Arrival Day

To start your summer school experience off right, we do our best to make your arrival as easy as possible. Our mentors will be at the station to pick you up, take you to get your room key, and show you to your room.

Welcome DayA warm welcome

The Welcome Day is the official Summer School kick-off. Apart from receiving a warm welcome, you are taken on a tour of the school and receive your welcome package. During an IT introduction you receive information about the computer and internet facilities on campus. Those who are interested in renting a bike will have the opportunity to rent a bike this morning. We end with informal drinks at the Sports Center.

Tilburg TourGet to know Tilburg

When & Where?• Saturday July 14• 13:00 - 16:00• Tilburg Central Station

During this walking tour we will show you the city center of Tilburg in all its glory. Starting with a tour through the shopping streets, we will visit an interesting museum and end where many nice little restaurants and café’s are situated. We will conclude our tour on one of the lovely terraces of Tilburg with a cool and refreshing drink.

Of course we will not forget to show you the amazing nightlife either!

An outdoor picnic is the perfect way to spend your first Sunday in the Netherlands.

Meet your fellow social program participants and enjoy a great meal on the grounds of the University. Your social program mentors will also be there to meet you and answer any questions you might have.

Traditional Dutch Games NightCan you beat the Dutch?

The question is: are the Dutchies as good at it as they say they are? Compete against your fellow students and try to win the sack-race or be the first who gets the nail in the bottle!

The crazy Dutch games are there to win them. Of course there are some nice prizes to win as well.

When & Where?• Saturday July 21• 08:00 - 21:00 • Tilburg Central Station• Wear comfortable shoes

No trip to The Netherlands is complete without a visit to the capital city of Amsterdam. Our mentors will take you to see some of the famous sights including a tour of the canals and an interesting Museum (Anne Frank Museum). But there’s more! Just let yourself be surprised and join the ride.

You can bring your own lunch or you can buy it. Dinner in Amsterdam is possible at your own expense.

La Trappe BrewerySee how beer is brewed

Have you always wanted to know how beer is brewed? Or do you just fancy a glass of delicious Dutch beer?

Then come with us to the La Trappe Brewery, where one of the best Dutch beers is brewed right before your eyes!

Movie NightLights. Camera. Action!

When & Where?• Tuesday July 24• 19:30 - 22:30• Academia • We will take care of drinks and snacks!

Sit back, relax, and enjoy an evening of scintillating cinema. For one evening only, we will turn a lecture room into a big-screen movie theater and show you the movie which is the most popular among you and your Summer School friends.

Visit to the EftelingOne thrilling exciting adventure!

The Efteling is an amusementpark like no other. Its central theme is fairytales, and you can find all sorts of different rides which are all guaranteed fun!

You can ride the various rollercoasters and enjoy yourself all day long!

Rowing ClinicYou against the water

When & Where?• Sunday July 29• 13:00 - 18:00• Meeting place: Central Station Tilburg, we will leave from there by bike• Bring sportswear and a towel

Rowing club Vidar competes at the highest level, so you will be learning from the best. They teach you all the rowing basics before taking you out onto the water.

Afterwards, there is time to relax and share your experiences over a drink.

International DinnerTaste food from all over the world

Have you always been interested in other eating habits? Always wanted to taste food from all over the world? This is your chance! The concept of this night: you bring a traditional dish from your country and we provide drinks and the location.

It is also possible to prepare your dish at our location.

City Trip The Hague & BeachA day of politics and beach fun

When & Where?• Saturday August 4• 08:00 - 21:00• Tilburg Central Station• Wear comfortable shoes. Lunch is included, but dinner not.

The Hague: an important city to the Dutch since that is where the government resides. In the morning, we will take you to the Binnenhof, the centre of Dutch politics.

In the afternoon, we are off to Scheveningen, one of the most famous Dutch beaches and a lively pier. If the weather is poor, we will go to a museum featuring the works of the world-famous Dutch artist M.C. Escher.

Lacrosse DayCatch, carry and pass the ball to win!

Learn how to play lacrosse and amaze your team and competitors with your newborn lacrosse skills in an exciting competition! Be aware: this game is for though guys and girls!

A lunch will be provided to make sure you have enough energy to win the game.

Pub QuizUse your brains, then go crazy!

When & Where?• Friday August 7• 19:30 - 23:00• Pub ‘Heuvel 15’

If you know you’re always right, but no-one ever listens to you, then this is your chance. The Pub Quiz is the ultimate way to prove once and for all that your team is the smartest.

After competing, we forget all rivalry and party together. Forget about statistics, grammar, or the economy, even if it’s just for one night.

Farewell BBQFinal festivities and farewells

When & Where?• Friday August 10• 17:00 - 21:00• Sports Center

All good things must come to an end, but let’s make the ending count! This is the time to recover from your exams and share memories with your fellow Summer School participants. While enjoying a nice grilled burger (or vegetarian equivalent), we’ll say goodbye to the teachers, mentors, and classmates.

We hope you will have had some serious fun!

Sports CenterGet competitive at the Sports Center

Are you interested in sports? Visit Tilburg University Sports Center. It is located at walking distance from the university campus, and gives you the opportunity to practice different sports, such as tennis, swimming and fitness. For your relaxation, there is even a sauna.

For just 25 euros, you can buy a sports card for the entire summer. Or you can buy a daily pass for 6 Euros.

Language CafeWillkommen, bienvenida, welcome!

The Language Cafe concept is simple: get people together in an informal setting and speak a different language. Whether you want to practice what you’ve learnt during the Dutch lessons or simply speak your native German for a while, everyone is welcome to join us for a drink and a chat.

Languages: English, Dutch, Spanish, German, Italian, Chinese, or any other language you happen to speak!
