If you Soap up under an old standard showerhead for only 5 minutes it uses 30 to 40 gallons of warm water. Installing a high-efficiency showerhead and faucet aerator will save about 7,800 gallons of water per year in an average household.

Conservation impact

Thrift stores are a great way to recycle all sorts of items, like from clothes to computers. Buying from and donating to thrift stores encourages a cycle of reuse, saving resources, energy, and landfill space.

Many thrift stores are associated with charities that help in employment training, rehabilitation, and hospice care. Your secondhand stuff can help the environment AND support the folks who need it in your community.

The average shower (with a new low-flow showerhead) uses less water, requires less energy for heating the water, and drains less wastewater into sewage treatment systems than a full bath.

If you want a clear illustration of the amount of water you're using to shower, just leave the drain plugged next time you shower. If you find yourself having to pull the plug to prevent an overflow, you are not saving water by showering.
