Term 3, week 1

A farewell note from Mrs Nash ... It is with mixed emotions that I write this today.

An opportunity, one of those one-chance-only kinds, one where you get to decide almost instantly, came up for me unexpectedly in the last days of Term Two. I am honoured to have been considered for and then offered a promotion to a very challenging position of Education Advisor working across a number of schools in the region for the next six months. My trepidation for this challenge, no let’s call it adventure, is currently overshadowed by the need to say goodbye to Yandina, at least for the next six months.

Perhaps, Yandina will be of the schools I visit occasionally in this role. None-the-less I will miss the truly wonderful, positive, caring learning environment that is Yandina State School. I won’t list the many people and other things that I will miss as it would fill this page.

But, most of all I will miss the amazing students that I am lucky enough to work with here, and especially the Year Six leadership team that have accepted every challenge I have thrown at them this year. Every time they take on a responsibility, I have pushed on a new one. We were just starting to build our own mountain to climb. However, I definitely will not miss their Graduation this year! I am trusting them to continue to grow with the support of Mr Jenkinson and Mrs Bambrick.

Thank you, Mr J for agreeing to fill my shoes!

Curriculum News is now yours. Remember kids, the show doesn’t start until you jump!

Welcome back everyone. I trust you’ve all had an enjoyable break with

your family and your child/ren has had time to recharge their batteries for another exciting term.

This term sees some changes within the school to our staffing

Changes to staff at Yandina State School

Congratulations to Mrs Cathy Nash – Mrs Nash has accepted an opportunity to work with the

Regional Success Team Project as a PEA-AC for the remainder of the year. This is a fantastic opportunity for Cathy and I am

very proud and excited for her. Cathy was in the school for the first few days of the term doing a hand over with Mr Jason

Jenkinson who will now move to the acting HOC role. I wish Cathy all the success in her new role and she will be greatly

missed.

Mr Jason Jenkinson will move into the HOC role from the Year 6 class for the remainder of the year. I look forward to working

with Jason in this role. Mrs Julie Bambrick has been contracted onto the Year 6 class for this period of time. Julie has worked in

school on Year 4 earlier this year and I know she will be successful in this role.

Ms Kathy Gilmore will replace Mrs Bambrick who has worked with Mr Brett Kennedy for a one day a week contract until Week

6 of this term.

Prep Enrolments are being taken now!

If you have a child or have friends who have children who are eligible for Prep in 2016 please contact the school or visit the

school website for enrolment information.

Have a great week

NOTICE TO PARENTS/CAREGIVERS: Please see School Opinion Survey below. The survey will take less

than 10 minutes of your time, which will in turn provide vital information to the Department of Education and Training on how

we can improve our school. For your ease and convenience, we have set up 3 work stations in the administration block for you to

complete the Survey or you can choose to do it at home.

We thank you for your support and time.

School Disco 2015

Disco Thanks to everyone who attended the disco. I hope you had as much fun as we did! A special shout-out to the P&C team together with the parent volunteers and teachers—we couldn’t have done it without you. Our discos are proving to be one the most successful forms of fundraising for our school—uniting the community. Also a thanks for Smithy’s Mechanical who generously sponsored the BBQ for the disco.

Pie Drive Next week we will be sending home pie drive order forms. In conjunction with Pete’s Village Bakery, we will be offering an assortment of pies and baked goods, at an affordable cost. Please share your order forms with family and friends.

Thanks—Courtney

Harmony Forest Project

Harmony Forest project is well underway with stage 1 half finished. Later this term, the second

part of stage 1 will involve planting 1,300 native plant species that will be planted by students and

the local community.

Term 2 Update

The students scored an amazing 482 908 points during Term 2, bringing

the overall total to 678 639 points. A number of students received silver

medal certificates throughout the term (1000 points = 1 bronze

certificate, 5 bronze = 1 silver). Originally I had set the bar at 1 000 000

points by the end of the year, well I think we will smash that during

Term 3.

Hi Yandina State School ,

I have been a muso and a school teacher in WA for many years and I’ve just moved to the beautiful Sunshine Coast and I am keen to get some guitar lessons happening at Yandina State School.

I aim at creating an atmosphere of joy for music and use music to help children express themselves and boost their self-esteem.

For Semester 2 I am proposing that I teach in groups of 2 and 3 and then re-group according to motivation for the final term. We may even get some acoustic groups happening.

Eventually, if there is enough interest I would like to form young bands and encourage performance and song writing skills. At my last school in Margaret River, as a music specialist and private tutor, we created over 35 young rock bands (over a 10 year period) that performed, recorded and created their own CDs. Most bands had keyboards, bass, drums and vocals. I have created rock bands for children as young as 9.

I have an introductory fee of $12 per lesson for the term (blocks of 10 lessons) and ask that this be paid at the beginning of the term.

The lessons will be held each Wednesday for 30 minutes after lunch.

Thanks
