SituationThorpe Manor is the principal house in the delightful hamlet of Thorpe Mandeville on theNorthamptonshire/Oxfordshire borders, located approximately 6 miles to the east ofBanbury in rolling countryside dotted with small villages. Thorpe ManorThorpe Manor is situated behind a high, stone wall withdouble wooden gates with fine pillars and orb finials. To the front of the house is a large, gravelled parking areawith lawns with further walling and wrought iron gates thatlead to the principal gardens on the south and east sidesof the manor house. The house, believed to be the work ofThomas Archer, was re-built in the 1770s and replaced The Old Manor House which was damaged in the Civil War.The southern elevation is particularly fine, ornamented withclassical pilasters, broken pediment and ornamentalembellishments with two fine magnolia bushes and a wideflagstone terrace.
