Postseason Play

•TheBobcatsplayedinthe2010R&LCarriersNewOrleansBowlagainstTroy. The bowl appearance marked the third in fiveyearsunderHeadCoachFrank Solich.

•Ohiowasoneoffourteamsfromthe Mid-American Conference to participate inpostseasonplayin2011.The‘Cats played for a nationally televised audience on ESPN in the New Orleans Superdome.

Ohio All-Time Bowl Appearances

In its history, the Ohio football program has played in five Bowl Games, including three in the last five seasons. The Bobcats made their first two appearances in 1962 and 1968 in the Sun Bowl and Tangerine Bowl, respectively. After a 39-year drought, Ohio participated in the GMAC Bowl in 2007. The ‘Cats are in search of their first bowl win in program history.

•TheBobcatsplayedinthe2007GMAC BowlinMobile,Ala.onJan.7atLadd- Peebles Stadium. It was the third bowl gameinschoolhistory,thefirstsince the1968TangerineBowl.

•Ohiowasoneoffourteamsfromthe Mid-American Conference to participate inpostseasonplayin2006,after winningitsfirstMACEastDivision title.BecausetheBobcatswontheir division, they earned the right to play inthe2006MACChampionshipGame atDetroit’sFordField.

•Eachspring,professionalscoutsfrom all across the nation come to Athens to runBobcatjuniorsandseniorsthrough a scouting combine-like test including the 40-yarddash,shuttlerun,verticaljump and bench press.

•Atlastseason’sProDay,representativesfromtheHoustonTexans,TampaBayBuccaneers,NewYorkJets,CincinnatiBengalsandMiamiDolphins,among others visited Athens to evaluate players.

Michael Mitchell was drafted by the Oakland Raiders with the 47th overall pick in the 2009 NFL Draft. He became the highest-drafted Ohio player in more than six decades. Mitchell was a member of Solich’s first

recruiting class at Ohio. He became the 28th Bobcat to be selected in the NFL Draft.

Bobcats in the ProsRecent NFL Free Agent Signings

Four former Bobcats signed National Football League free agent contracts over the summer. Wide receivers Terrence McCrae and Steven Goulet joined the Pittsburgh Steelers and Oakland Raiders, respectively. Defensive lineman Stafford Gatling and cornerback Julian Posey each signed with the New York Jets.

•Ohio’sPedenStadium,namedafter formerBobcatheadcoachDonPeden, wasbuiltatacostof$185,000andwas dedicatedin1929witha14-0victory over Miami. •Thestadiumunderwentanambitious makeoverin2005and2006.The athletic training facility was renovated and expanded to include a state-of-the- art hydrotherapy room. •Meetingspaceonthesecondfloorwas expanded and improved with the football industry’smostadvancedand innovative digital video technology to better assist in the areas of scouting, gamefilmanalysisandpreparation. An auditorium where the entire team can gather and be addressed by Coach Solich was built to aid in communication between players and coaches. •Thefifthfloorrenovation,whichhouses coachingofficesandrecruitingspace, wascompletedpriortothe2006season.•In2001,a$2.8millionprojectremoved the track and lowered the playing surface, increasing the capacity to 24,000.Approximately2,000lower-level, bleacherback seats – called the Phillips Club – were added to bring fans closer totheaction.Landscaping enhancements created seating for the Marching110atthenorthendzoneand VictoryHill,agrassbermforoverflow seating, at the south end.

•AFieldTurfsurfacewasinstalledin2002,and in2003,anupgradedscoreboardfeaturing a large video screen for replays and graphics was added.•Inadditiontothestadiumitself,thefacility also contains locker rooms for the football,trackandfieldhockeyprograms, plus equipment and training rooms. The CarinCenter,Ohio’sstrengthandconditioning facility,wasdedicatedonNov.12,1999.

•Thestadium’stower,builtinphasesfrom1989 to1992,housesthefootballoffices,athletic training facilities, team meeting rooms and theathleticsdepartment’sacademicservices division.•ThePhillipsAcademicServicesCenter islocatedonthefourthfloorofthetower, meaning football student-athletes have the computer and tutoring facilities readily available to them.
