Libraries are a tre-mendous asset to anycommunity, and GreenTownship is lucky enoughto have two greatbranches within its limits.

The Green TownshipBranch, located at 6525Bridgetown Road nextdoor to Dulles Elemen-tary School, and the Mon-fort Heights Branch, at3825 West Fork Road justwest of the intersectionof North Bend andWestFork, offer more thanbooks to the residents ofGreen Township andsurrounding neighbor-hoods.

According to KathleenTaylor, senior branchmanager for Green Town-ship location, “In 2012,the Green TownshipBranch circulated476,257 items, offered 570programs with an atten-dance of 16,784, and had213,667 people visit thelibrary.” And Lisa Cappel, branch manager for Mon-fort Heights, offeredsimilar statistics: “Mon-fort Heights circulatedover 275,959 items in2012, with 120,377 patronvisits throughout theyear. We presented 325programs last year withover 5,862 in attendance.”

We all think of bookswhen we hear the wordlibrary, and while a wideselection of books, peri-odicals and referencematerials are available atthe two locations, today’slibraries have really be-come centers of commu-nity activity, drivingeducational and socialinteraction.

“We’ve begun to offercraft programs everyother month and historylectures in the oppositemonths,” explained Tay-lor. “In addition to craftsand lectures, we alsooffer monthly movies,

book clubs, a genealogyprogram and a knittingprogram.”

Pamela Healy, seniorchildren’s librarian at theGreen Township Branch, added: “We offer a varie-ty of teen programs ev-ery month but our biggestis the Battle of the Bands,in August. This is a wayfor our young customersto showcase their musicaltalent. And we offerweekly story times forbabies, toddlers and pre-schoolers. Of course, theSummer Reading Pro-gram is a big hit everyyear for customers of allages.”

Monfort Heights of-fers equally eclectic pro-gramming. “One well-attended summer pro-gram last year was theHolly Hill petting zoo,”said Cappel. “Other pro-grams last year includeda Halloween Food FearFactor program and sum-
