Do we know what time it is? Since the Industrial Revolutions, keeping track of time has been vital to business. The factory blew the whistle so that everyone would know it was time. Time to start, time to break, time to quit. Now, the technology of computers can calculate time to milliseconds. For Christians time is important because God tells us to use each day as a direct gift. Psalm 90:12 says, “Teach us to number our days aright, so that we may gain a heart of wisdom.” To use the day as an opportunity to love is a joyous duty. Every follower of Jesus receives this daily gift. Each is required to account for the use of every moment. Are we making best use of our gift? Because keeping time is important, most of us wear either a watch or check the time using alarms on our smart phones or glancing at a wall clock. I know that you expect me to be aware of the clock on the sanctuary wall on Sunday. (Which reminds mewe need a wall clock in the chapel.) Do you have a favorite timepiece? Do you prefer traditional clock face or digital? I found the other day in my jewelry drawer a small collection old nonworking watches. A dozen watches, none working-well although they are each right twice a day. Perhaps that is indicative of how we unintentionally find ourselves operating. The Greek language gives us two different words for time. Chronos refers to the timepiece kind of time. Kairos refers to the time which is God’s right time. Many of us are overly focused on chronos, when God is calling us to kairos. We allow our focus to be on time spent instead of invested; we keep old watchesold habitsinstead of discarding with God’s help what actually hinders us from following Jesus in a timely way. The scriptures teach us that at the right time God sent Jesus in the flesh so that we could all benefit in this life-at this time-and in the future-in the life to come after earthly death. The right time gives us the loving mercy of Jesus now. Alleluia! What a wondrous gift the Holy One provides us in this time and in this place. Let us live in the fullness of kairos. Let us live in the power of the inexplicable time of God’s grace, mercy, and love. Let us live now for the present and the future! Let it be as God intends every day and in every way. Shalom, Pastor Pam Charge Conference Sunday, October 16 Join us after 10:45 a.m. worship for lunch and charge conference. Making Magnolia Blossom THIS Saturday, October 8 8 a.m.-Noon FUMC will join others in our community to make Magnolia blossom! The Columbia County Senior Meal Program purchased the old Mead- owbrook Lodge (600 Leila Street). Pastor Pam’s Ponderings. . . Do we know what time it is? Since the

Industrial Revolutions, keeping track of time has been vital to business.

The factory blew the whistle so that everyone

would know it was time. Time to start, time to

break, time to quit. Now, the technology of

computers can calculate time to milliseconds.

For Christians time is important because

God tells us to use each day as a direct gift. Psalm

90:12 says, “Teach us to number our days aright, so

that we may gain a heart of wisdom.” To use the

day as an opportunity to love is a joyous duty. Every follower of Jesus

receives this daily gift. Each is required to account for the use of every

moment. Are we making best use of our gift?

Because keeping time is important, most of us wear either a watch

or check the time using alarms on our smart phones or glancing at a wall

clock. I know that you expect me to be aware of the clock on the sanctuary

wall on Sunday. (Which reminds me—we need a wall clock in the chapel.)

Do you have a favorite timepiece? Do you prefer traditional clock

face or digital? I found the other day in my jewelry drawer a small

collection old nonworking watches. A dozen watches, none working-well

although they are each right twice a day.

Perhaps that is indicative of how we unintentionally find ourselves

operating. The Greek language gives us two different words for time.

Chronos refers to the timepiece kind of time. Kairos refers to the time

which is God’s right time. Many of us are overly focused on chronos,

when God is calling us to kairos. We allow our focus to be on time spent

instead of invested; we keep old watches—old habits—instead of

discarding with God’s help what actually hinders us from following Jesus

in a timely way.

The scriptures teach us that at the right time God sent Jesus in the

flesh so that we could all benefit in this life-at this time-and in the future-in

the life to come after earthly death. The right time gives us the loving

mercy of Jesus now. Alleluia! What a wondrous gift the Holy One

provides us in this time and in this place.

Let us live in the fullness of kairos. Let us live in the power of the

inexplicable time of God’s grace, mercy, and love. Let us live now for the

present and the future! Let it be as God intends every day and in every

way.

LIFETREE CAFÉ CUTTING

Tuesday, October 11, 2016 at 5:30 p.m.

The program, titled “Cutting: The Epidemic of Self-

Mutilation,” features filmed interviews with two individuals

who committed acts of self-harm including cutting and

burning.

“After a while it became a medicine for me,” says one of

the individuals, who describes cutting herself regularly for a

period of two years. “Whenever I wasn’t comprehending

something completely, or whenever I was in a daze from

depression, I would cut, and it would give me the medicine

I needed.”

During the program, participants will have an

opportunity to discuss emotional wounds they’ve

experienced in their own lives and how they’ve responded

to them.

Visit www.lifetreecafe.com for a complete look at this

month’s topics. Come and join the conversation—you will

be glad you did!

OUR SYMPATHY

Sympathy is extended to the family of Jennifer

Hubbard in the death of her sister-in-law Pat Hubbard.

Dear First United Methodist Church,

Thank you for providing the pre-game

meal for the Panther football team recently.

The players and coaches enjoyed the meal!

It is always appreciated when our commu-

nity supports the football program, and FUMC was

well represented with all of the wonderful

volunteers.

Thanks again!
