A PAIR OF THIEVES BEGAN THEIR QUEST INEASY, A CITY KNOWN FOR keeping its owncounsel. They walked down the street,listened at the various shops, andstole what they could lay their handson.

THIS QUEST TO DEFEAT THE DARK LORD WASLED BY FENRIS TUSK, WHO had beenbanished from the shadows of the courtby his own kin and had now taken on anew name, Ath, the name of Lord of theCrimson Eagles. As a good citizen, hewas never violent and never fearful,

and lived by his status.

THE QUESTERS SOUGHT A LOST GRIMOIRE,WHICH had been stolen long ago. It wasa valuable and powerful item, which hadbeen used to destroy an entire army ofassassins.

THEY INTENDED TO TRAVEL QUICKLY, BUT,UNFORTUNATELY, they had lost their wayand so were unable to wait for anyone.

THEN, ON THE ROAD TOWARD LOD HERLEY,THEY ENCOUNTERED AN ELK. IT happened tobe grazing on a field of grain, and anelk tended by one of the villagers

became agitated. He dug in his side ofa field and began to rummage, so thathe was almost ready to rake the groundwith his powerful legs.

THE QUESTERS CROSSED INTO THE COUNTRYCALLED HAGEROBONOU, KNOWN FOR its tea,and there met a woman who seemed to berestless. She told the travellers thatshe was a middle-aged woman who hadcome to Lusin after her marriage andwas now living with her second husband.

THERE, IN HAGEROBONOU, THE DARK LORDFOUND THEM. HE was waiting for them ina dark, gloomy grove of trees. As theyapproached, he raised his hands andcast a spell.

THE DARK LORD CRUELLY bound thetravellers and drove them to theground. There he lay his magical swordand made them all to sit with theirheads at his feet.

DID THEIR QUEST FAIL BECAUSE THEQUESTERS DESIRED ONLY PEACE? OR WAS ITa sign of good faith that sent themaway?

FENRIS TUSK'S LAST THOUGHTS WERE of hisbeloved mother, and of his fivechildren, who were growing up in thetime he had spent away from his fatherand mother, so that they might havefreedom.

The wind was chill.
