After almost three and one half years, we have moved into our new work center. It was a much needed move. We are excited to say, at the least, all the kinks and last minute details are being worked out as I write this note. I will thank everybody more specifically later as I might miss someone now. The total cost of the building, furnishings and property was close to $3.5 million. All the new things we added to our program and the size of the building was well worth it. There are a lot of buildings here with names. This building will be named the Carpenter Work Center in honor of our son, Chris Carpen-ter. He is the motivation for Dianne and I to do what we do, he gives us purpose in life. A smile and a hug from him is enough for us. Open House and Dedication of the Carpenter Work Center will be Friday, June 8 at 10:30 am. I am praying for our largest crowd ever to help us celebrate this milestone for Rainbow Omega. Please make plans to come. We are pleased to have Lieutenant Governor, Kay Ivey as our keynote speaker. On April 29, we lost Alan Strickland, the son of Charles and Phoebe Strickland. He was a resident of Rainbow Omega and had just moved to our medical home from the Strickland/Stringfellow Home where he had lived since 1999. Alan had been sick for a while. He had a pace maker for his heart and other health issues. We will truly miss Alan. His father, Charles, is one of our founding board members. The Strick-land family has been very good to Rainbow Omega over the years and still is. Alan was their only child. His going to be with Jesus will be a big void in their lives that only time, friends and God will fill. Hope to see you soon.

Sincerely,

“Santa” delivers a check to Dianne Carpenter in the amount of $2,500 from the Sunny King Automotive Group in Anniston.

Anniston Morning Rotary Club Helps with Furnishings

The Anniston Morning Rotary Club paid $1,500 toward the purchase of three couches from Classic Home Furnishings for Stallings “C” House. Five members of the club came to meet the delivery truck, help unload and put the couches in place. We appreciate their work in the community and es-pecially with Rainbow Omega.

A donation of $1,000 was presented in honor of Joy French from the Brother B Memorial fund of the First United Methodist Church of Anniston. Joy lives in the Davis Orman ICF/MR which is where these funds will be used. In the photo: Joyce French (Joy’s mother), Lee London, Stentson Carpenter and ICF Director, Sherry Carpenter.

Members of the Rotary Club: Jim Friend, James Edgar, Bob Couch, Theresa Lackey and John Vilieant.

New Greenhouses

Jerry Maxwell Davis went home to be with the Lord on February 9, 2012. Jerry was a great friend to Rainbow Omega. His wife of 62 years, Remelle Orman Davis, continues to be involved with our work. Our love and prayers are with Remelle.

James Edgar, Jim Friend and Theresa Lackey do some heavy lifting.

Angels Attend . . . Charles Alan Strickland The passing of a member of the Rainbow Omega community is an event that evokes many mixed emotions for all who are associated with it. We have joy and comfort in knowing that the bonds of disability they endured have been slipped and they are in the care of their Crea-tor. Also, to see that their lives enjoyed daily relationships with the people around them and to know that they were not alone in life’s journey gives us solace. There is, however, a void that only they can fill once they leave us. Charles “Alan” Strickland had been part of the Rainbow Omega community since 1999. He died unexpectedly on April 29 while on a home visit. Alan, as we knew him, was a person that, as Bob Pritchard, minister for the Oxford Church of Christ, stated at his funeral service, missed out on some things in life because of his disabilities, but he also touched the lives of many people. Alan had a purpose for being here. It was because of is disability that his par-ents, Charles and Phoebe Strickland, came to be involved with Rainbow Omega. The impact of their labors and generosity now affects many others. Their love and faith will continue to help both residents and their families for years to come. Our hearts and prayers are with them in Alan’s absence. We will miss him but, we will see him again! Alan Strickland

When someone you

LOVE

becomes a memory,

that memory becomes a

TREASURE!

Four new greenhouses were ready to use in time for the spring planning season. This brings our total to nine greenhouses and they are all full of beautiful plants. Rainbow Omega received grants from USDA Ru-ral Development and ALFA Insurance Company which enabled us to complete this project. Rainbow Omega operates a wholesale and retail commercial nursery. Individuals, as well as many garden centers in our area, purchase plants from us year after year. This aspect of our vocational program is very important as it provides work for residents and the income generated helps with operating expenses. With a lot of loving care, our residents attend to plants year-round. In the Spring we offer a wide variety of annuals and perennials. The Fall brings mums and then we are ready for the annual Poinsettia Sale. Last year we sold around 3,800 of the beautiful Christmas plants and this year we hope to have 7,000 ready to meet the high demand. Each year the calls for our poinsettias has exceeded the supply, this year we should will be able to fill every order. Greenhouse Manager, Sam White works hard to insure our crops are the best. Rainbow Omega has a great reputation for producing quality plants and we appreciate all the work Sam does to help us maintain it! Please see our website or our Facebook page for an updated plant list.

Stentson Carpenter accepts a check from Tim Hester of Mutual Savings and Life in the amount of $250.00.

Alan Norton of Key Impact Sales & Sys-tems, Inc. makes a presentation of $2,000 to Mike Carpenter, Chase Whitley and Daniel Patterson. Rainbow Omega was chosen over several hundred charities to receive their annual donation.

Greenhouse manager, Sam White and resident, Gene Patrick ready plants for delivery.

A few of the varieties from our 2012 crop.
