WENDY STERLINGSr Director: Global Laboratories and EM Customer Enabling Team

W endy Sterling is the Sr Director over Celanese Global Laboratories and Customer Enabling Team. She

started with Celanese directly from University Recruiting to a rotational program, through which she opted to work in New Product Development. This fast paced role supported manufacturing in the compounding and production of new products and diverse polymers. For the next 17 years, Wendy held various roles in Manufacturing including progression to a Steff Engineer, Six Sigma Blackbelt, QC lab leader, and Quality. Then, when the large R&D organization relocated to Florence KY in 2005, Wendy jumped to the T&I function leading the high performance R&D lab teams. This scope was increased to include all the Florence labs (manufacturing and R&D), then to EM Global, which included designing and implementing a brand new customer solution center in Shanghai. With continued success of the lab organization,

the role scope was again increased In 2015 to include leadership of labs across all Celanese divisions (Emulsions, Chemicals, Cellulose Acetate in addition to EM). Wendy is in her 33rd year of a diverse and exciting career path all with Celanese, she has a MS in ChE (Brooklyn Polytechnic Univ), and dual BS degrees in ChE (Brooklyn Poly) and Chemistry (SUNY Oneonta).

On a personal note, Wendy is the mother of 4 wonderful sons. She enjoys nature and wildlife, and enjoys traveling to less traveled places. Other interests include theatre, music, opera, and sports. She recently successfully crossed swimming with whale sharks off her bucket list, and is looking forward to her next adventure. She is a strong supporter in and out of work for the importance of diversity, acceptance, and inclusion in all aspects of life.

ABOUTFLORENCE, KENTUCKY& Surrounding Areas

F lorence is located in Northern

Kentucky, roughly 12 miles south of

downtown Cincinnati and 88 miles

from Louisville. The proximity to Cincinnati

ensures a host of metropolitan amenities

and activities while still providing a rural

destination with a wealth of recreational

opportunities, including golf at Boonelink

Golf Course, swimming at the Florence

Family Aquatic Center and skating and

biking at the local skate park.

Home to Florence Nature Park and the minor

league baseball team, the Florence Freedom,

the area is perfect for those wanting a taste of

rural Kentucky. Florence is located in eastern

Boone County and the Boone County Fair

provides fun for the entire family each

August. The Greater Cincinnati/Northern

Kentucky International airport (CVG) is

located in Boone County and there are three

Interstate systems and 42 miles of Ohio River

frontage that accessibly connect the County

to the mid-west, south and eastern portions

of the United States.

Florence is well known in surrounding cities

for a water tower visible from the interstate

that reads "Florence Y'all." Originally the

tower advertised the up-and-coming

Florence Mall, but because the mall was

not yet built, the tower violated highway

regulations. Forced to change it within a

short deadline (and rather than repainting

the entire tower), they decided to simply

changed the "M" to a "Y". The intent was to

change it back when the mall was built, but

the local residents liked the tower's new

proclamation, so they left it as it was.
