Score● The information collected correspon-
ding to similar parameters as in theperceptual survey
● A detailed scoring system has been de-veloped for each parameter
● After assigning scores to each parame-ter, raw scores are calculated
● The raw scores are weighted by theirimportance to arrive at weighted scores
● The final score for a school are aweighted average of Perception Scoreand Factual Score - equal weight agegiven to both
CATEGORIES IN FINAL RANKINGThere are 4 broad categories of schoolsshown in the ranking viz;● International (Offer International
Curriculums)● National (Offer National Curriculums)● Emerging School (was established in
2014 or later)● Residential School
SOME CAVEATS/ASSUMPTIONS:Any school who communicated expressly(via written mail) that they did not wishto participate in the survey was excludedfrom the survey
