This Past Week

Friday……. John 1:1-4

Six days before the Passover, Jesus therefore came to Bethany, where

Lazarus was, whom Jesus had raised from the dead. 2 So they gave a dinner

for him there. Martha served, and Lazarus was one of those reclining

with him at table. 3 Mary therefore took a pound of expensive ointment made from pure nard, and anointed the feet of Jesus and wiped his feet with her hair. The house was filled with the fragrance of the perfume.

Friday… Jesus arrives at Bethany

Saturday… Word got out, crowd arrived

Sunday… Mark 11:1-11

7 And they brought the colt to Jesus and threw their cloaks on it, and he

sat on it. 8 And many spread their cloaks on the road, and others spread leafy branches that they had cut from

the fields. 9 And those who went before and those who followed were

shouting, “Hosanna! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!

10 Blessed is the coming kingdom of our father David! Hosanna in the

highest!”

Monday… Mark 11:12-19

12 On the following day, when they came from Bethany, he was hungry. 13 And seeing in the distance a fig

tree in leaf, he went to see if he could find anything on it. When he came to it, he found nothing but leaves, for it

was not the season for figs. 14 And he said to it, “May no one ever eat

fruit from you again.” And his disciples heard it.

Tue/Wed Matthew 21:20 - 26:16

• Priest confrontational, challenging His authority

• Parables- vineyard, virgins, garments, talents

• Questions - Ceasers tribute, whose wife? greatest commandment?

• Denounced scribes & Pharisees• Prophesied destruction of Jerusalem

Thursday… Luke 22:7-16

Then came the day of Unleavened Bread, on which the Passover lamb had to be

sacrificed. 8 So Jesus sent Peter and John, saying, “Go and prepare the

Passover for us, that we may eat it.” … 13 And they went and found it just as he had told them, and they prepared the Passover. 14 And when the hour

came, he reclined at table, and the apostles with him. 15 And he said to

them, “I have earnestly desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer.

16 For I tell you I will not eat it until it is fulfilled in the kingdom of God.”

Thursday… 14th Nisan

• Time to slay the lamb• Gathered in the evening to eat• Washed disciples feet, exposed Judas• Foretold Peter’s denial• “After supper” instituted Lord’s

Supper• Many mansions, coming Spirit• Vine & branches, high priestly prayer• Went out to the garden of

Gethsemane

Friday am… Mark 14:32-42

33 And he took with him Peter and James and John, and began to be greatly distressed

and troubled. 34 And he said to them, “My soul is very sorrowful, even to death.

Remain here and watch.” 35 And going a little farther, he fell on the ground and

prayed that, if it were possible, the hour might pass from him. …

41 And he came the third time and said to them, “Are you still sleeping and taking

your rest? It is enough; the hour has come. The Son of Man is betrayed into the hands

of sinners. 42 Rise, let us be going; see, my betrayer is at hand.”

Friday am …

• On trial before Annas, struck by officer• On trial before Caiaphas

– Spit on, blindfolded, beat & slapped• Peter denied, Lord looked, cock crowed• Judas hung himself at condemnation

notice• Sent to Pilate, Herod, & back to Pilate• Pilates wife pleaded, He washed hands• Released Barabbas• Condemned Jesus

about 6 am… Mark 15:15-20

16 And the soldiers led him away … and they called together the whole

battalion. 17 And they clothed him in a purple cloak, and twisting together a crown of thorns, they put it on him.

18 And they began to salute him, “Hail, King of the Jews!” 19 And they

were striking his head with a reed and spitting on him and kneeling

down in homage to him. … And they led him out to crucify him.

after 6 am… John 19:17

and he went out, bearing his own cross, to the

place called The Place of a Skull, which in

Aramaic is called Golgotha.

Luke 22:26

And as they led him away, they seized one

Simon of Cyrene, who was coming in from

the country, and laid on him the cross, to

carry it behind Jesus.

about 9 am… Mark 15:25They crucified Him

“Truly, I say to you, today you will be with me in Paradise.” v. 43

“Woman, behold, your son!” 27 Then he said to the disciple, “Behold, your mother!” John 19:26-27

about noon… Matthew 27:45-46

45 Now from the sixth hour there was

darkness over all the land until the

ninth hour. 46 And about the ninth

hour Jesus cried out with a loud

voice, saying, “Eli, Eli, lema

sabachthani?” that is, “My God, my

God, why have you forsaken me?”

Between noon and three…

After this, Jesus, knowing that all was now finished, said (to fulfill the Scripture), “I

thirst.” John 19:28

When Jesus had received the sour wine, he said, “It is finished,” John 19:30

 Then Jesus, calling out with a loud voice, said, “Father, into your hands I commit my spirit!”

And having said this he breathed his last. Luke 23:46

At His death …

• The temple veil was torn• Rocks split, earth shook• Tombs opened, saints went into the

city• Jeering crowd returned beating breasts• Centurion stated, “This WAS the

Son…”• Nicodemus & Joseph took the body

On Sunday …

• Women started to the tomb before dawn

• Found an angel w/the rock rolled back

• Jesus appeared– To Mary, to apostle, 2 brethren,

and to 500 at one time

Romans 6:44 We were buried therefore with

him by baptism into death, in

order that, just as Christ was

raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in

newness of life.
