Albert Einstein defined insanity as 'doing the same thing over and
over again and expecting different results'.
When we need different results, we need to make a concerted and
conscious shift. Different actions can only follow from different
thinking. The same behaviour leads to familiar outcomes. People
and organizations who have been able to redefine their outcomes
have done so because of a deliberate switch in thinking and a new
game plan.
It took a shift in thinking for Bill Gates to make computers a
household commodity. It took a shift for Wright Brothers to create
the first ever aircraft without which we would not have known the
world of commercial aviation, as it exists today. A shift in the mind
of Mahatma Gandhi ushered in the non-violent struggle for
independence, which led our country to independence. It took a
shift for Dadasaheb Phalke to delineate the contours of Indian
cinema. The ubiquitous smartphone is an outcome of multiple
transformational shifts in the telecommunications industry.
Metamorphosis from the current state to a new and improved state
needs a change. It is a shift, which calls for audacity and courage.
We at PI are committed to it. The transition demands that we move
out of our comfort zone and we are willing to do it.
Let us reach out to possibilities that await us.

Super Spreader
Super Spreader has added one more name to the
specialty product offering to the farmers in the PI
portfolio. Super Spreader is a new generation multi-
action silicon based adjuvant imported from America
under exclusive rights of distribution. Super Spreader is
used for improving the efficiency of all the spray
solutions in agriculture. It lowers down the surface
tension of the spray solution leading to a more efficient
spread on the leaves and an increased penetration of
the solution. Super Spreader is mostly compatible with
all the crop care molecules and can be used on all crops.
Perido
Perido is based on technical constituent Propiconazole, which is
globally recognized as one of the most cost-effective fungicide for
the management of a range of fungal diseases on a wide range of
crops (field crops, fruits and vegetables). Perido inhibits the fungal
infestation and protects the crops by acting as a protectant,
curative and preventive fungicide with anti-sporulant activity. Due
to its fast action on target fungi, the protection of the crops starts
immediately after the application of Perido. Apart from fungal
activity Perido also helps in enhancing the quality of the produce.
This product will help PI strengthen its fungicidal solutions to
farmers in rice, wheat, tea, soybean, banana, coffee and
groundnut crops.

LIMELIGHT
PI never loses an opportunity to showcase its talent. Chemspec Europe 2015 was a perfect
opportunity for the PI Business Development team to engage with many key decision
makers from new targeted customers in Fine Chem business to the global innovator
companies in Agrochemical space. The strategic location of the exhibition played a key role
in the success of the event. A huge number of chemical companies located in Germany and
Expanding Boundaries
Switzerland visited the event and the response was overwhelming. The PI team showcased their infrastructure,
capabilities and chemistry offerings with these potential customer contacts while proactively finding out their
reported old and new chemistries, aligning them to PI's existing chemistry capabilities to generate interest.
Chemspec also provided an ideal platform to meet up with representatives from existing key customer base and
discuss with them the status of existing projects. Updates on new infrastructure at Jambusar was also shared and
customers were quite interested in getting more details about the set-up being planned at Jambusar. Chemspec
provided an excellent opportunity to increase the visibility of PI as a potential custom synthesis partner for global
companies who are looking for strategic partners.
Chemspec Europe 2015:
Agrotech 2015:
PI has always been dedicated to provide innovative solutions to farmers
which are beneficial for the stakeholders as well. Agro Tech Chandigarh
was the best platform to showcase PI's new products for farmers and
stakeholders. Agro Tech is CII's initiative in the field of agro technology as
well as an international business fair that attracts participation globally,
besides large scale involvement of the Indian agri and farming sector.
PI took this opportunity to introduce DSR, an environmentally sustainable,
innovative cost effective method of rice cultivation. Due to various
challenges faced by the rice growers, DSR is a sustainable method of rice
cultivation in future. The PI stall had kept focus at the wheat growing
farmers providing them Melsa as a solution for their weed problem and
the new BiovitaX for the good health and quality yield of wheat crop. With
an average farmer footfall of around 300 per day, the PI stall was embraced
by eminent personalities in field of agriculture. The exhibition was a huge
success where PI's efforts were appreciated widely.
Krishi Vikas:
It has always been a strive for PI to give the farmers the
gift of advanced farming. The Krishi Vikas fair- an initiative
by CII, Indore, was the perfect platform to showcase PI's
wide portfolio. This exhibition is organized with the
objective to help farmers understand the latest
techniques and gain more knowledge in the field of
agricultural development and help them in improving the
quality of the agricultural produce. The 2015 fair was
inaugurated by Mr. Shivraj Singh Chouhan, the CM of
Madhya Pradesh. This exhibition was an opportunity for
PI to display their portfolio for different Kharif crops
(Soyabean - Cotton) and update the farmers & dealers
about PI's vast range of products. The event was a big
success for PI as the stall saw a footfall of around 400-500
farmers and 50 dealers.
Kisan Mela:
It was an honour for PI to exhibit its products at the Kisan Mela. PAU
Ludhiana farmer fair is the prestigious fair in the Northern India.
Here, farmers from Punjab, Himachal & Haryana come to see new
products in the market showcased by different companies and buy
seeds of new varieties. This year, a number of Agrochemical &
Machinery companies and approximately 10,000 farmers
participated in the fair. PI divided its team in 6 sections to look after
each corner - Product display corner, Rice corner, Vegetable corner,
DSR corner, major product corner and Biovita corner. The number of
footfall at the DSR corner was overwhelming.

Exploring The Shift
THE DIGITAL WAY
It has been a few months since I have joined PI Industries. Having worked across different sectors like Aviation, Office Automation, Banking and Telecom before, Agriculture was very new to me. But I believe that this area is an extremely exciting sector as I could contribute to the economy of the country.
As a relatively new concept, there is no specific definition of digital strategy. Many would say that digital strategy has got something to do with incorporating email, websites and social networks into marketing and communication efforts. Some might say it has got to do with accepting electronic payment, registrations or donations. Others would say that it relates to going mobile. Depending on your sector and industry, the perception and role of digital changes radically.
To muddy the waters further, the rationale for digital is ever evolving. Initial efforts focused on substitution – uncovering cost savings and improved efficiency. Then, focus shifted to identifying what we could sell online. And today, focus has shifted again as we find ourselves asking how to use the digital space to improve the overall business.
The key enablers for digital marketing success are:1. Carefully thought strategy2. Investing in relevant digital capabilities that are well aligned with strategy (Digitization transforms the way they research and consider products and services, interact and make purchases on the digital consumer decision journey) 3. A strong and adaptive culture that helps in making up for a lack of crucial technical capabilities such as big data analytics, digital content management, and search-engine optimization4. Aligning organizational structures, talent development, funding mechanisms and key performance indicators (KPIs) with the chosen digital strategy
There are many opportunities for digitization in the Agri sector. At PI, we are focused and aligned to go the digital way. The core objectives being increasing reach, adding efficiency in business operations, better understanding of markets, connecting & communicating better with the farmers hence increasing the engagement level, providing Agri-solutions and creation of new business opportunities.
Hyderabadth thThe Hyderabad Strategic Business Partners Meet was arranged for two days - 19 and 20 July at Hotel
Marina for the distributors around Andhra Pradesh. The meet was attended by more than 100 partners.
The first day was organized exclusively for the distributors with over a crore sales.
Mr. Mayank Singhal, the Managing Director & CEO was the Chief Guest of the event. Other PI members
included Mr. R.D. Kapoor, Head Agri Business, Mr. G.K. Venugopal, VP – Agri Business and the PI members
from Andhra Pradesh. Mr. Mayank Singhal personally appreciated the effort of the distributors, motivated
and thanked them in his powerful speech. All the business partners were applauded with a token of
appreciation along with trophies and certificates.

IN CONVERSATION
As the new CFO of the company how do you see the growth of PI in the next 5 years?
I see an exciting growth journey for our company in the coming years. Firstly, looking at our business and
capabilities, we still have a huge potential to grow. The agro chemical industry in the country continues to
grow at a healthy pace with double digit growth expected in the next 5 to 10 years. This provides a huge
opportunity to leverage PI's key strengths and presence in the domestic market. Looking at newer business
models with emerging net technology will offer a higher growth potential for our company. On the CRAMS
(Contract Research and Manufacturing Services) business, deepening the relationships with our global
partners and expanding our capacities to meet the demand will provide tremendous growth opportunities.
Secondly, looking at areas beyond our core is critical to drive growth at scale. Moving into adjacent spaces
and tapping white space opportunities should complement our current business and further augment
growth.
Do you see any challenges that you would need to overcome to achieve this growth?
Sustaining rapid growth on a continual basis throws its own challenges. Developing an optimal business
model (mix of existing and new) to deliver on the growth opportunities, optimizing revenues and risk-
adjusted profits, optimizing capital allocation, building an organization to optimally support the strategic
roadmap of the company, ensuring strong process and system oriented approach and managing the
expectation of the stock market and stakeholders are few key challenges that we need to carefully work on
and address.
What is the vision you have for your team? How do you guide them to achieve it?
My vision for finance is to be the “Stewards of Enterprise Value and Leaders of Value Creation.” The business
objectives are to excel in finance and support our financial objectives, be a business enabler and create a
great place to work.
The foremost need is to structuring the finance organization to align to the strategic needs of our business.
Second is developing deep expertise within the function and building capacity for future scale up. Third is
developing business acumen and a solution oriented customer mindset. Forth is creating an environment of
empowerment, learning and development. Fifth and the most important thing is to invest time in our talent,
enrich their experience and enable them to grow.
We spend almost 70% of our wakeup time at workplace and each day should be a day where we all learn,
contribute, excel, grow and have some fun! Igniting the passion and enabling the team to achieve this is the
key for our organizational growth and success.
According to you, what is that one thing needed to 'SHIFT' the growth of PI to new heights?
PI has grown multifold in the past few years. To sustain and accelerate the growth, one key ingredient is to
build a strong organization with proven leadership capabilities to support the strategic roadmap of the
company.
Ms. Jayashree Satagopan – CFO, PI Industries
Please share with us your experience with PI in the last few weeks?
It's been a nice experience with PI over the past few weeks. I had the opportunity to visit our plants, R&D
centre, meet and interact with our people and the leadership team. Our vision of building on the foundation
of trust, being in the forefront of science and leading opportunities by delivering innovative solutions is
compelling. Our facilities reflect the company's philosophy of being in the forefront of technology.
Investment in the R&D facility is very futuristic and a huge step forward. Environment, health and safety
standards & compliance are at par with best in class companies.
Agro industry per se offers a huge potential for growth. PI has been growing at a pretty fast pace over the
past few years and this trend is expected to continue. Designing growth strategies that will drive value
creation to all stakeholders is the core of our business model. Building an organization aligned to the
strategic needs of the business is integral to our strategy. I am excited to be part of this journey in PI,
strengthening the foundation and partnering in the future growth of the company.
What in your opinion are the key strengths of PI that make it stand out in the Industry?
There are several key strengths that make our company stand out.
• Sustained aggressive business growth over the past few years
• Healthy balance between agri business and custom synthesis
• Excellent reach in the domestic market with strong network of dealers & distributors
• Spotting opportunities and being ahead of the market in contract manufacturing
• Partnership built with global players on the basis of trust and integrity
• Strong product pipeline and healthy order book
• Investment in high end technology at plants and R&D centre
• Strong operations with focus on environment, health and safety practices
• Profitable growth, strong balance sheet and good cash generation
The New Expertise. A New Vision.

MESHIFT
The Annual Meet, 2015 focused on a 'SHIFT' in attitude that could help every individual to move forward
and constantly stay ahead of the rest by bringing in a fresh change in the 'System', 'Habits' and 'Technique'
with 'Focus' and 'Intelligence'.
High performers for the year gone by were rewarded for their achievements at the PI award ceremony. Vilas Nayak,
the famous speed painter of Asia, unveiled the winners with his on-spot painting on canvas of the winning faces.
Everybody enjoyed the extraordinary performances by 'Angels in Grooves' and Avijit Tinku, the winners of India's Got
Talent, Season 3. One of the most inspiring moments was when Harsha Bhogle and Vivek Bindra motivated the PI
team with their powerful speech. The event came to an end with the mesmerizing voice of singer Jyotsana Narang.
The two-day highly motivational event was action packed with
various performances, workshops and awards. The workshop on
SHIFT was the most engaging session in the event. The
employees were divided into 10 teams where each team came
up with ideas for bringing the desired 'SHIFT' in their respective
areas of business to be implemented in the year ahead.
Striving To Bring In The Change
15
One of the most enjoyed activities was the dance
performance. The employees were divided into
20 teams and were given only 2 hours to practice.
Each team had a choreographer who helped
them put up a brilliant dance performance. It
was a beautiful experience to watch the
employees explore their dancing talent on stage.
The Annual Meet ended on high spirits, inspiring
everyone to think big, shift the gear and stay
ahead.
S. M. Ahsan-Gurgaon
The Annual Meet has always been a good platform to come together as a team,
meet new faces and bond with them. With motivational speakers and
engaging workshops, we were even more inspired to bring in a SHIFT to our
habits and to the system. I look forward to more such events by PI that push us
to work better with a cleared vision.
Jnaneshwar G K-Udaipur
This Annual Meet inspired us to take PI to the next level by bringing in a
SHIFT. The motivational speech by Vivek Bindra and the workshop was
much needed at this juncture to induce new habits, innovation, focus and
success in our system. It was a great experience to interact and build teams
to bring in new ideas that would help the company rise higher in the
coming years.
Simran Kaur-Gurgaon
They say, to change ourselves effectively, we must change our perceptions.
PI has already achieved great success in the Indian market and abroad. But
to rise even higher we need to adapt our systems and habits to external and
internal conditions and create a SHIFT from the traditional focus on back
end optimization to a value generation through technology. This was my
first Annual Meet in PI and I strongly believe that this “Shift” can be
accomplished through good practices, collective intelligence through
collaboration & interactions and engaging in the organization's growth. We
are all geared up for the New Shift!
EMPLOYEE OUTLOOK
As the Annual Meet 2015 inspired us to SHIFT our Systems, Habits and Techniques with Focus and
Intelligence. How has the workshop on SHIFT helped you plan better to take PI ahead in the coming years?
Shifting Gear To The Next Level
Anupam Satpathy-Gurgaon
In my last 2 years in PI Industries, the Annual Meet has been one of the
most awaited events. Being a part of the Product Management team the
event brings about a perfect blend of fun and work. I have thoroughly
enjoyed the competitive moments with friends from every part of the
country for the brain teasing simulating activities during the SHIFT
workshop. The extravaganza and the magnanimity of the event is growing
each year with lots of exhilarating actions adding upon. I would like to
congratulate the organizing team and wish the organization to rise up to a
new level in the years ahead.
Raj Choudhary – Panoli
In this year's Annual Meet Mr. Mayank Singhal painted a vision for PI to
become a billion dollar company in the coming years. And the workshop
showed us the way to achieve the goal. It encouraged us all to ideate and think
of ways bring in a SHIFT to the system. It was a brilliant experience for us to
take part in this exercise and contribute to the future of PI.
Manish Arora-Agri Sales Karnal
It was a wonderful experience for me to be part of this Annual Meet in
Hyderabad. The workshop on SHIFT taught us how to solve the complexity
of a situation and the importance of positive thinking in our career. After
the workshop I find all my assignments even more engaging as the
workshop made me see the hidden potential in the work that I do every
day. I thank PI for organizing this workshop for us.
Poonam- Gurgaon
All achievements begin with an idea. The workshop has put those ideas in
front. This impetus has empowered the momentum for success. It was a
great platform to learn and collect powerful ideas from different people. It
gave us an opportunity to think in the strategic direction. Everyone
exchanged ideas and this opportunity will surely magnify the success.

Vikas Ratra-GurgaonA great move from the ORBIT theme of last year. Now the onus is on each one of us is to SHIFT from our comfort zones and take PI Industries to conquer new frontiers and reach new heights. It was a great learning experience for each one of us during the team workshops conducted during the event.

DISCOVER PI
Malaria, one of the world's deadliest diseases, kills hundreds of thousands of people every
year, spreading through a devastatingly effective cycle of incubation and transmission. It
starts when a female anopheles mosquito infected with a malaria parasite bites someone,
injecting the single-celled parasite into the victim's blood. The parasite invades that
human's liver cells, maturing, multiplying and moving into the bloodstream, making the
person sick. When other mosquitoes bite that person, they ingest the parasite, which
infects them. About 10 days later, when an infected mosquito happens upon uninfected
humans, the whole cycle begins again.
Understanding Malaria – An attempt to break the deadly cycle
But what if there were a way to break that cycle?
Research by Jun Li, a University of Oklahoma biochemistry professor, could pave the way for a method to do just
that. Through his work Li has been able to isolate a mosquito protein critical to the malaria parasite's life cycle.
That finding could one day lead to a treatment that doesn't affect just individuals, but entire communities by
blocking the transmission of the disease.
"You won't be a source of malaria. Think about this in the context of in a village, a city or the whole world. Your one
shot could actually contribute to the reduction, or even elimination, of malaria", says Li. Li's research sought to
clarify a critically important question about malaria: How does the parasite interact with the host mosquitoes
carrying it? What he found was a protein that serves an important function in malaria's lifespan--it allows the
parasite to invade the insects' bodies.
"The mosquito is an organism. The parasite is also a pathogen," Li said. "Of course, when the parasite enters the
mosquito by ingestion, there should be mechanisms through which the mosquito's system tries to prevent
infection. But this protein actually acts like an anchor to help the parasite penetrate the physical barrier in
mosquito guts."
He and his collaborators found the protein by collecting data from mosquitoes in Africa, along with blood from
people infected with malaria. The researchers then fed that blood to mosquitoes, analyzing the rate at which the
parasite multiplied in their bodies while also examining the insects' genotypes. They found a particular protein,
known as FREP1, in the part of mosquitoes' digestive systems known as the "midgut" makes the insects more
susceptible to invasion by the parasite. Once the parasite gets into a mosquito, it multiplies.
"It is very important to note that the malaria has to infect the mosquito first before they can infect humans," Li
said. "This protein is what allows that to happen."
Identifying that protein is a big step for Li and his collaborators. Now that they know the role it plays in spreading
malaria, they can work on ways to use it to block transmission of the disease. Li says that such a treatment could
involve injecting people with the mosquito protein. That patient would then generate an antibody against the
protein. Any mosquito that bit the patient afterward would ingest the antibody--which would prevent the malaria
parasite from taking hold in the mosquito's body.
"Your body becomes a dead end for the parasite," Li said, "and the community is protected." Li is now collecting more
data in Africa to support his work, and verifying that the protein plays the same role in multiple strains of malaria.
He's hoping his research could help halt the transmission of a disease that he has a personal stake in stopping.
Applauding The Young ChampionPI has always believed that talent and determination can take anyone beyond any limits. Therefore PI takes

MAKE THE HEALTHY SHIFT
Desk jobs don't do much for healthy habits. Before long, you may start to wish you hadn't eaten that cheeseburger at lunch or that you had gone to the gym before work. But don't worry. There are simple ways to get back on track without drastically changing your daily routine.
Start off on the right footThe more you can get up and walk, the better. Start your day by parking as far as you can from your office building. If you take public transportation, get off one stop early and walk the rest of the way. And when you arrive at work, take the stairs instead of the elevator.
Prepare for a snack attackMake sure you have healthy food available to curb periodic hunger, so you don't reach for chips or cookies. Nuts, granola bars and fresh fruit are smart staples to have on hand.
Try some desk-ercisesNot everyone has an office door to privately exercise behind. Trade your desk chair for an exercise ball. Other suggestions include doing 15 to 30 second leg lifts underneath your desk, or holding your leg behind to stretch it during a break.
Just keep movingIt's important to keep moving throughout the day. Get up at lunch and take a walk instead of sitting in the break room. Walk to your co-worker's desk instead of emailing them a question.
Keep yourself hydrated 8 to 10 glasses of water every day can help keep you hydrated. Bring a 16 ounce bottle of water to work and try to finish it by lunch, and then fill it up again and finish that by 3 p.m. By 5 p.m., finish a third bottle.
Take vacationsIt's very beneficial to get away for a long vacation that will help you recharge your batteries. Vacations help reduce stress and get your mind off work, especially if you're having a conflict.
