From the Editor

At the end of last year, I had a productive exchange with about 50 sales, marketing and HR executives from the DGC and Delta (Shanghai) at the Shanghai Operations Center. I communicated the development of Delta brand and obtained valuable feedbacks. The occasion was part of the "Brand Training Course" run by the Brand Management Office over the past few months. After launching it in Shanghai, we continued in Northeast Asia, EMEA, Americas, China, India and Thailand to train the seed trainers at the regions, preparing for a broad brand promotion at the next stage. Just as CEO Ping Cheng said, "Every employee could be the best spokesperson for the Delta brand." In the future, with the help of the online training/education platform and the regional seed trainers, we will empower all Delta employees to improve our brand image and enhance brand awareness using the corporate publicity resources available.

At the training course, employees of Delta India shared a few examples of recent successes. With Delta's display and telecom power integrated solutions, Delta India provided monitoring solutions for the largest power plant in India. Also, they built a real-time monitoring and energy management solution to cope with the increasing number of ATMs for the local banks. In the "Special Report", we focus on the recent Delta achievements in India.

A globalization strategy has been the main goal of Delta in the past couple of years. Not only do BUs and BGs seek local business development, the corporate headquarter also aims to build a comprehensive worldwide organizational framework to achieve resource integration. In Q2, the Corp. HR will accomplish an unprecedented achievement to integrate Delta's entire global grading system. Although this is a tough challenge, the Chief HR Officer Ms. Yiching Chang and her team made it happen in less than a year thanks to her emphasis on systematic management, efficiency, and quality. We have a complete report on this in the "Brand People" of the current issue.

In July last year, Corporate Communications launched the brand new corporate website. The framework and content featuring three business domains and seven solutions is boost to Delta's external communication. Collaborating with the EMEA and our China teams, in April, the Corporate Communications completed the migration and integration of external website resources. The immediate group information displayed on these sites helps the realization of One Delta at the region level. In the current Brand News, we will share with you the brand new contents of these two regional websites.

To celebrate Earth Day with other parts of the world, employees in China initiated a series of energy saving activities. DGC organized nearly 3,000 distributors to join the "energy saving" event in 48 sales locations. More than 200 employees and their families from WJ Plant participated in the mountain cleanup and beach cleanup activities. The energy education volunteers from Shanghai Operations Center took elementary school students to harvest vegetable grown in the Delta plant factory. There are more wonderful stories. Stay tuned with "Delta Green Life".

Timely response and seamless teamwork create a unique Delta brand experienceSuccess cases by Delta India team< Text by Brand Management Office >

Delta's telecom power systems and display & visualization services have not only garnered a good reputation in India for a long time but also established a firm foundation for Delta's long term development in India. For this issue's special report, we will introduce how the team in India applied integrated technology and professional service to become solution providers and develop immense business opportunities through two recent success cases.

Integrated solutions and teamwork - Delta's "ProTecht" for ATM real-time monitoring and energy saving

Intrusion, theft and sabotage of ATM kiosks occurs frequently in Indian city suburbs or rural areas with inadequately developed infrastructure, and incidents where consumer attacks while using the ATM are also often reported. Despite guards stationed at various ATM locations, three shifts are needed daily, in turn incurring immense cost pressure to police authorities and management companies.

Mphasis is a HP subsidiary that focuses on payment management services in India. Its primary service is to facilitate various banks in India to establish ATM kiosk site, including infrastructure, ATM kiosk installation, power systems, monitoring systems, safety protection and cash replenishment etc. The firm has an annual turnover of US$1 billion. However, the loss of Mphasis ATMs has increased greatly every year, from US$1.7 million in 2010 to more than US$7 million in 2013.

Delta has collaborated with Mphasis since 2013, with services including UPS and battery accessories. In June last year, during a visit by the Delta Electronics India's general manager, Dalip Sharma, the client expressed a high level of interest about the monitoring system and site management system created for telecom operators by Delta. Furthermore, the client also asked Mr. Sharma to devise solutions for lowering the risk and management cost at ATM locations.

From products to solutions - Initiating cross-team collaboration

Mr. Sharma immediately recognized the tremendous potential of this opportunity. "At the time, Delta's team did not have any off-the-shelf solutions available. However, we were in control of certain applied technologies, therefore we only needed to integrate related terminal devices and update the software platform." Consequently, Mr. Sharma gathered 13 colleagues from Delta Electronics India's MCISBU and TPSBU engineering teams, reviewed all existing technologies and tried to further understand the client's requirements and technical specifications. Cross-departmental collaboration allowed the stimulation of additional possibilities through different technical

competencies, and Mr. Sharma presented our first solution in just three months by conducting a "very cool" demonstration for Mphasis. "Why do I describe the demonstration as very cool? Because we installed monitoring equipment at five downtown ATM locations, and all we brought to the client side was a notebook computer to demonstrate the entire monitoring solution." Mr. Sharma recalled the memorable presentation.

At the time, Mphasis was immensely impressed with Delta's software and hardware integration capabilities, and it was even more surprised that Delta's India team managed to propose implementable, total solutions within such a short space of time. However, two other competitors, including Schneider Electric have also learnt about the opportunity and are already eagerly preparing their proposals. Colleagues from Delta's project team immediately invested more time to perform system integration and optimization. "Our team worked long hours day and night to buy time; they even volunteered to work during the weekends and holidays in the hope of presenting the best solution to our client." Mr. Sharma is deeply proud of the team. "Thanks to our colleagues' endeavors, our progress was way ahead of our competitors. For instance, we incorporated an image analytics function into the software platform, so if anyone approaches the ATM location holding a hammer-like object, the image analytics system will immediately identify him and send out an alert to the local police authorities and Mphasis control center. At the same time, Delta's existing power management solution effectively minimizes energy consumption at the ATM locations through functions such as standby mode, battery management, light sensor etc. These are something that our competitors are unable to provide."

India team - Pioneer of solution business

Comprehensive solution planning and technology integration ability have led Mphasis to select Delta as its partner. At the same time, it has offered Delta a three-year exclusive partnership contract. In mid May, Delta Electronics India and Mphasis co-organized new product launch in Mumbai.

Through Mphasis' extensive sales network, the India team is able to propagate the solution to banks throughout the country and it has been given an opportunity to be listed on tier one Indian banks' supplier list. At the same time, the India team also developed a brand new business model: collecting monthly location service fees by providing a real-time monitoring service at ATM locations. Mr. Sharma further indicated that, in light of India's economic growth strength and the vast demand for cash transactions, the service revenue is expected to grow exponentially in the future years to come. This year, 1,300 ATM locations are expected to adopt Delta's solution, and the number is forecasted to rise to 5,000 by 2015. In the future, we even consider creating a new financial industry services LOB that is focused on application development in the financial industry.

Long-term development and accumulation - NTPC video wall integration case

Approximately 14 years ago, a video wall was still a highly expensive and cutting-edge system, as India's largest national power plant, National Thermal Power Solution Ltd. (NTPC) tried to introduce a video wall into its control center as part of the power plant monitoring solution. "NTPC has always been the pioneer and opinion leader in the Indian power generation industry," Hemant Agarwal, senior director of the Indian video integration team, introduced the local industry condition to the editorial department. "When NTPC employs a specific management system, competitors will follow suit unconditionally. Consequently, for a long time, NTPC has always been our important client."

Over the past several years, the video wall integration team in India has maintained constant contact with NTPC, with the first project dating back to five years ago. The project only involved collaboration with individual power plants. However, Delta's capability and accumulation of reputation over the long run have successfully earned the trust of NTPC to assist establishing its headquarters video wall during the beginning of this year.

Delta provides video wall integrated solution for NTPC

The India team adopts the ICON Pro system developed in-house for NTPC’s needs

When talking about the successful project, Mr. Sharma could not mask his excitement. "We stood out from numerous competitors, even broke the long-term collaboration between NTPC and Barco to establish the integrated video wall system at the Special Analytic and Computational Services (SACS) of NTPC headquarters. The center is also the core operational unit of NTPC in India, which is able to remotely monitor power plants located in various regions of the country. For the Delta team in India, this is a major milestone in terms of business development.”

Understand client needs and propose appropriate solutions

Client needs originate from the real-time monitoring of the entire power grid and 30~40 power plants to ensure their operational safety as well as to make timely adjustments to power transmission and distribution, thereby providing NTPC's team with flexible management capability. The immense computational power of Delta's platform enables display of the power plant's operating status in real time. Additionally, Delta's high precision, high quality installation was not delayed by the incompletion of the power plant infrastructure, and the entire project was completed in just one month. The feat was highly commended by NTPC. Mr. Agarwal explained further "After the project was completed, NTPC presented Delta with a more challenging new demand-to update the system software in order to improve compatibility. Although the task was not included in the project, in order to offer our client with holistic solutions, we immediately mobilized several R&D colleagues in India for support, and the entire software was updated in just two weeks."

After updating the system software, NTPC was so impressed with Delta Electronics India team's performance that it immediately ordered another system to be installed in the Mumbai control center. However, due to the limited space of Mumbai control center, Delta Electronics India team recommended replacing DLP screens with LED screens, and the client was deeply impressed with Delta's comprehensive product lineup.

Understand market needs and introduce customization services

On top of the original DVCS video control system, the India team further adopted the Windows based, industrial-grade ICON Pro system developed in-house to cater for the client's needs. "DVCS/MiniCon is an embedded operating system, although it has a high level of expandability and versatility within a LAN, considering that many signals of NTPC must pass through its existing network structure, we chose to use ICON Pro in order to achieve a higher degree of integration and compatibility for the client's existing operating environment," explained Mr. Agarwal.

However, what is the most difficult aspect of this project? "None!" said Mr. Agarwal confidently. "Because Delta has provided comprehensive, high quality products, and the professional team's implementation skills have received high levels of recognition. Although long-term competitors Barco and Planar are also in the process of presenting their proposals, with our successful experience in collaborating with various NTPC power plants, we are more proactive in responding to the needs of the client than our competitors, including solutions, project implementation and after-sales service. As a result, we are able to take the partnership to the next level and successfully complete each project.

Maintaining a positive attitude to grasp potential business opportunities

During the interview process, laughter of joy was constantly heard from the India team. Despite difficult demands from the client and other project challenges, they were always full of optimism. "Rather than spending time complaining about the problem, why not actively gather available resources and resolve the problem." This is Mr. Sharma's management philosophy, he encourages the India team to strive forward with such a mentality, and it has become the greatest driving force behind Delta's developments in India.

The China Datacenter Industry Conference 2014, a primary event in the data center industry, was held on March 27, 2014 in Beijing, China with over 1,000 participants. As a world-leading datacenter solution provider, Delta introduced its datacenter solutions for the cloud computing era at the event. Moreover, Delta's InfraSuite Datacenter Solution won the award for the 2013-2014 Outstanding Product and Solution for Datacenters.

In response to the consolidation, convenience, high performance and high availability of the new generation of cloud datacenters, Delta has chosen the reliable and energy-efficient Delta isolated dual-bus power supply solution. In addition to meeting the highest Tier 4 ANSI-TIA-942-2005 standard for datacenters, long-term operation costs have also been effectively reduced. Delta's datacenter solutions further enhance the efficiency of the power supply system by choosing energy-efficient components, effective harmonic control, and active energy management. In the design of cooling for cloud computing datacenters, Delta's solutions apply an advanced precision cooling system, which precisely controls temperature and humidity to maintain optimal conditions in datacenters and reduce energy costs by over 25%.

Unlike traditional datacenters that only monitor the power and environment, Delta's InfraSuite Datacenter Solution is capable of dynamic energy management. By monitoring the PUE data displayed in each period, it is possible to understand the energy consumption of the devices in datacenters and achieve real-time monitoring and analysis of PUE. A datacenter that Delta helped set up in the United States for a well-known social network, the energy efficiency was improved by 38% and construction costs reduced by 24% after the deployment of Delta's datacenter solution.

With the rapid development of information technology, the use of big data and cloud computing is bringing an explosive growth of data storage capacity requirements, and upgrading datacenters to meet their business needs has become an urgent issue for enterprises. Delta held the "2014 Delta Datacenter Elite Forum" in April in Taipei. Chairman Mr. Yancey Hai and general manager of MCIS Dr. Charles Tsai both attended to meet with nearly 300 industry professionals. Mr. Hai shared that after one year of implementation of the InfraSuite Datacenter Solution, the PUE of Delta's Shanghai Operations Center has reached 1.43-much better than the industry average. DGC passes ISO14000 & OHSAS18000 external certification< Text by Marketing Communication Department/ DGC >

As market competition intensifies, the importance of the ISO14000 environment management system and the OHSAS18000 occupational health and safety management system has been increasing in recent years, because these systems directly affect corporate development. The DGC has recently passed both ISO14000 and OHSAS18000 certification.

At the end of March, TÜV NORD, a German internal certification agency, conducted the supplier evaluation for ISO14000 and OHSAS18000 certification at the DGC. Senior management including Charles Chen, the CHO of Delta China Region, DGC's CTO Paul Ai, and Logistic Division Manager Tyler Tsou received them enthusiastically.

After the four-day tense evaluation, the DGC smoothly passed the certification with the concerted effort of all employees. As "design, development, and after service" do not really involve ISO14000 and OHSAS18000 systems, the promotion team needed to find effective management methods with employees from the technical department. After many discussions, they established a brand new design and development review plan which covers the three major product ranges covered in the certificate. In the evaluation conclusions, TÜV NORD expressed special praise for the design and development review process.

Mr. Charles Chen emphasizes that fulfilling social responsibility in the environment and occupational health and safety is the only way to raise management standards and enhance integrated competitiveness

Establishing a global HR management system, and strengthening organizational capacityAn interview with Yiching Chang, Delta's Chief HR Officer < Text by Branding Management Office >

At a Strategy Meeting last July, the newly-appointed Chief HR Officer, Ms. Yiching Chang, set herself a new KPI, which was to integrate a global grading system within the Delta group. This challenge was nearly met at the end of the second quarter of the first year by Chang and her HR team. The outstanding results signify Delta's global human capital planning has reached a new milestone.

Having worked as a regional HR manager, organizational strategy HR manager and now the Head of HR at Delta Headquarters, Chang holds high hopes for her HR team. The "Brand People" section in this issue reveals her management philosophy and strategic goals.

Establish an identity and create a brand for HR

"I mentioned 10 years ago that 'HR management should not be like ODM'." As the Chief HR Officer at Delta, Yiching Chang's words clearly demonstrate how she thinks HR should be managed. With a firm attitude, she continues, "HR should be equipped with professional skills. It should also meet demands made by those who are not customers. Moreover, it should be managed like a branded business. It should be able to predict organizational needs over time and should be able to develop satisfactory designs and specifications before they go and see their colleagues and sell ideas. Meanwhile, I hope HR can provide more than one product or module. Instead, it should be able to assist the development of an HR system and provide solutions."

HR needs to ensure both the quantity and quality of staff. From recruitment, in-job training and organizational performance, every aspect within a business involves HR. If a healthy HR system is not established, it is difficult to manage staff, not to mention operating a business on a global scale. From her past HR experience within the Delta Group, Chang has realized that business operation management models can be applicable to HR operations. "I have a custom-made HR operating calendar." With several calendars pinned up next to her desk, ranging from weekly, monthly and yearly ones, Yiching Chang is not slacking off on her management duties at all. "I go over all tasks planned for the whole year, prepare for them well in advance and ensure they are done gradually, step by step. I have weekly meetings with HR managers who are in different countries, to make sure HR fulfils its role."

Chang's management skills can be seen in HR's process management

"I require HR to establish a lead time and a delivery time. Such statistical and analytical methods increase overall efficiency. Hiring managers are needed to ensure each step in the process is completed. If it takes too long to complete a step, other companies may attract quality employees. Just as in what you would do in process management, specifications should be confirmed first, and then come the resumes and your decisions on which candidates are shortlisted. If the resume hit-rate is too low, this means the prescribed specifications may have not been precise enough. If this is the case, HR must communicate with hiring managers and modify the specifications."

Chang encourages the team to speak to hiring managers in the language the hiring managers use themselves. In addition, Chang requests that the HR team complete tasks with SIPOC. "In order to reduce the amount of 'exception handling', I have to establish a system, a management system, before I can ensure satisfactory organizational performance."

Establish a basic structure and globalize HR

In the past, regional Delta branches tended to operate individually (Silo), due to the barriers of time zones and physical space. A lot of process management and regional data were not synchronized. As a result, the HR team hopes to gradually integrate basic HR structure globally within the next two years so that a mutually agreed language can be used and knowledge can be shared in real-time How to strike a balance between corporate principles and local practice will be crucial to whether globalization can be successful.

"The various mind-sets of the different regions are certainly the biggest obstacles." As Yiching Chang talked about the global grading system nearly in place, she elaborated, "Here is one thing that is very basic, but very complicated and it must be done when it comes to globalizing HR services. Some companies outsource consultants, but they have to terminate the contracts half way because of internal change resistance. At Delta, there is a dedicated team to complete this task, and I am glad that we are able to do it! Now that a standard organizational structure is in place, there will be a standardized personnel scale to measure tasks such as appointing new employees, in-job training, salary scales and performance evaluations."

Apart from the standardized personnel scale, the Human Resource Information System (HRIS) will be integrated with the global basic module by early next year. It will be the One Delta HR System from that point onwards. With these two important systems in place, the Delta Group will find it easier to distribute its resources globally and adjust them between regions.

"Assuming salary scales and job duties remain the same, cost will always be the most influential factor in global human resource planning, because this affects local resource distribution. Additionally, we encourage hiring managers to appoint someone who is already in the Group, no matter if he or she is from a different country or region. This would be beneficial to the existing staff at Delta. Relevant measures and solutions will soon be established by the HR team."

"Currently there are 400 colleagues working for Delta's HR team globally. The HR team at headquarters is the designer." Chang explains, "Establishing a system is very important. I hope the system will help organizational performance. I have

to communicate with regional HR teams constantly to confirm the system works well for everyone. With a good system on hand, it is then possible to provide a good solution and increase the value for your organization."

Make good use of Delta and offer training for leaders

One of the crucial elements to strengthen organizational performance is to offer training opportunities for leaders.

With the strategic goals Delta has established for the next 5 to 10 years, I hope the organization can prepare future leaders with HR's personnel development system, so that they can meet the future needs and deal with M&A requests. Additionally, because Delta is still expanding globally, leaders suitable for international settings are needed. These are the 2 focuses this year, regarding personnel development.

Yiching Chang hopes to offer the new generation training opportunities for Delta. She encourages colleagues to make good use of Delta's advantages and pursue further development.

"First, Delta offers a very good learning environment. Most of our customers are first-tier. Employees are able to learn a lot by communicating with customers directly. Second, we offer an international setting and there are a lot of possibilities open for employees. Third, Delta's salary scale is very competitive compared to other businesses. With these advantages clarified, I believe Delta's employees will benefit from these further development opportunities."

Be efficient and perform better

Having heard how Chang describes the job duties and future plans for HR, it seems much of her experience comes from her understanding of Delta. In the past, she was a regional HR leader and did not establish many significant systems. The most important role for HR then was to process salary authorization. She did everything herself, from designing to executing. This attitude has been with her since. The organizational management theories, statistical tools and analytical skills she came across while taking a master's degree course abroad have proved to be beneficial. "It is important to be able to put theories into practice when it comes to HR work. I also often use numeric information to communicate with colleagues regarding the flow of talent, recruitment efficiency analysis, and its results. Moreover, organizations function more effectively when a systematic management is in place."

"In my opinion, efficiency and effectiveness are the two most important things in management. A management system with those two things will increase output and ensure outcomes. This is something different from what was focused on in the past, i.e. input. This is what I follow when leading a HR team."

Unlike what other fellow HR employees outside her company do, Yiching Chang internalizes her work experience, custom-makes an HR system for Delta and assists the company to expand globally. She pursues quality and efficiency, hoping to improve the HR team, grow with the team, and continue developing HR as a branded business!

Energy opportunities: More than you can think of< Text by Wim Chang/ Delta Electronics Foundation >

After receiving a notice about a temperature fall in the next day, mechanical and electrical engineers operating the building air-conditioning system reduced the ice-making capacity of the chilling system in the evening before going home, in order to reduce the electricity consumption of the building's air-conditioning system. After receiving a text reminding them their TV at home in standby mode may be wasting electricity, employees working overtime after dinner turn off the standby power supply of all appliances in the TV cabinet, connected to a smart socket with the APP on their smartphone.

These energy-saving scenarios resembling government publicity materials are the green opportunities the private sector has targeted. Besides emphasizing the importance of energy saving in a great number of articles in the Climate Change 2014: Mitigation of Climate Change announced by the International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC) this April, scientists pointed out many buildings have 90% potential for emission reduction and even made viable recommendations for doing so, including government legislation, energy consumption disclosures, direct market intervention, and economic measures. During 2010-11, the elevation of the energy saving requirements for green buildings has reduced a total of 45 million metric tons of carbon dioxide in Europe, with a cost of about US$65/metric ton.

With reference to past experience of the UK, encouraging consumers to save energy through publicity campaigns can save 0.5% of household electricity consumption a year, on average. This is the equivalent to about 500,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide, with a cost of about US$8/metric ton. Such a way also works in developing countries. Based on the 2005 statistics of Brazil, the rise of environmental awareness alone reduced about 12 million metric tons of carbon dioxide in that year.

High energy saving consensus but conservative potential estimation

In the case of Taiwan, however, energy saving was the ultimate consensus between the government and representatives of the public in all three "National Energy Conferences" held in 1998, 2005, and 2009 respectively. However, when government think tanks calculated energy saving potential, they usually suggested the replacement of all mercury streetlamps or encouraged citizens to use energy-efficient appliances. In fact, many energy saving technologies on the market are not considered by the government. Take elevator electricity regeneration for example, many elevator suppliers have similar technology; by integrating this with a permanent-magnet synchronous motor (PMSM), as much as 45-50% energy can be saved. In Taiwan no specific energy consumption standards have been set for elevators. Besides energy saving, there is no other incentive for installing the elevator electricity regeneration device. When more than 50% of Taiwan citizens do not agree with the increase of electricity bills, if the initial cost is very high, even it does not take long for to the cost break even, market acceptance will be very slow, and no one will consider this as a potential energy saving solution for the future.

Similarly, users will enjoy a discount from electricity rate only when they re-sell to the grid electricity generated from a rooftop PV system. Therefore, there is no incentive for self-use or storage. In reality, besides contributing to grid stability, the latter can relieve the pressure of electricity supply during the peak hours in summer afternoons. In addition, a smart meter is currently used only to replace manual meter reading. As the meter cost is higher than the manual meter reading, people complain, yet they ask the government to plan a budget to support meter replacement. However, the "smart socket" has been launched and suppliers are promoting it at US$10 a year

for rental. The smart socket enables users to control the standby time of major appliances at home from a smartphone. It is estimated that by controlling the standby time of just the TV cabinet and drinking water purifier alone, can reduce electricity bills by at least US$40 a year.

I t addi t ion, pr ivate sector meteorology companies provide custom forecast services for ice storage air condit ioning users to determine the ice-making capacity one night before to reduce energy waste and ensure real-time optimal coordination with the outdoor temperature of the refrigeration system of general central air conditioning systems.

Green competitions among cities: Benefits bring space for creativity

In Taiwan, building renovation for ecology, energy saving, waste reduction and health (EEWH) is another big opportunity. This includes painting the roof white, paving insulating bricks on the roof, using window film, or taking future energy consumption into account in interior design. So far, there is neither supervision nor a management mechanism governing building energy consumption standards, except for government agencies. As a result, building energy reduction is still a matter of personal conduct. Even worse, instead of encouraging people to install sun shade equipment on exterior walls, people may break current laws, if they do so.

However, some local governments have introduced new control measures. For example, the New Taipei City Government began to consider raising the insulation standard of exterior walls in old building facelift projects to reduce usage time of air-conditioners by residents. The Tainan City Government has loosened building height regulations by another 4.5m and deregulated the application for a miscellaneous permit within the range of 3meters, for buildings with a PV panel. The Kaohsiung City Government has changed the law to allow rooftop illegal buildings to become legal commercial solar PV panel shelves after their façades are removed. Many banks are glad to offer green loans in southern Taiwan.

Facing the threat of electricity shortage, more innovative means to calculate electricity bills may be what is needed. For example, the cost for a power company to generate electricity at peak hours is very high, in addition to the summer rates, when power consumption at peak hours exceeds a certain standard, can any mechanisms be activated to "encourage" energy saving? Like the case of "smart socket" suppliers, there is always a way out in nature.

Energy conservation trend transforms building air conditioning marketIn China's 12th Five-year Plan, the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development of China has selected some 40 cities as key cities to undertake public energy-saving reforms. In 2015, the market size of construction for energy conservation purposes is estimated at RMB 100 billion (about US$15 billion), and the market size of air conditioners for residential buildings is estimated at RMB 30 billion (about US$4.5 billion).

Helped by strong demand for luxury residences and government projects, Chinese building air conditioning market is booming; air conditioning contributes to the highest percentage of building energy consumption, thus solutions to manage the issue matter. Between 2012 and 2020, demand for energy-efficient air conditioning products should continue to increase. Accompanying this trend, air conditioner manufacturers have begun to focus on more environmentally-friendly products. Following behind Japanese manufacturers that entered the Chinese market some 20 years ago and local manufacturers such as Gree, Midea, and Haier, more U.S. manufacturers have grasped this trend to enter China market.

Big data predictive functions to help identify and deliver opportunities in the automotive industryBoth the North American and European automotive industries are on the cusp of change, with big data and connected services combining to foster the development of diverse mobility integration business models. Frost & Sullivan expects 60 percent of original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) to devise big data strategies and offerings in the next two years, prompted by the proliferation of high-bandwidth, embedded connectivity technologies, such as long term evolution (LTE). OEMs' strategies could involve strengthening in-house capabilities or outsourcing the job to big data experts. The focus is on standing out from the competition based on brand awareness, digital engagement of customers, and response time.

New analysis from Frost & Sullivan finds that by 2020 approximately 35 million vehicles in North America and Europe will make relevant data sets available for OEMs to assimilate and convert into actionable insights. Around post-2015 or 2016, the industry is expected to witness the emergence of integrated service providers with expertise in end-to-end services across the automotive value chain, from consulting to implementation.

Proactive monitoring will not only enable the OEM to collect information regarding the user's needs, but also create an

opportunity to analyze and collate data on vehicle performance. Furthermore, having access to data regarding the vehicle's performance and issues before it reaches the service center, will also help dealers better manage their inventory. OEMs can also leverage big data to offer value-added services with facilities to integrate navigation and parking slots/reservations, electric vehicle (EV) charging spots and car sharing.

Industrial automation equipment -Valve and Actuator The global industrial valves and actuators market is growing, and is forecasted to have a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 5.9% between 2013 and 2018.The growth comes from the Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) sector in Australia, the shale gas boom in the United States and the oil and gas sector in emerging countries.

Incredible India - From world heritage to diamond rating green building< Text by Johnny Shih/ Corporate Communications >

Speaking of India, the associations that come to mind include math, spices, cricket and astonishing historic monuments. While traveling to India for business, several colleagues from Taiwan upheld the spirit of low-carbon traveling by sharing a car to the World Heritage site, the Taj Mahal during their weekend spare time. The site is approximately 4 hours drive away from New Delhi.

A teardrop on the Face of Eternity - Marvel of 17th century architecture

Indian poet Tagore once praised Taj Mahal as "A Teardrop on the Face of Eternity". The over 50m tall, perfectly symmetrical architecture was constructed from white marble by the Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his wife, Mumtaz Mahal. The mausoleum was completed in 1654 and listed as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1983.

Walking past long queues of people, we entered through the red gate and were immediately greeted by two rows of cypress trees and the marble water pond in the center. At the end of the pond is the mausoleum with two empty sarcophaguses, and Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan and Mumtaz Mahal are buried in the crypt under sarcophaguses. The dome of Taj Mahal is perfectly symmetrical, and once can experience the powerful stereoscopic echo inside the mausoleum, which is crafted from the most luxurious pure white marble. At the time, Mughal emperor Shah Jahan mobilized over 10,000 artisans to inlay precious and semiprecious stones into the white marble using their exquisite craftsmanship. The building materials and gemstones for the construction of Taj Mahal were gathered and delivered from India and all over Asia by elephants or manual labor. For instance, sapphires were sourced from Sri Lanka and rubies from Iran etc. At all four corners of the mausoleum are four 40m tall towers, each is tilted outward at an angle of 12 degrees to ensure that the towers will collapse outwardly without crushing the mausoleum during an earthquake.

Taj Mahal emanates distinct appearances during the day and at night. In the morning, it radiates a dazzling golden color, while at noon, it becomes translucent white; illuminated by the setting sun, it changes into a light red color and silvery white with a touch of fluorescent blue under the moonlight, making you feel like being in a fairyland. Both two of my colleagues and I believe that despite the long journey, we must visit the Taj Mahal under the moonlight if we get the opportunity next time.

A building of sustainable design - Wisdom of 21st century architecture

As a matter of fact, 200km away from Taj Mahal in Gurgaon, there is an equally stunning piece of architecture; although not as spectacular, its symbiotic concept exhibits the sustainable intelligence of modern architecture. Delta's Gurgaon building is a LEED-India certified diamond rating green building; from site selection, construction, management to waste disposal, environmental and energy-saving designs have been ingeniously applied to every process, resulting in 52% energy savings over traditional office buildings in 2013.

Thanks to ample sunlight in northern India, through designs such as building orientation, window position and central skylight, the majority of the interior lighting comes from natural light. At the same time, Low E-glass in double glazing also provides outstanding shading coefficient and effectively keeps out exterior heat. Gurgaon building also provides a healthy office environment for the employees, because all interior design materials are low VOC (Volatile organic compound) emission materials, and over 15% construction materials are made from recycled materials. The high-efficiency air conditioning solution employs variable frequency control system to save power consumption and maintain an interior CO2 level below 520PPM, therefore even if people are engaged in a meeting the whole day in the conference room, they will not feel drowsy due to poor air quality.

Over 60% of Delta Gurgaon Building is covered by greenery, and indigenous plants are even cultivated on the roof. The green spaces not only act as habitats for insects and small animals but also reduce the heat island effect and help the soil absorb water. More surprisingly, underneath the luxuriant garden is a rainwater harvesting system, where recycled rainwater is used for irrigation and washing. In addition, an anaerobic waste water treatment system has been installed in one corner of the garden to help the entire office achieve zero waste water discharge.

Sustainability ensures eternity

Since antiquity, people have always pursued eternity. The beauty of Taj Mahal's perfect symmetry and lucid white marbles has broken the shackles of time and brought awe-inspiring sentiments for mankind. Today, people are faced with the grave challenge of climate change, and a new understanding is needed for eternity. We need to use natural resources intelligently and learn how to prosper symbiotically with nature, in turn ensuring the sustainable development of civilization and eternity.

In support of Earth Day - Delta China launches environmental protection and energy conservation event series< Text by Sophia Zhou/ Delta Shanghai >

In order to show support for Earth Day on April 22, colleagues from the China Region led by example by keeping good habits to ensure energy and water conservation. Moreover, popular science and energy education activities such as energy-saving trivia contests are organized with the purpose of popularizing environmental knowledge by joining with distributors and schools. At the same time, the "Delta Loves Earth-Energy Education" event is also constantly being expanded to influence more than 50,000 households across the Taiwan Strait.

During the April "Environmental Month" event in the WJ plant, the employees launched "Community Water-saving Contest and Drive Your Car One Less Day Each Week" themed activity to promote energy conservation among staff. At the Wuhu plant, more than 200 colleagues from the company environmental club, cycling club, charity club and their families held mountain cleaning and beach cleaning activities at the Tianmen Mountain Scenic Area.

DGC, which operates 48 business locations nationwide, also urged employees and distributors to join the "Energy-saving Trivial Contest" through the company's signage, official website, EDM and WeChat. Within nine short days, roughly 2,741 distributors, clients and employees actively participated in the contest, and they made a commitment to save 263,060KWH of electricity.

At the Shanghai Operations Center, "Delta Loves Earth-Energy Education" volunteers welcomed students from the Pudong New District Second Central Elementary School on Earth Day. Inside the LEED-certified green building, they embarked on an interactive, interesting energy conservation and popular environmental science event. Delta Electronics Foundation collaborates with National Museum of Natural Science to create mobile green campus< Text by Pamela Huang/ Delta Electronics Foundation >

"We also want to see Namasia Ming Chuan Elementary School!" Faced with enthusiastic demand from Delta colleagues, the Delta Electronics Foundation (DEF) is pleased to inform everyone that there is no need to travel long distances and risk driving on the poorly maintained industrial roads to see the most eco-friendly elementary school in Taiwan!

In order to let students throughout Taiwan become acquainted with the green campus, starting from February, DEF has collaborated with National Museum of Natural Science (NMNS) to launch the "Sunshine Mobile Elementary School" roving exhibition truck by gathering various successful Delta energy education base projects. The exhibition features Namasia Ming Chuan Elementary School-which was completely destroyed by floodwaters during Typhoon Morakot disaster-as the representative case study; the school's "diamond-rated" green building characteristics as well as functions such as education, environmental protection, disaster prevention and preservation of local culture are presented through Vivitek QUMI projectors. In addition, the ultra-short-throw projector D755WTi (winner of Taiwan Excellence Awards Silver Award) is used in conjunction with interactive energy education software to teach the children about the importance of energy conservation.

"Beyond Beauty-Taiwan from Above" public touring performance kicks off

Sponsored by the foundation, the first aerial documentary in Taiwan "Beyond Beauty-Taiwan from Above" was filmed by director Chi, Po-Lin; the film not only set the highest box office record of NT$200 million for Taiwanese documentaries but also won the Best Documentary Award at the 50th Golden Horse Awards. Since the film's launch, it has attracted considerable attention from all over Taiwan; in addition, the film has prompted the central and local governments to take action. However, many people living in remote townships have yet to see the film, therefore the foundation decided to launch the "3D Low Carbon Mobile Cinema Truck" in March, where high resolution Delta projectors are used to conduct round-island public benefit tour screenings in order to share the realistic, beautiful yet sorrowful landscape image of Taiwan. The truck has visited seven townships including Nantou's Xinyi Township, Tainan's Houbi District and Hualien's Yuli Town etc. It will continue to reach regions such as Yilan, Pingtung and Taitung. DEF hopes that the documentary will evoke a sense of introspection among the public and encourage them to put the ideals into practice in demonstrating their love for Taiwan!
