Three day Ebru “Water Marbling” workshop by Turkish artist Mrs. Suna Kocal, November 29th -‐ December 1st, 2015: College of Art and Design, under the direct supervision of Dr. Janon kadhim, Dean of CAD, in collaboration with the Turkish Embassy organized a 3 day workshop on the art of Ebru “water marbling” for all CAD students in all programs. The workshop was conducted by Turkish artist Mrs. Suna Kocal who is a well-‐known artist specializing in this very special type of traditional Turkish art that has been recently recognized by the UNESCO as a world heritage art form. The workshop which was held for 3 days engaged all CAD students who were divided into groups over the 3 days to ensure all had an opportunity to participate in this great activity. Ms. Kocal gave a short introduction to the history of this type of art and demonstrated the various styles and techniques. She then allowed all students to have a hands-‐on experience practicing the technique. The workshop was very popular with students and some even returned on the following days to experiment some more.
