Grand Annual Appeal

2017/2018 Grand Annual a success!

Thank you to the many families that have already

pledged their support to the Grand Annual

Appeal. We are grateful for your generosity!

A special follow-up letter will soon be mailed to

all registered households that have not yet

participated in the Grand Annual Appeal. We

ask that your prayerfully consider a gift to the

appeal this week.

We truly appreciate any assistance you can give,

and we are counting on the many, who are able,

to support this appeal.

Thank you for your support.

Adoration of the Most

Blessed Sacrament

When He returned, He found them asleep. He said to Peter, "Simon, are you asleep? Could you not keep

watch for one hour?" Mark 14:37

Come and spend the most peaceful hour (or part

of an hour) of your week with Jesus. Each

Friday after the 9 AM Mass the Blessed

Sacrament is exposed upon the altar in the Lower

Church. The recitation of the Chaplet of Divine

Mercy will take place at 3:00pm, followed by

reposition. Please join us. We are committed to

having at least two persons present at all times of

Adoration. There is a sign-in book in the

Gathering Room near the entrance to the Mary

Chapel. If you can commit just one hour or

more, please contact Ursula Koslowski at

781/729-6170 or email: [email protected].

St. Mary Parish 30th Sunday in Ordinary Time October 29, 2017

30th Sunday in Ordinary Time

Jesus doesn’t mince words in today’s gospel. “The

whole law and the prophets depend on these two

commandments” - love God with your whole being and

love your neighbor as yourself. There is no wiggle room

in how we are to behave and how we are to treat one

another. As His disciples, let us pray for the grace to be

faithful to living according to these commandments in

all areas of our life.

Dear Parishioners,

November 1 is the Feast Day of All Saints

preceded by All Hallows Eve, better

known as Halloween. On our church’s

liturgical calendar, it is a Holy Day

(Nov. 1) with Masses here at Saint Mary

Church at 6:45am, 9:00am and 7:00pm.

All Souls Day follows as a special day of

remembering in prayer our deceased loved ones, friends and

parishioners. We will be celebrating our special Mass of

Remembrance next Sunday, November 5, at the 11:30am

Mass.

Since my ordination to the Deaconate in 1970, I have been

assigned with many wonderful pastors and brother priests. As a

Deacon I served at St. Rose Parish in Chelsea with Msg.

McMahon, then as a newly ordained priest in 1971 with Msgr.

Riley in Abington, Rev. Joseph McGlone in Auburndale, Rev.

Sean Sheehan and Rev. Paul Walsh in Acton, and finally Msgr.

John Keilty and Rev. Eugene Curtin in Lexington. These

wonderful pastors (in my opinion) always demonstrated a love for

the church and parishioners with competency. I have been most

blessed in knowing and serving with them in parish ministry. In

so many ways they served as mentors and models for being a

pastor to younger priests as they matured into priesthood. Each

of them had qualities of leadership and understanding that

assisted priests over the years to be better pastors and parochial

vicars. May God grant His eternal rest to each of them.

Our Grand Annual Appeal continues, and again, this

collection is most important to the financial health of the parish.

It represents about 30% of the income needed to make the budget.

With your continued generosity to the Sunday collections (in the

basket or online), we are able to provide for professional staff,

benefits, insurances, programming and maintenance and so many

budgeted needs. Thank you to all who have already made a

meaningful contribution to this shared responsibility. Through

your financial support, some of our maintenance issues are being

taken care of.

This past month and in early November, Fr. Joe will be

joining with me as we celebrate the Sacrament of the Sick at our

two rehab/nursing home facilities within the parish. It is good to

remind parishioners that when possible, before going into the

hospital for surgical procedures, diagnosis with serious illness or

relatives in declining health, you might consider requesting this

Anointing/Blessing/Sacrament of the Sick from one of the priests.

Through this sacrament, the church prays for those with serious

illness asking Almighty God for healing (physical, spiritual and

emotional), as well as for strengthening during the illness and

journey. With every sacrament, God share His graces, blessings

and love with us.

As we approach the coming month of November, a sincere

thank you for all the ways you continue to bless the parish and

priests here at Saint Mary with your kindnesses, friendship and

witness to others.

Fr. Michael

Bereavement Group

A group is forming at St. Mary’s for bereavement/grief

discussions after the recent death of Fr. Dick Messina.

Chaplain Agnes Lugira and Michelle Dickson will be

leading the group. If you are interested in attending,

please contact either Agnes or Michelle to let them

know your preferred day (Tuesday, Thursday or Friday).

Meetings will take place at 7:00pm in a location to be

announced later.

Thank You from Fr. Dick’s Family

We can’t begin to express the love we feel from the

people of St. Mary’s. It will remain with us forever.

Thank you to each and every one for that support and for

the many who participated in big and small ways. We

are sure Fr. Dick was very proud of his parish as are we.

With much gratitude,

Joe and Theresa Luca

OUR COMMUNITY

Today’s Reflection

Interspersed throughout the Church year are Sundays that remind us that the most important thing is love—love of God, love of neighbor. Today is one of those Sundays. You know how much you want for yourself in this life. You know the way you want to be treated. That’s how much you must love your neighbor, so that they can have those things and be treated that way—especially your neighbor who acts, speaks, or looks different from you. Let our prayer today be for the grace to share God’s love equally and unstintingly.

Mass of Remembrance

The Mass of Remembrance will be celebrated on

Sunday, November 5 at 11:30am. Please feel free to

write the names of all those you have loved and lost in

the Book of Remembrance which is in the rear of the

Upper Church. They will be remembered at all our
