Introduction An administrator at the Chapel Hill-Chauncy Hall
School, Cory Olcott enjoys various outdoor activities in his spare time. Among his active pursuits, Cory Olcott enjoys running. While running can be competitive, it also can be a way to explore new places and relieve stress. Here are three ways to improve your running experience.
1. Keep hydrated. Running without enough water can quickly affect performance and make it difficult to keep pace. Besides making the heart work harder and making the blood thicker, being dehydrated can invite a wave of other issues. Always keep a bottle of water handy when venturing out.
Become a Better Runner 2. Get the right pair of shoes. When the treads
on a pair of running shoes start to wear down and become smooth, it's time to invest in a new pair. As a rule of thumb, it's good to replace running shoes after 300 miles to 500 miles of wear on average.
3. Maintain a healthy diet. Especially dangerous for runners, poor nutrition can lead to lingering injuries, poor performance, and illnesses that become chronic. Foods like brown rice, nuts, seeds and quinoa are good for the body and decrease inflammation, which makes it easier to push yourself during exercise.
