GUNA YIN

This was the first image that I found.

After doing further research, I found that this is a dance.

The Thousand Handsof Limitless Compassion or more commonly know as Thousand-Hand Guan Yin

GUNA YIN

• Named by Buddhists as the Goddess of Mercy

• ‘Her name is short for Guan Shi Yin. Guan means to observe; Shi means the world; Yin means sounds, specifically sounds of those who suffer.’

• ‘The thousand hands of this bodhisattva represent Guan Yin's many abilities to render assistance.’

• Bodhisattva: Bodhi means wisdom or enlightenment; sattva means being or essence

• Their dream is to creates a special art which delights audiences, purifies the soul with Truth, Honesty and Virtue, encourage people by strong will, and delivers friendship with sincerity.

PATHOS

• I think that this film and these photos has pathos, because all of this group is impaired in some way, in this particular instance they cannot hear but others cannot see or are physically impaired, so you feel proud that they can accomplish something that most average people can’t. They are showing the world that if you try you will gain for experience every time.

Interesting fact:

You might not have notice but each hand has an eye on it this represents the thousand eye of Guan Yin with which she watches over the hurt and impaired.  

AUDIENCEEveryone I think:

•To the impaired to show that you can do things not even average humans can.

•To show others that yes they are handicapped but that makes them no less of a person than you or I.

•Most of all to the future generations not to give up and that not matter what barriers lie in your way you can find a way to over come them.

COMPOSITION

• I could find almost everyone of these if I looked in the film, a few that stand out are:

• Color

• They use bright colors to draw the eyes inward and they use different color light to create an affect of changing shape and form as she has been said to do.

• Motion

• That is about everything in this piece for the hands draw you inward but keep your attention at the same time.

• Allusion

• This dance is to show the many hands of Guna Yin in one person.

• How does this make you feel?

• What was the first thing you noticed about this picture or the film?

• Did it surprise you that they are all hearing impaired?

MY COMMENTS

• I feel that this group of people show that if you set your mind and heart on something then it will be accomplished.

• The first thing that I saw were all the hands and the fact that each finger had its own talon point on it. These point help to draw the eye to the hands and make the movement look more graceful.

• Yes, I have average to better hearing and I couldn’t keep in sync with that fast beat, I don’t know how they can. It makes the piece much more powerful.
