Foster Care Project Invites You to Become a Trained Volunteer

Coach Monitor Foster Care Project invites you to make a

difference in the life of a child in foster care and become a trained volunteer coach monitor. You’ll

help provide court-ordered supervised family visits so that children, removed from the care of their

parents, can visit their parents in a physically and emotionally safe setting filled with toys, games,

books and art materials. These visits are an essential service to increase the family’s chances for reunification and reduce the children’s anxiety while in out-of-home placement. Learn about the importance of visitation, the role of a coach-moni-

tor at the upcoming training April 12–13 in Scott Hall 5. Information = [email protected].

Join us on Sunday, April 14, 5:00–7:30 p.m., at Is-lamic Center of So. California, 434 S. Vermont Ave., Los Angeles for “Love & Compassion in Islam” with

Dr. Khaled Abou El Fadl, one of the most important and influen-tial Islamic thinkers in the modern age. An accomplished Islamic jurist and scholar, he is a professor at the UCLA School of Law, where he teaches Islamic law, immi-gration law, human

rights law, and international and national security law. As the most critical and powerful voice against puritanical and Wahhabi Islam today, he regularly appears on national and international television and radio, including CNN, NBC, PBS, NPR, and the Voice of America (broadcast throughout the Middle East). Please bring an open heart, a mind willing to listen and learn and a vegetarian dish to share in our potluck. For information contact Ada Ramirez at 626.583.2734 or [email protected].

Want to Mark a Special Day? For your birthday, anniversary, or in memory of a loved one, consider bringing the bread and wine up the aisle for communion at the 9:00 or 11:15 a.m. Sunday service. After offering these “ob-lations” to the priest at the altar, you stand in the circle with the other ministers for the Eucharistic prayer, receive communion, and then return to your seat. You may do this with a partner or be paired with someone else. To sign up or for more information, please contact Beverly Franco at 626.280.9048 or [email protected].
