To celebrate and honour social enterprise in Cumbria, an awards ceremony is to be held at
the Cumbria Social Enterprise Partnership (CSEP) Conference on 8th March 2018.

The 4 Categories for the awards are as follows:
1. Social Enterprise of the Year
2. New Social Enterprise of the Year
3. Community Enterprise of the Year
4. Social Entrepreneur of the Year
Nominations for Categories 1-3 can be made either by the social enterprise themselves or by a third party and applications can be submitted for more than one category, if the criteria is met.
Nominations for Category 4 need to be made by someone other than the nominee, either someone from within their organisation or someone who knows of the person’s work, for
example either as a colleague or customer/beneficiary.

CATEGORY 1 : EXISTING SOCIAL ENTERPRISE OF THE YEAR
Winner: £750 Runner-up: £250
CRITERIA FOR THIS AWARD:
An established business, trading for 3 years+ - show us why your business is ahead of
all the rest. You should tell us what you have done, where and with whom. For example:
Developed and implemented a strategy that has resulted in a strong brand and
high increases in turnover and profits;
Delivered on your social aims with clear proof to demonstrate this;
Improved your market share;
Worked in a successful partnership;
Obtained a relevant quality mark/quality standard;
Continued a programme of product/service development;
Invested in staff through training and built a successful team;
Impacted positively on the local community through job creation and community
involvement.

advertising/promotional material or membership stats, (%) increase in business, etc.
CATEGORY 2 : NEW SOCIAL ENTERPRISE OF THE YEAR
Winner: £750 Runner-up: £250
CRITERIA FOR THIS AWARD:
You will have been trading for less than 3 years - show us why your new business
shines out from the rest. You should tell us what you have done where and with whom.
For example, have you done any of the following:
Developed and implemented a strategy which has the potential to result in a
strong brand or successful forecasts on turnover and profits;
Developed a clear monitoring system to provide evidence that you are working
towards delivering on your social aims;
Identified your market and are aiming to take a stake in/improve your market
share;
Policies and standards in place to ensure customer satisfaction;
Plans for working in partnership;
Invested in staff through training and built a successful team;
Positive impact on the local community through job creation and community
involvement.

CATEGORY 3 : COMMUNITY ENTERPRISE OF THE YEAR
Winner: £750 Runner-up: £250
CRITERIA FOR THIS AWARD:
You should be community based, owned and managed. You must be able to
demonstrate that you are:
Engaged in the economic, environmental and social regeneration of a defined
area -
setting up/running an mix of services or facilities to meet your community needs.
Independent, self-sufficient or aiming for self sufficiency – achieving or working
towards sustainable change. Also aiming to reduce dependence on grant-aid in the
long term by building up trading operations, contract income or income-earning
asset base.
Community based, owned and managed - community enterprises are driven by
and accountable to their community in various ways. Demonstrate the ways in
which your community enterprise involves local people in your work and
organisation’s goals.
Actively involved in partnerships and alliances between the community,
voluntary, private and public sectors.

CATEGORY 4 : SOCIAL ENTREPRENEUR OF THE YEAR
Winner: £750 * Runner-up: £250 *
CRITERIA FOR THIS AWARD:
Your need to tell us why this person should win the award and what makes them
special. In particular the contribution they have made either to an individual social
enterprise, community or to the sector as a whole. You should also state in what
capacity you know the nominee.
NB: Please attach any other supporting evidence ie. press cuttings,
advertising/promotional material or membership stats, (%) increase in business, etc.
* The award prize will be given to the organisation that the winner works for or is involved with
and not the individual.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Final entries, in the form of an evidenced based report on the Application Form
accompanying this pack, plus supporting evidence must be received on or before
the deadline of 12 noon on Thursday, 22nd
February 2018.
Social enterprises may enter one or more of Categories 1-3 if they meet the criteria,
but a separate application for each award with supporting documents must be sent
for each category entered as extra evidence.
The Judges’ decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into.
Entries must be submitted as a word or .pdf document and sent via email to

Your entry will be acknowledged by e-mail.
The Winner and Runners-up of each category will be announced during the Awards
Ceremony at the CSEP Conference on 8th
March 2018 and will published on the CSEP
website. Under no circumstances will Winners’ details be disclosed before that time.
JUDGING PROCESS
The judging panel will be made up of a cross section of experienced people from
the Social Enterprise sector.
The judges will meet to discuss the entries and collectively decide the winners for
each category.
The judges will consider each entry on presentation and content in relation to
criteria.
The judges may decide that site visits are required to reach a final decision.
The results will be announced at the CSEP Conference on Thursday, 8th March
2018.
