Thomas Spencer Monson

Who is He?

Thomas S. Monson is the president of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints

Growing Up

Thomas was born on August 21, 1927.

He grew up in a close family

He joined with the army as a young man, but was not able to serve in WWII, because the war ended shortly after his signing up.

He served in several church leadership positions, the first which was as a bishop at age 22.

Why do I Think of Him as a Promoter of Freedom?

Thomas S. Monson, as the leader of a religious faction in the United States, has a large influence over many people, extending beyond the borders of our country. With that influence, President Monson has been promoting good morals to the people. He has been inviting the people of our world to become better.Morals are what hold a society together. They are the mortar that severs to keep the blocks together.

Promoting Freedom

I consider charityor the pure love of Christto be the opposite of criticism and judging. In speaking of charity, I do not at this moment have in mind the relief of the suffering through the giving of our substance. That, of course, is necessary and proper. Tonight, however, I have in mind the charity that manifests itself when we are tolerant of others and lenient toward their actions, the kind of charity that forgives, the kind of charity that is patient.

What does that have to do with freedom?

When we, both as individuals and as a nation, do our best to forgive one another, not in the way that we support what they do, but as an individual, it will serve to no only strengthen ourselves, but will strengthen our nation as well.

How Does Forgiveness Strengthen?

Forgiveness strengthen us. How? Well, first off, forgiveness can limit the amount of hate we as a people hold towards each other. After we limit hate, we can then start to fix ourselves, by trying to earn trust from each other.
