From the Principals Desk
We are at the end of week 3 already. This term is flying by, with no
sign of slowing down at all. On Monday, Mrs Gasparin and Ms Cook
attended our cluster moderation day. This was a great opportunity
to share an assessment piece that they have completed with other
teachers in the area. It is an opportunity to ensure we have
consistent marking with all other schools.
We are in the process of looking at possible destinations for our end
of year excursion. Generally this excursion is further afield and is an
exciting and fun-filled day that occurs towards the end of the term.
P-2 News
Thank you to all of the parents and special guests who were in
attendance for the P-2 performance of The Gruffalo last Friday. They
started learning the script last term and had a couple of run throughs
with action in the week leading up to the performance. I hope
everyone enjoyed the performance. We always like it when parents
are part of their learning.
While the weather has been warm we have been making the most of
this weather to do some of our lessons outside. From writing our
CVC or spelling words in the sand with sticks, to collecting materials
to represent numerals, the students have relished the fresh air and
outdoor environment to learn in.
Grillex Competition
Thulimbah State School has entered the Grillex School Makeover
competition where the school could win $10,000. To increase our
chances of winning this great prize we need as many votes as we can
get. This competition is open until November. We are looking to add
tables and chairs, benches and a drinking fountain to the front area
of the school, just outside the Happy Feet room to use as an outdoor
learning space, plus a space for families to gather and chat while
waiting for school pickup. A link has been shared on our school P&C
Facebook page and our School Facebook page as well.
Homework Club
Homework club will be on every Monday afternoon for the rest of
this term. Lyndell Brown, from Granite Belt Neighbourhood Centre
will be running this club with the support of parents who attend with
their children. It is a great opportunity to work through yours childs’
homework together and get support from Lyndell if required. A light
afternoon tea will be provided for the students before they
commence. Homework club will run from 3-4pm. If your child has
completed their homework before 4pm you are welcome to leave at
an earlier time. Due to Lyndell being the only adult person there, it is
a requirement that parents stay as well to help support their
children. Please inform the school if you intend to take part in their
homework club via responding to the Facebook event, letting Mrs
Harvey know or by sending a text to the school.

Water Collection
Today each family was given another lot of water to take home and
use. We will have another couple of collection afternoons before
the end of the year as well. If you are needing more drinking water
before our deliveries then please contact H2O Central, Granite belt
Drought Assist, and they will be able to help you out. They are
located at 2 Walsh Drive.
Swimming
If you have yet to return your swimming permission note then
please do so by Monday. Students will be transported to WIRAC in
Warwick, on Tuesday 5th and Wednesday 6th November. A reminder
will be send home on Monday 4th with what your child should have
with them for the day.
Ready Reading Program
Next Tuesday or Wednesday the P-2 teacher aides will be attending
a Ready Reading Program. This is to provide strategies to assist
students who are in the beginning stages of reading. Mrs Harvey will
be attending a session for educators on Tuesday afternoon as well.
With reading still our whole school priority we are always looking for
ways to upskill staff in this area.
P&C News
SAVE THE DATE: FRIDAY 8TH NOVEMBER
The students voted and it was decided that we would hold a disco
on Friday 8th November from 5-7pm.
While the students are dancing the evening away it is a great
opportunity for the families to catch up and have a chat. This is
great for the health and wellbeing of all. A dinner will be available to
purchase also. Please keep an eye out for further information next
week.
Drought Assistance
Vinnies can assist families impacted by drought and/or bush-fire for
example by filling their water tanks, providing food or other

3 - 6 News
Another busy week has flown by. I hope the students enjoyed their
Pupil Free Day on Monday. There was moderation for teachers at
the State School on Monday. We have walked away with a clearer
picture of the expectations of assessment across the Granite Belt.
We continue to look at our History units and Technology units this
week. Our Maths rotations started again with the focus on Chance
and Probability.
We have continued to work on our Poetry this term. Today we had
some creative and enthusiastic presentations this morning of the
poetry recitals. Some of our Year 3 students, Kiara and Madison
were extremely brave and expressive in their recital. Macy and
Matty T recited a very challenging poem in front of the whole class
which was entertaining!
We have looked at adding alliteration and similes in our poetry
writing. Here are some examples below:

With his best mate.
