Thiruvananthapuram, the capital city of Kerala is a major academic hub and home to several educational institutions. It is blessed with mesmerising greenery, beautiful beaches with sparkling sands and flashing waters and clean and undefiled premises. This capital of the most literate state in India is home for one of the best reading communities. Thiruvananthapuram and around have numerous public libraries and school/college libraries, apart from institutional libraries. Much to the pleasure and excitement of book lovers, Government of Kerala launched an annual book fair in 2007. The book fair organised earlier were grand success. More than 200 publishers and distributors participated in these mega events. Books on all topics under the sun, for the young and the old, in many languages to entice and enthral shall be displayed and sold under one roof. Besides, the Fair will provide an excellent platform for interaction among book lovers, authors, publishers, book sellers and librarians. 8 th Thiruvananthapuram Book Fair will be an amazing, enchanting and eventful 10 days affair which we are sure, would be remembered for ever. Prominent personalities from all walks of life, including literature, art, culture, science and politics will be participating in various events. We expect your esteemed participation, presence and co-operation. Specialities of the Fair Children’s Corner There will be a corner exclusively for kids in this Fair. Storytellers and poets will enchant children with poems, short stories, folk songs etc. Noted writers and poets will participate in this function. They will also teach them how to recite poems. Short Film/Documentary Short film directed by children/short films in which children play lead role and films that portray children’s issues will be screened every day at the Fair. The entry is totally free. Thaliru CounterThere will be a special counter in the Fair exclu-sively for subscribing Thaliru magazine.

From 6pm onwardsCultural Programmes by school children. Terms and Conditions ParticipationOpen to publishers, book sellers, book distributors and dealers/manufacturers of stationary items, teach-ing aids, educational records, cassettes, CD ROMS and computer software.KSICL reserves the right to accept or reject any ap-plication for participation and alter the dimensions of the stalls without assigning any reason and all such decisions will be binding on the participants.

RentalBook Stall 3 m x 3 m: 12,000This is inclusive of nine panel, thirty shelves, carpet, three tube lights, one octonorm counter, two chair and name facia.

Food Court 6 m x 3 m: 30,000This is inclusive of carpet, ten tubelights, five tables, ten chairs and name facia.

Conditions for SaleThere shall be no discount for booksellers taking more than one stall.Hawking shall be prohibited and no book or material forbidden by law in India shall either be exhibited or be sold.

Encroachment of PassagesNo encroachment or extension in the passages shall be allowed. Participants are advised to arrange the display within the space allotted.

CleaningWhile the KSICL will carry out general cleaning, the participants shall be responsible for the cleanliness and tidiness of the stalls at all times during the cur-rency of the Fair.

Display of Banners, Posters etcWhile there will be no restriction on putting up of banners, posters on or within a stall, nothing must be displayed outside the stall, and above the height of 8 feet.

P l a y i n g A u d i o / V i d e o C a s s e t t e Participants playing audio or video cassettes at the stalls should ensure that the level of sound does not cause any annoyance to either the neighbour-ing participants or to the visitors. The KSICL will be the sole judge as to whether there is any annoy-ance to either the other participants or to the visiting public.

Book Release, Functions To maintain peace and order during the Fair it has been decided that all literary and cultural programmes will be held at no place or stall in the Fair ground other than that designated for such activities. For booking programmes , it shall be mandatory to submit requests to the KSICL well in advance.

SecurityWhile the KSICL will make round the clock security arrangements during the Fair, KSICL is not liable for the loss or damage caused to the goods and property of the participants either in transit or in storage during the Fair. The participants are therefore advised not to leave their stalls unattended during the Fair timings.Any participant violating the above norms shall be disqualified and prevented from further participation in the Fair.

Allocation of StallsAllocation will be made on receipt of the application, together with a bank draft towards payment of rental in favour of The Director, Kerala State Institute of Chil-dren’s Literature, Thiruvananthapuram -34 payable at Thiruvananthapuram. Allocation of the number and position of the stalls rests entirely at the discretion of The Director, State Institute of Children’s Literature, whose decisions will be final. Closed stalls will be at prime places.

InsuranceWhile reasonable security arrangements shall be made at the Fair, the organisers shall not be held responsible or liable for damages to exhibits by fire, flood, water, storm, strikes, riots, theft or any other cause whatsoever. Exhibitors are strictly advised to insure their stall against fire, theft etc.

CancellationIf circumstances so warrant, Kerala State Institute of Children’s Literature reserves the right to postpone, change venue, alter or cancel the Fair. In case Fair is cancelled before the inauguration, rentals col-lected will be refunded after making the necessary deductions. However, no refund shall be made if a participant wishes to withdraw from the Fair, after making a firm booking.
