Principal’s Post
Yesterday I attended the swimming carnival and what a wonderful day it was to see all our students participate in races or water confidence activities. A huge thank you to Miss Fiona Smith for her organisation, to the staff for giving it a team effort and to our parent/carer time keepers. I was extremely proud of our students and the way they represented LEPS in a public setting. Tomorrow is our Leadership Induction and swimming awards assembly. I am looking forward to getting to know our school leaders and working with them throughout the year. I also acknowledge that if your child did not receive a badge, they are no less of a leader at LEPS. To be a truly authentic leader a ‘badge’ does not make a difference, it is about who your child is as a person and how they contribute to others and the school community. Looking forward to our ‘Meet the Teacher’ BBQ next Tuesday at 4:30pm and a big thank you to our P & C for supporting this. Mrs Nic Williams Principal

Combined Leaders’ Induction Ceremony
and
Presentation of Swimming Awards 2019
Starting at 10:00am sharp in the hall on Thursday, 14 February 2019, there will be a combined assembly to acknowledge our new school leaders and celebrate student achievement at the Swimming Carnival. Students who have been elected as School Captains, House Captains, Library Mentors, Technocats and SRC representatives will be presented with their badges. This will be followed by the swimming awards. On completion of the combined assembly, student leaders and their family members are invited to morning tea outside the kindergarten rooms. Active Kids & Creative Kids Program
Active Kids and Creative Kids are programs designed to encourage more children to participate in sport, active recreation and creative and cultural activities. Each year, parents, guardians and carers can receive a $100 voucher to go towards both creative and physical activities for school aged children. That’s $200 worth of savings per year for each child. A Creative Kids voucher will help parents to cover some of the registration, participation and tuition costs on activities such as singing, drama, coding, languages, music, writing, drawing and photography. The Active Kids voucher can be used on sports, fitness and physical activities for registration, participation and membership costs. The vouchers can be used once with an approved provider. To find out more, parents need to visit service.nsw.gov.au

Library News Classes have jumped straight into the strong literacy lessons of our Library programs, with all classes commencing borrowing this week. In Library, students learn to connect with stories and delve more deeply into the meanings of the text. Children also develop strategies in planning ideas and crafting writing. Library borrowing We encourage children from Kindergarten to Year 6 to develop and extend their love of reading by borrowing a book during their library lesson. Please assist your child in packing a library bag on their library day and caring for and returning library books. Library Days: Monday: 5M, 4/5S, KJ, KT Tuesday: MCE, MCG, K/1Z, KP Wednesday: 3/4C, 3/4M, 1B, 1/2R Thursday: 5/6T, 3/4S, 6C Friday: 2S ‘Library Lovers’ Day’ – Thursday 14 February 2019. To celebrate ‘Library Lovers’ Day’, children will be able to select from our specially wrapped up books for ‘lucky-dip’ borrowing. These books can’t wait for their readers on the 14th February! Book Club Book Club’s Issue 1 catalogue will arrive home this week. Book Club is an optional bookshop. Purchases made through Book Club financially support our school library, through the Scholastic Rewards program. In this program, 20% of a sale becomes points of that value, which is used for purchasing quality books for student borrowing. Orders for Book Club Issue 1 will close on Wednesday 6 March, 2019.
AFL Visit Last week 4 classes were lucky enough to have the Melbourne Demons come and visit and talk about leadership and what it is to be a good leader both on and off the field. They shared their stories about how they got into football and where they came from. The messages they shared with us about leadership were; ‘everyone can be a leader’ ‘you can lead in lots of ways’ and ‘to be a good leader you need to learn to be a communicator, negotiator and team player’

Learning Matters! 6C have been making the most of the different types of thinkers we have in our room, by working in teams to complete problem solving tasks in Maths. Did you know that in the classroom and beyond, the more different the team members, the more creative is the result of thinking and brainstorming?
