What will we do during our program?Games and Initiatives

Games and initiatives are fun, challenging, and inclusive group activities that establish a foundation of positive group culture and build community. The selection

of a specific game or initiative is very intentional and is customized to either address the overall goal(s) of the program or observable group dynamics.

What will we do during our program?Low Challenge Course

Low challenge (a.k.a. low ropes) course elements are adventurous group activities that build upon the learnings of games and initiatives by appropriately increasing

the physical, intellectual, and social challenges. Thompson Island has over 50 low challenge course elements to choose from. Similar to games and initiatives,

facilitators select the most appropriate elements based upon the goal(s), desired outcomes, and the emotional and physical readiness of the group.

What will we do during our program?High Challenge Course

High challenge (a.k.a. high ropes) course elements are adventurous group and/or individual challenges that (further) build upon the learnings of initiatives and low

challenge course elements. High challenge course elements are often presented as a chance for individuals and teams to ‘dig deeper’ and overcome obstacles through

tenacity, perseverance, and the support of their community. High elements are predetermined and selected by the client with help from TIOBEC program designers.

What will we do during our program?Reflection and Transference

Every Outward Bound course concludes with an opportunity to reflect on the experience. Reflection can be framed in many different forms; often this is

accomplished through open group conversation or quiet personal reflection. But no matter the technique, we feel that transference is the most important aspect of our

work. We strive to give participants an unforgettable experience that will enable them to transfer those unforgettable, and perhaps all together new feelings and

thoughts back to their schools, families, and communities.
