April 2014 Brothers All, Well another Elk year has come and gone. Well the month of March started out with the Special Children’s Committee Charity Ball held at the Gramercy in Hazlet. There were approximately 140 people in attendance, including our State President Robert Ricker and his wife Pam, our District Deputy Tom Troutman and our District Vice President Jimmy Coyne and his wife Teri. A great time was had by all, Mike Veth did a great job putting the night together. On March 5th the Special Children’s Committee held its monthly spaghetti dinner. The dinner was meatless lasagna made by Rich Bryk. On March 9th we held our Youth Activities Breakfast. There were over 50 people in attendance. Youth Activities Chairman Brian Connors handed out the Awards to all our Scholarship, Soccer Shoot and Batter Up winners. Hoop Shoot Chairman Mike Veth was there to hand out the awards to our two Hoop Shoot winners. We held our annual St. Patrick’s Day party on March 17th. A big thanks goes out to Bill Gerrardi in cutting up all that corn beef. On March 21st and 22nd, myself, Hoop Shoot Committee Chairman Mike Veth, Chuck Bolin, Donald Anderson and Rich Centanni went out to Wilkes-Barre, PA to support our two Hoop Shoot winners. Sarah Karpell finished 2nd in the 12-13 age group and her sister Julia Karpell finished 3rd in the 8-9 age group. Congratulations girls you both represented Middletown Elks incredibly. On March 22nd the Ladies Auxiliary held there installation of officers. I would like to congratulate all of Carol Goodbody officers and wish them the best in the upcoming year. Also that evening there was an unfortunate incident that happened. One of our members, Ed Foster, had to be taken out in an ambulance do to a heart attack. At the time of this writing Eddie is doing well. I’m sure in another couple of weeks he will be back at his usual spot at the lodge. On March 29th was the installation of officers for the lodge. The Special Children’s Committee and the Youth Activities Committee will be holding there Easter parties on Sunday April 13th. The Youth Activities party will be from 11-1 and the Special Children’s Committee will be from 2-4. There is a District Meeting in Jamesburg on April 15th at 7:30. The following committees should be in attendance, Auditing, Convention, Drug Awareness, Government Relations, Special Children’s, Parades, Scholarship and Youth Activities.
