Writing task 1 On a recent holiday you lost a valuable item. Fortunately you have travel insurance to cover the cost of anything lost. Write a letter to the manager of your insurance company. In your letter Describe the item you lost Explain how you lost it Tell the insurance company what you would like them to do Dear Sir or Madam, I am writing with regard to (this letter to inform you) my mobile phone which I lost in my last trip to Istanbul. It was Samsung Galaxy Note III which I purchased from one the most famous malls in the western part of Tehran, Iran. It was decorated by precious stones and totally costs USD 250 (you can put your own currency as you will be claiming an insurance in your own country). I lost this gadget when I was in Istanbul for a one-week vacation. My partner and I decided to go to Top Kapi, and I left all our possessions including my mobile phone in the hotel’s safe. Unfortunately my (,)cell phone was not in the safe when we came back to the hotel. It might have been stolen. (looks naïve to me I think you can write: I suspect the foul play from someone incharge of the hotel’s safe) ( I am writing this letter to know or proceed with the claim process for the lost item as I had insured all my valuable travel goods with your esteemed insurance company) I was wondering if you could possibly pay the amount of money I spent for buying this item by a crossed cheque because all my belongings were insured by your company.

Writing task 2

Some people think that teenage years are the happiest times of most people’s lives. Others think that adult life brings more happiness, in spite of greater responsibilities.

Discuss both these viewpoints and give your own opinion.

There has been a heated debate among sociologists and psychologists on which period of life brings more happiness. Although a group of people believe that adulthood is the happiest period of one’s life, others have a different say about this. Both these viewpoints will be analysed before a reasoned conclusion is drawn in this essay. ( I will discuss both the viewpoints to come to a logical conclusion) I think active voice is preferred when discussing your viewpoint.

The most key ( I wud write prime) advantage of teenage years is the lack of responsibility.(May be here you can include one extra point of lack of responsibility before giving example) For example, a brother of mine who aged ( who is 17 years old) 17 went to compulsory military service while he failed to gain a qualification from a university. He would probably get a well-paid part-time job, and he could taste his first financial independence without being held accountable. This makes it clear why teenage years could be the happiest period of one’s life.

On the other hand, the most positive point of adulthood is that adults are independent, and people can rely on them. For instance, I have been working for a refinery for more than 10 years. All All my colleagues are heavily relied on me when they want to make a critical decision because I accept the consequences of my decisions. In addition to this, my family depend depends on me financially and emotionally. Not only do I spend quality time with my children, but I also (but also I …. Not only… but also is correct idiom usage) assist my partner to achieve her dreams. This example clearly illustrates why adults enjoy themselves a lot.

To sum up, although teenage years have many plus points, I personally believe that adulthood is the most joyful period of one’s life. It is suggested that teenagers should be held accountable and included in family decisions to be familiarised with the process of decision making.
