You Have Made Us VERY Proud!!

As principal of LAHS I would like to congratulate Coach Higgins and the Lady Tigers on an outstanding basketball sea-son. Coach Higgins’ team has surely represented our school in exemplary fashion. Their successes on the court, coupled with their strong student leadership qualities off of the court, have certainly made this year incredibly exciting for LAHS, as well as the community. Their excellence has sparked tremendous community support and school pride throughout the town of Lake Arthur. Their commit-ment and hard work are surely a credit not only to themselves, but also to their families, and our school and community.

Thanks for a GREAT sea-son!

Sincerely, Brant R. Smith

The remarkable dedication and effort displayed by the Lake Arthur Lady Tigers Basketball Team this season was an inspi-ration to us all. I know that I, like most of the surrounding area, felt a heightened pride in our town because of the great efforts of the Lady Tigers. Thanks to each member of the Lady Tigers Basketball Team as well as the coaching staff and other staff for this. Even though you fell just a little short of what your goal was, please know that you accomplished much and we are very proud to call you, our Lady Tigers. This team will be remembered as one of the great girls basketball teams to play at Lake Arthur High School and each of you can always be proud of that.

Thanks, Mayor Robbie Bertrand

Mayor Robbie Bertrand

on behalf of the 2013-14 Lady Tigers I would like thank the community and school for their tremendous support throughout our exciting season this year. Although we fell a little short in the semifinal game, nothing could lessen the special meaning of the overwhelming support from the community and school that arrived in the thousands at Burton that night. In fact, our support throughout the entire season was outstanding, and we are truly grateful to everyone for making our special season even more exciting.

our 26-4 season was highlighted by an undefeated district championship, the first in 11 years, and advancing to the Ladies Top 28! I was very pleased with our girls’ commitment, hard work, and dedication throughout the year. They are without a doubt a special group of girls that have made achieving excellence a habit!

We support our Lady Tigers!

As they laced up their basketball shoes and hit the court for what would be the last time Wednesday, March 5, the Lady Tigers were al-ready winners to the community they represent-ed. The team of 16 poised and talented ladies set out on this season to make it further than they had in the years past and that is exactly what they did.

It had been over four decades since a Lake Arthur Lady Tigers Basketball team found them-selves playing in the semifinals but this year that all changed. After falling short in the quarterfi-nals in 2013 the Lady Tigers made it a goal to go further in 2014.

The 2014 season was one for the record books for the Lady Tigers. With a season record of 25 and 3 and an undefeated district season the la-dies were already crowned District Champions.

The long road of playoff games began as the Lady Tigers took on Ferriday at home in the bi-district round. Defeating Ferriday by a final score of 63-21 advanced the Lady Tigers to the regional round of the playoffs. The team trav-eled to Capitol to take on Capitol High and took home the win with a final score of 81-50. The excitement continued as the ladies learned they

would have one last home game of the season as they would host the quarter finals at home in Lake Arthur. This was the game that would ei-ther match their season from the previous season or achieve their goal. The Lady Tigers battled and once again came out on top, defeating St. Thomas Aquinas with a final score of 70-45 and advanced to the semi-finals at the Burton Coli-seum. Goal accomplished.

The Lady Tigers, along with their large posse of proud Lady Tiger fans anxiously and excit-edly traveled to Lake Charles to watch the Lady Tigers take on the Doyle Tigers. This was by far the toughest playoff game for the ladies and they hustled and played hard but unfortunately fell short in the final seconds. The 2014 season came to an end for the Lady Tigers with a final score of 47-49.

Although their season had ended, the Lady Tigers exited the court the same way they en-tered. Heads held high and with immense class. Leaving the court for Elizabeth Guidry, Gabby Guidry, Destiny Robinson was a little harder as it would be the last time for them. The three se-niors led the Lady Tigers on a great season. one that will be remembered by many and talked about for years to come. The 2014 season put Tiger pride in the hearts of many in the small town of Lake Arthur.

“In any team sport, the best teams have consistency and chemistry.”

The Lake Arthur High School Lady Ti-gers stand out in school history for a num-ber of reasons. one of those reasons has nothing to do with basketball statistics or records. This year the team has a unique trait. There were three sets of sisters on the team. out of the 16 member team of play-ers, six of them had a sister on the team.

“I think it’s pretty cool; it’s pretty awe-some”, said Josey Broussard, about hav-ing her sister on the same team as her. Josey, a 16-year-old junior Lady Tiger center shares the court with her sister, Jac-ey Broussard, a 15-year-old sophomore Lady Tiger forward.

“We are already pretty close but it has brought us closer. Sharing this experience with my best friend just makes things even better”, was Jacey’s response when asked how she felt about playing along side her sister. The Broussard sisters are the daugh-ters of Ron and Christy Broussard.

Shane and Jill Trahan are the proud parents of a second set of sisters on the Lady Tigers team. Ashlyn and Kaitlyn Trahan are both guards for the team.

Kaitlyn, the 16-year-old junior starter, said, “sometimes you cross boundar-ies between sisters and teammates, but it has been a good experience.” Ashlyn, the younger of the two Trahan sisters, is a 15-year-old freshman and says, “ it has been fun. I have learned alot from watch-ing her (Kaitlyn) play.”

The third and final set of sisters on the team are the Guidry sisters. Elizabeth Guidry, the 17-year old, senior is a for-ward and guard for the Lady Tigers and her sister Sarah Guidry, is a 15-year-old sophomore who plays post for the team. The sisters are the daughters of Jubal and Jessica Guidry.

When asked their opinion about playing on the same team as her sister, the Guidry sisters had the same response, “having bonding time with each other is awesome. We share time away from home that has

brought us closer. You know someone will always be there to have your back.”

The three sets of sisters all have some-thing else in common with each other. Each player played their very first basket-ball game at the young age of seven-years-old. Also, they have all had the privilege

of sharing the court with their sister for two years.

With an amazing season behind, them being able to share this experience with your sister was summed up by all of the girls in one word, “awesome”.
