Words of Gratitude Hello, My mom forwarded me a note from the Parish Bulletin, requesting reflections from alumni about how education at Lumen Christi prepared them for high school and beyond. I could write quite a long essay extolling numerous reasons I'm grateful for my time, experiences, education, and relationships at Lumen Christi (or Sts. Cecilia and James, as I knew it). As briefly as I can, I'd begin to express my appreciation this way: There are so many reasons why I deeply appreciate the education I received at Sts. Cecilia and James. For one thing, I cultivated friendships with some truly wonderful people. For another, I learned a valuable lesson in how to balance homework, extra-curriculars, and time with friends and family. I certainly learned that hard work pays off, both in and outside the classroom. But above all, I'm profoundly grateful for the teachers I had during my nine years at Sts. C&J. I remember the name of every teacher I had from K5 to 8th grade, mostly because each one made me feel like I brought something special to the class. It was easy for me to love school because they enthusiastically encouraged my learning, made it fun and interesting, challenged me in my strong areas and offered extra support in areas I needed it. I still love school, due in part to the way special teachers (like Mr. Carloni and Mrs. Tarcin) shared their passion for reading, writing, and applying their learning to everyday life. Besides excellent and supremely attentive teachers, I received two other precious gifts from my education at Sts. Cecilia and James: a sense of moral and religious responsibility. I knew my education required that my parents had to make sacrifices in other areas. But rather than feeling guilty about this, I felt empowered to make a difference with the education I received. Whether we had assignments in class to address real-world problems, had the opportunity to develop special skills like leadership, teamwork, or discipline in sports or student council, or were invited to serve and be in relationship with others in need during and outside the school day, I came to see my education as an important tool to use whatever gifts and opportunities I had to help those around me. Finally, I am grateful for the faith formation I received at Sts. Cecilia and James. I grew up always being made to feel a valuable member of our parish, which helped me to see that going to Mass wasn't about showing up to get something, but a chance to express my thanks to God for all the blessings in my life and to contribute to my faith community. From learning how to pray to participating in liturgy as an altar server or lector, I learned that God desires to be in an intimate relationship with me; that God loves me and all God's children and is calling and empowering each one to love one another as freely and fully as God loves us. I know I wasn't always perfect (or even good) at this as a student, but I still remember Fr. Spitz's homily from one All Saints' Day Mass, when he insisted that we all had a vocation to be Saint X of Mequon. Since that day, I've tried to remind myself that holiness isn't just possible for everyone, it's a gift and task that excludes no one. My education at Sts. Cecilia and James is one of the greatest blessings and privileges of my life. I am quite certain that there's no way I'd be who I am or where I am today without the
intellectual, moral, social, and religious formation I received thanks to especially committed and passionate teachers, administrators, and parents. I only hope that when my son Noah is old enough to start school, my wife and I will be able to find a similar community to cultivate these values, relationships, and love of learning. With deepest thanks and prayers for God's choicest blessings for everyone at Lumen Christi, past, present, and future, Marcus Mescher Sts. Cecilia and James Class of 1996 PhD Candidate, Theology and Education, Boston College !

THE SCORECARDOfficial newsletter of the TMYBA Vol 8
Dear TMYBA Family,Baseball and softball seasons are fast approaching! The TMYBA Board has been meeting since September to plan for the upcoming season. As always, our goal is to continue to improve the experience for our young athletes.
I would like to highlight a few items for the upcoming season:
Registration is being changed to an online system this season. Please look for registration details in the Base Chatter section of the newsletter.
We are hoping to restructure the format of our softball leagues. See below for further discussion.
The Pitch - TMYBA Information Session will be held in the Homestead Fieldhouse Lobby on Sunday, February 12 from 1:30 pm – 4:00 pm. Details inside.
TMYBA will continue its partnership with the Positive Coaching Alliance. We require that all first year coaches take an on-line training course prior to the season. We will also be asking returning coaches to take a PCA course “Cul-ture, Practices and Games” if they did not last season. TMYBA will be covering the registration fee for the courses. Further information will be provided to coaches as the season approaches.
The Rookie Softball League completed its third season last year and was a big success. We would like to encourage any girls in K5 to 2nd grade to register for the upcoming season.
Currently, we have a Girls’ Minor League for 3rd – 5th graders and Girls’ Major League for 6th – 8th graders. We would like to change the format to the following:
Major Softball 7th & 8th graders Tues/Thurs nights Fireman’s Park AAA Softball 5th & 6th graders Mon/Wed nights River Barn Park
AA Softball 3rd & 4th graders Tues/Thurs nights River Barn Park
The primary reasons behind the proposed change is to avoid having girls two grades apart in the same league and to introduce 5th graders to live pitching. By moving Major Softball to Fireman’s Park, 7th & 8th grade girls will get to experience playing under the lights after school is out. This restructuring is dependent on having at least fifty 7th & 8th grade girls register for Major Softball so we can have four or more teams in Major Softball.
I need to thank many people who are important to the success of TMYBA. The coaches vol-unteer a great deal of time and it is appreciated! Our umpiring program continues to be success-
ful and the umpires did a nice job last season. I would also like to thank our generous sponsors for their support.
Thank you to the TMYBA Board members and League Directors for all the time and ener-gy put forth to insure that our kids have a great experience playing baseball and softball. I would like to thank Laura Behnken, Bob Ottem, Brian Schwam and Stephen Valentine for serving on the TMYBA Board. Laura, Bob and Brian were long-time board members and contributed greatly to the success of TMYBA.
Please contact me at any time if you have comments or questions at [email protected].
See you on the diamonds,
Tom Price TMYBA President

Veterans Eligible9th Grade Boys Ninth grade boys that do not make their spring or summer high school baseball team will be eligible to play in Major League Baseball. Since most high school squads don’t have their tryouts until well after TMYBA rosters are completed, we request any ninth grader who may want to play TMYBA register no later than March 1. Any ninth grader who subsequently makes their high school team, will receive a full refund. If you have any questions, please contact Tom Price at [email protected].

Guardians will be asked to sign a waiver prior to participating in their first session.
Coaching ClinicsTMYBA requires that all coaches attend one of our
coaching clinics. We will be offering three clinics in March. The dates are Wednesday, March 14; Wednesday, March 21;
and Monday, March 26. All clinics will be from 7:00 pm – 8:30 pm in the Homestead Lecture Hall. To find the Lecture Hall, park in the eastern lot along Mequon Road. Ken Bigler, Jr. of Bigler Baseball will be leading the clinics and will cover hitting, throwing and fielding at each of the clinics.
