Time to take action against hunger . September is Hunger Action Month! Food insecurity is a reality for many people throughout southwestern Pennsylvania. In Oakland, both our community neighbors and students on campus sometimes struggle with finding access to nutritious food resources. In partnership with the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank, Pitt’s Office of Community and Governmental Relations, Pitt Police, and Staff Council are soliciting contributions in direct support of two Oakland food pantries: The Pitt Pantry and The Oakland Community Human Services Food Pantry. How to donate: 1 Donate via the campaign donation page tinyurl.com/yyj58t43 2 Donate in-person at events throughout September. We cannot accept food, cash, or checks during this drive. Pitt Farmers Market Thursday, September 5 Pitt Farmers Market Thursday, September 12 Staff Council General Meeting Wednesday, September 18 Staff & Faculty Pitt Football Game Saturday, September 21 Healthy U Fair, September 25 Pitt Farmers Market Thursday, September 26 A contribution of $10 can provide 50 meals! Direct Service: Staff and Faculty are also encouraged to take action by volunteering during the monthly Produce-to-People service event on Thursday, September 12. Participants are provided transportation to and from the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank in Duquesne, PA, where they’ll volunteer to prepare and distribute bulk foodstuffs to those in need.
