As we enter the month of April, EGHS is a busy place. We have students involved in multiple ac- tivities including spring sports, practicing for spring concerts, we have the spring musical, and countless other student activities. We have the Jr./Sr. Prom April 22 with the grand march and the post prom the same day. In addition, this is still an important time for students to continue to focus and do their best in their classes. There will be the sec- ond round of ISTEP+ testing over the coming weeks as well. We will also have all AP tests during the month of May, as well as the ECA test. We will send home more information as those testing win- dows get closer. I encourage everyone to take a moment and look through this issue of the Thunderbird Beat and see all the exciting things happening at EGHS. Our stu- dents work hard, give back to our community, and strive to do their best. Please feel free to contact me if you ever have any questions or concerns. Thunderbird Honor Society

Individual Service Projects are Finished! The Eastern Greene High School Thunderbird Honor Society members have been busy

this year. Members are required to complete an Individual Service Project, donating at

least four hours of work to a cause matching their own talents and interests. Members are

encouraged to find a need and meet it. Different projects from this year include volunteer-

ing to tutor students with school subjects and musical instruments, volunteering with a

gymnastics clinic, assisting a local family after a house fire, helping to make pizzas with the

Owensburg Delts, working concessions for the athletic department, volunteering at Craig

Family Camp Christmas event, assisting with 8th Grade Parent Night, volunteering with

Cincinnati Christian Church’s pizza fundraiser, raising awareness for suicide prevention,

filling needs through the Build-a-Basket project, volunteering for the Good News Club in

the elementary, and helping with the Academic Honor Jacket ceremony. Through these

projects, THS collectively volunteered 133.5 service hours in our community. Kudos to the

THS members!

Group Project #3 Our third group project, organized by vice president Sydnee Skinner, al-

lowed for us to donate 96 total hours to the Solsberry Christian Church.

We assisted with landscaping needs outside of the building, and we also

tested our creativity as we helped make the sets for their upcoming summer VBS. According

to Chad Stowers, the THS members’ help saved the Solsberry folks about four weeks worth

It’s Finally Time for Popcorn!!! The annual Inga’s Popcorn fundraiser officially begins on April 13, 2017. Each THS mem-

ber will be selling the sweet treat. Orders are due back to us by May 1. Emma Greves,

THS secretary, will then compile all of the orders and send them off to Inga’s where she

will make the popcorn fresh for us. We will have the tubs back here and ready to deliver

the week of May 8, which is right in time for Mother’s Day. All of our proceeds go to the

Student Activities Fund, and we appreciate all of the community support for this project.

Elisabeth Sturgis is our Technology Integration Specialist at Eastern Greene Schools. Elisa-

beth does an amazing job helping our teachers integrate technology into the classroom, as

well as work with students on various projects throughout the school year. She has a tech

page that has a lot of supplementary web based games and programs on her site that your

student can use at home to practice by grade or by subject. She also has a fantastic site for

parents wanting to learn more about Digital Citizenship for their children and ways to talk

to them about their online behavior.
