TRANSCRIPT

  • Thank you for attending the fourth Multicultural Ministries Summit, a celebration of twenty-five years of multicultural evangelism. The world has come to North America! Our North American society is currently being challenged with issues of social inequity and racial tension, and is unsure about its acceptance of the global community within our borders. But the church has no such dilemma. What a blessing to know that the United Pentecostal Church International has been purposeful and intentional about reaching cultures here in North America for decades. Although we celebrate a twenty-five-year milestone, this is not to imply that we only began twenty-five years ago. It only represents the formation of the Multicultural Ministries office. Many of our ministries have origins in the UPCI far beyond twenty-five years.

MCM is blessed to have sixteen ministries that are focused toward evangelizing a specific nationality in North America. We have three ministries that deal with cultural needs or special opportunity (Deaf Evangelism, Refugee and International Student Ministry, and the United Nations Ministry). We have two powerful resource ministries: All Nations Sunday, a multicultural attendance driver, and Globaltracts.com, a website dedicated to providing free soulwinning materials translated into more than sixty languages. In addition to these, our Multicultural Ministries Missionary program is a wonderful blessing; more than fifty daughter-work churches and preaching points have been established in the last eight years.

We now have almost three hundred licensed UPCI ministers within the MCM network: ninety-five Native American/First Nation with outreaches on fifty-seven reservation lands; sixty-nine Filipino ministers, fifty of which are leading or pastoring a church; twenty Burmese; twenty Jewish; fifteen French; fifteen African Immigrant; fifteen Deaf; and ten Haitian. We have ministers in the Amish, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Gypsy, Slavic, South Asian, Southeast Asian, and Vietnamese communities as well. We conservatively estimate the constituency to represent more than eleven thousand members of the UPCI in North America.

Your presence at the Multicultural Summit is an honor. We thank you for attending and pray that you leave challenged and equipped to carry out our mandate of reaching every soul. Immigration has brought our proximity to the Great Commission closer than it has ever been. What a tremendous opportunity lies before us!

While it would be disingenuous to pretend that we don’t still have work to do and progress to make, this is a time to celebrate what God has done and is using us to do. Let us focus on the future with a positive outlook for growth, revival, and evangelism in every cultural group in North America!

Special thanks to the leaders of UPCI North American Missions, Spanish Evangelism, Building the Bridge, Ladies Ministries, and Single Adult Ministries that are participating in this event and helping us celebrate.

We want to give honor to our greatest earthly assets in our mission, the MCM Ministry Directors. Special thanks to our MCM District Coordinators for their efforts for this cause. We also want to thank our MCM Ambassadors for their investment, along with all of our financial partners.

In closing, I would like to thank my family. My beautiful wife, Randi, and our children, Elijah, Logan, Juliana, Lincoln, and Judah, deserve honor for their sacrifice in sharing me with the UPCI in this season. I could not be successful in this role without their unwavering support.

    With much appreciation,

    Brocc Chavis Multicultural Ministries Director

  • THE COLLINS

Bro. and Sis. Collins served as missionaries to the country of Bolivia for 14 years where they learned the culture and the language of the Hispanic people. When they decided to return to the United States, North American Missions asked them to consider serving as Intra-cultural Missionary Evangelists to the Hispanic community of North America. In their new ministry they would be partnering with English congregations in order to establish Spanish daughter churches. They were named as the first ICME missionaries in 2007, and helped establish the first Spanish daughter church in November 2008.

Since then they have helped start 31 Spanish daughter congregations in 30 different cities in 10 different states. They have seen some of those Spanish churches grow to average more than 50 in attendance every Sunday, many filled with the Holy Ghost, and many baptized in Jesus’ Name.

They normally spend five to six months working with a local English-speaking congregation to help establish the daughter work. They evangelize the Spanish community, train workers to help lead the new work, and then launch the Spanish-speaking congregation. They are currently on assignment in Bellevue, Nebraska, where they will help establish another Spanish daughter work.

  • WESLEY SWANSON

Rev. Wesley Swanson is the South Central Representative for Deaf Evangelism. I am teaching here on behalf of Bro. Murillo. Deaf Evangelism ministry has grown under Bro. and Sis. Murillo. We have Deaf Ministries Coordinators in 23 state / district offices. Our Annual National Deaf Evangelism Conferenceis the highlight of the year and many deaf and hard of hearing have received the Holy Spirit at these conferences. We are making an impact around the world, especially in Australia, Canada and the Pacific (Guam). We have made inroads in Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic through our deaf ministers’ efforts! Rev. Wesley Swanson helped start Deaf Leadership seminars in 2010 with Rev. Ernie Murillo. Presently, we have over thirteen licensed deaf ministers and one with a Christian worker license. Our goal is to reach the deaf population of the United States and Canada with the beautiful gospel of Jesus Christ in Sign Language. There are over 34 million deaf and hard of hearing people in the U.S.

Rev. Wesley Swanson is a licensed minister who has a master’s degree in vocational rehabilitation counseling and works as a vocational rehabilitation counselor and unit program specialist for the state of Texas. He pastors a deaf congregation—First Church Deaf Outreach Church—in Pearland, Texas. He also evangelizes and serves as the South Texas Deaf Ministry Coordinator. ART WILSON

Art Wilson, Is the pastor of The International Church of Metro Detroit and he serves as Chaplin at the United Nations. In 2016 he was appointed a Goodwill Ambassador and Special Envoy to the United Nations.

    BENJIE TERRIBLE

Benjie Terrible is Filipino, born in Tanauan, Batangas Philippines. As a young man he became an alcoholic, a drug user, and a fraternity leader. He was saved in February, 1992 when a sister named Julie, who was saved under the ministry of Pastor Paul Graham in Montreal, Canada, came home to the Philippines and witnessed to him about Jesus. Jesus delivered Bro. Terrible, and changed his life. In 1993 he and Julie were married and now have two daughters. He relocated to Montreal in 1994 and is now serving as the Assistant Pastor for Pastor Graham. The Terrible’s recently started another church in Montreal called NDG and are having multicultural services on Sunday afternoon. In addition, they have now started another Filipino daughter church. Bro. Terrible serves as the Children’s Ministry Director for Quebec District and the National Filipino Evangelism Ministry Coordinator for UPCI Multicultural Ministries.

    STAN AND CYNTHIA WILT

Stan and Cynthia Wilt are appointed Multicultural Missionaries to our Native American Population in the United States and Canada.  With over 7 million souls, 564 Tribes, over 350 reservations and more than 200 Native Languages the task seems overwhelming.  There is a strong determination that no Tribe should ever be left behind. The scope of work that Bro. and Sis. Wilt are involved with finds them assisting Pastors who have a desire to minister to and among the Native American in the surrounding community or on a nearby Reservation.  They  assist in the founding of daughter works by implementing the A.C.T.S. Programs, Celebrate Recovery, training potential pastors and teaching the non-native how to work among these Noble People.  It is vital that after starting a work a Native American be trained to lead the congregation.  Our programs are successfully operating on 7 reservations representing 11 daughter works and preaching points

The task is great and the cost of involvement is high, but when a compassionate church with burden and vision partners with a preacher who will go and a God who gives great victory, then overwhelming revival is the result.

  • JOHN AND DEBORAH WOLFRAM

John and Deborah Wolfram graduated from Western Apostolic Bible College in June of 1979 and were married a few days later.  They evangelized throughout North America and were appointed Christmas For Christ evangelists, before taking their first pastorate in Wausau, Wisconsin in July 1979.  In the spring of 1983 they were appointed as career missionaries and served in the islands of Polynesia, the Philippines, Hawaii, and Vietnam.  In 1996 they were appointed as the Field Superintendent of Micronesia and took the pastorate of Pacific Revival Center in Guam.  In January 2000 they resigned from Global Missions and took the pastorate of New Life in Albany, Georgia.  In 2005 they returned to the mission field on an AIM appointment, serving as President of ACTS Bible school in Manila, Philippines and continuing their ministry in Vietnam.  In 2014 the Wolfram’s were appointed as the North American Vietnamese Coordinator with Multicultural Ministries.  The Wolframs are still active in their ministry to the nation of Vietnam and recently built a Bible School in memory of five Navy teammates and three high school friends who died in the Vietnam War.

    MULTICULTURAL MINISTRIES

“The MULTICULTURAL Connection” with MCM Director, Brocc Chavis and guests discussing various topics relating to ministry in an increasingly multicultural environment.

    PODCAST

  • Multicultural Ministries would like to thank UPCI Ladies Ministries and UPCI Youth

Ministries for their kind allocations in support of the Multicultural Summit.

Multicultural Ministries would like to thank UPCI North American Missions, Spanish

Evangelism Ministry, and Building the Bridge Ministries for their participation in the

    Multicultural Summit.

Multicultural Ministries would like to share its gratitude for the ongoing daily work

of the Multicultural Ministries Ministry Directors for their ongoing service and labor

of love. The enormity of their sacrifices cannot be measured, and we cannot thank

them enough for carrying the burden of reaching every culture in North America.

Multicultural Ministries would like to thank our District Multicultural Ministries

Coordinators for their service in promoting MCM and coordinating the All Nations

Sunday campaigns in their local districts.

Multicultural Ministries would like to thank our team of MCM Ambassadors for their

high level of financial support, and personal investment into the future of MCM. This

conference was made possible in large part due to their monthly support.

Multicultural Ministries would like to acknowledge the efforts, investments, and

many sacrifices of the previous MCM Directors. Don Hanscom served as the director

of MCM for almost 22 years, and is largely responsible in many respects for MCM

being in existence today. He and his wife, Saundra, made many sacrifices to see this

ministry thrive and survive. Dan Scott was the first MCM Director under then Home

Missions Division leader, Jack Cunningham, and we honor him for his investment.

Multicultural Ministries would like to honor Errin Bryant, whose investments of

service into MCM go back more than 20 years. He has served and supported this

ministry through much change and transition, and is worthy of our thanks.

Multicultural Ministries would like to honor our General Superintendent, Bishop

David Bernard, for his unflinching and unreserved support of Multicultural Ministries.

As MCM is positioned as a part of the office of Church Advancement, we report

directly to Bishop Bernard. It is a great joy to serve a leader who believes in what

we are doing and shows his full support.
