PRINCIPALS BLOG

Dear Parents and Friends,

There seems to be a lot of comings and goings with a lot of farewelling and

welcoming back of students! This week it was time to farewell all of our nervous, yet

very excited Grade 5/6 students off on their camp, Camp Campaspe at Kyneton.

Whilst the weather is not going to be as warm as the weather experienced by the

grade 3/4’s on their camp last week, I’m sure the 5/6 students will barely notice.

They will be too busy engaged in activities including bush walking, the flying fox and

giant swing, challenge activities, low ropes and climbing.

Ferny Creek Music program

Last week at assembly we were entertained by the performances of some of our

talented students. I have been very impressed by the impressive music program

offered here at Ferny Creek PS. I often pop into classrooms during the day as I enjoy

seeing and experiencing what our students are learning. I must admit one of my

favourites is visiting the music program in Melody’s classroom. Students are also

able to take advantage of the opportunity to learn almost any instrument through

the private lessons or participate in one of the bands offered by Dean our musician

extraordinaire! Ferny Creek Primary School is well known in the area for its extensive

music program. Dean has assured me that there will be more opportunities to hear

from our talented music students at future assemblies. Meanwhile, thank you to the

students who performed last week, you were fabulous!

No Assembly

Just a reminder that there will be no assembly this Friday 16th March due to the

Grade 5/6’s being on camp.

Easter Hat Parade

Well it is that time of the year again to get crafty and imaginative. The Easter Hat

Parade is just a few weeks away. I hear that the Easter Hat parade at Ferny Creek PS

is quite an occasion! As the final week of term is a short week, with Friday being

‘Good Friday’, we will be holding the Easter hat Parade at the final assembly on the

last day of term, Thursday 29th March at 9am.

Our Amazing Swimmers

Last week four of our swimmers, Ned, Luca, Blair and Oliver participated in several

events at the district finals. At the last minute, Oliver was unable to swim in the relay

event. The team faced having to forfeit the event. However, the team was able to

recruit one of their footy club mates, Grace from Kallista PS. Through impressive

teamwork they swam their way to the Regional Finals by winning their event.

Unfortunately, though, the regional Event is being held this Friday whilst the boys

are on camp so they will miss the opportunity to compete. Nevertheless

congratulations boys and Grace on your amazing efforts in the individual and relay

events.

Netball Court Construction

Although all seems quiet on the construction front there is still a lot happening

behind the scenes. We will be having fortnightly meetings with the Architects,

Construction Company, DET representative and ourselves to receive regular updates

and to ensure that the building works progress smoothly.

The court has been marked as to where the poles are going to go to support the

roof. The roof is currently being constructed off site. We do envisage that there will

be onsite activity happening next week!

The dilapidation photos have also been taken of the oval to ensure that it will be

restored to its former glory. Unfortunately, the oval provides the only point of access

for the machinery to enter the construction site. However, we have been assured by

the construction company, that trucks and machinery will enter around the side of

the oval to minimize the impact to the oval area and will only enter during out of

school hours. Just a big reminder to all the students and the community not to go

within the fencing area of the construction site.

Bush Dance

The annual bush dance that we hold together with Mt Dandenong Primary is

creeping closer! Please keep the evening of 24th March free for the Bush Dance.

There will be food and drinks available to purchase on the evening (No BYO). The

entertainment will again be provided by the fabulous bush music group ‘Eat Ya

Greens’. Please note that there is a change of venue this year with the dance to be

held at the Olinda Hall (next to the Olinda Footy Club). It commences at 6pm till 10

pm.

As this is also a fundraising event we would greatly appreciate your support. Please

sign up to the roster placed outside the office indicating where you may be able to

help for an hour or two. It is difficult to hold these community events without your

support.
