They were helped considerably in their deliberations by the 81 Year 7 and 8 parents who provided their views through our online survey, many of whom also attended our Parents’ Meeting on the subject. 76% of parents were in favour of the proposal, with 14% not sure, an 11% against, with a number of thoughtful comments that governors considered carefully. The result was a unanimous decision to go ahead with the proposal. Options process for both Year 9 and for Year 8 will begin this term, and parents with children in these two year groups will be contacted shortly. There will need to be some movement of Parents’ Evenings and adjustments to Options Evening to allow both processes to take place at one time. We will let parents know as soon as plans are finalised. I met with our new student nominated and elected Student Council for the first time on Tuesday. Each time a Council group completes its term, I am sure that the next one cannot be as great to work with as the group we are losing…but then I find that it is. Different, but every bit as wonderful. It says a great deal about our school that every student elected group is thoughtful, sensible, positive and fun – at the same time as assertively representing their fellow students to the leadership of the school and to outside agencies. THURSTABLE CAREERS EVENING I would like to take this opportunity to say thank you to all the students who attended the School Careers Evening with their parents and carers on Thurs 15 th January. I hope that you found it useful and informative to assist you in making more informed careers choices. We felt that the evening was a huge success and it would not have been possible without the valuable input and attendance from all the Exhibitors who gave up their time to talk to our students about their particular occupational area. A huge thank you goes to the Sixth Form Leadership Team who volunteered to help me with the preparation, meeting and greeting everyone and ensuring that the needs of our exhibitors and students were met throughout the evening. Thank you to Jamie Peachey, Abi Morgan, Kirsty Bryant and Sophie Stocker. We provided a light buffet for the Exhibitors before the event started which this year was made by the Year 10 Catering students and organised by Miss Doe. It was so delicious that I kept getting asked to confirm that our students did definitely make it as they couldn’t believe how fantastic it was.
