    So as every person we have a social responsible for clean our environment and city.new program to clean the city garden and other places with using the municipal labors. The idea is come from the Mr.Parakrama Dahanayake Hon. MC member. So we have started this work now.

    After that second activity started that is about explain about the progress of the previous month of the program. Mr.Chathura Welivitiya Chairman / Chief Executive explained about the progress of the program.

    The CHA Organization invited us for their Monthly Progress Meeting to present the Make Galle Clean & Green Bio Energy City concept.Chairman/Chief Executive of Help-O organization Mr. Chathura WelivitiyaConducted the session. Many Non Governmental Organizations were

    participated in there.In the meeting he pointed out why the necessity to establish an energy city inGalle is and what are the benefits of the energy city. Even he explained whatwe are doing to reach this target what is the strategy we use to reach to thisgoal. Even he explained we expect to implement the biogas units in everymajor place of the city.

    Galle District Chamber of Commerce & Industries (GDCCI) Board of Directors hadinvited us for conduct awareness program for the Galle business community aboutWaste Management and Benefits of Biogas Energy. The program was held on June 16

    2010 at GDCCI auditorium with the presence of leading business persons in Galle. Even on that meeting explainedabout the Galle Energy City. Through this private sector involve to this energy city concept through this we expect toexpand this program to many places. When we finish the program we have good comments from them and some ofmembers agreed to implement biogas unit in their place.

    Now Galle MC has been started

    Energy City was held on July 16 , 2010 at Galle Municipal CouncilConference Hall. Galle City Mayor, Hon. Methsiri De Silva welcomes allthe committee members for the meeting.

    Mayor, Hon. Methsiri De Silva pointed out that waste things are resourcesfor develop the environment and it also have a monetary value also he saidwe handed over the powers to HELP-O for develop the Make Galle Clean& Green Bio Energy City concept. During in his speech he suggests toconstruct a Biogas Plant in Waste Yard at Heenpandala. Also he pointedabout the current situation of the Dengue disaster also he mention thisdisaster is getting bigger because of the waste problem.

    The first project of USAID SARI program was implemented atInternational Buddhist Centre, Kaluwella. In successful way we couldable to construct one bio gas unit in the center as one of solution to thewaste of the place. Lots of religious and educational activities areconduction in here. So the place is very helpful to give a message aboutWaste Management and Bio gas technology among the youth andcommunity.

    There is another villager in Mainagoda, agreed to donate a part of hisland to construct a Biogas plant. Mainagoda is one of the highest wastegenerating villages in Galle. This is one of place has huge

    slaughterhouse area and they don't have proper place to dump the Also Dissanayaka Ayurvedic Hospitalmanagement requested from our organization to build a Bio gas Plant in there premises.

    Help-O, We are already did awareness programs for village people in several villages in Galle Municipal Councilarea about waste management and benefits of Bio gas.

    Not only awareness programs but also we did several environment programs. A tree Planting Campaign wasconducted under the patronage of Sri Lanka Nature Forum at the Marine Walk on . Galle Municipal

    Council, Prison, Forces and other organizations also supported to this program. This program is a city level programwith involve many stakeholders and also we have conducted a cleaning program.

    Environment Day program was celebrated with the students of Sangamiththa Girls College, Galle onA lecture was delivered about Value of the by Environment by Chairman of the HELP-O organization Mr.Chathura Welivitiya. A tree plantation program also conducted in the school premises. On that day we had aware thekids about the important of the day and about the social responsible of each student to protect the environment.

    The committee discussed to update the Galle Prison Biogas plant & the Hon. Mayor said he will give his fullestsupport for that. But Mr. Chathura Welivitiya, said it must be remove because if some technical issue come after theupdating, all others are directly blame to our organization. Finally suggested to build a new Bio Gas Plant in the Galle

    Prison. Also Mr. Chathura explained the importance of an Awareness program for the Municipal Council workersbecause their knowledge is not enough how to maintain the Bio gas Plant properly.

    Mr. Kodithuwakku, expressed his views in this meeting. He said they alreadyconstructed more than 100 household Biogas Plants in Galle City limit andalso he said Galle Clean & Green Bio City is a good concept and don't limitthis to promote only for Bio gas technology. At the time Mr. Chathuraexplained that we want to make Galle City world first Model Bio Energy City.This is a great chance to do it. So we have to get together to develop thisconcept and make the city a research center. Meanwhile Mr. Filet said thatthey financially helped to build 89 Household Bio gas plants in Dadallavillage. Many people want to construct Bio gas Plants, but they don't haveenough financially strength for it.

    Mr. Filet Rathnayake South Coordinating Officer of Habitat for Humanitysaid that they planning to give financial assistance to build household

    biogases for villagers. Meanwhile Hon. Mayor said there are no enough landspaces in City people to build Biogas Plants in there houses. There is a crisisabout lands. Mr. Chathura Weliwitiya described to the committee, thatBiogas plant can construct 90% in underground and we can use the samespace for another thing and he also said Tangalle Prison Biogas Plant is greatexample for that.

    Mr. Chathura said Lighthouse Hotel management interested in thismatter and we are discussing with them. Biogas technology is a goodsolution for the hotel food waste and also for the toilet pits. Also hesaid CEA agreed to give their assistant to aware the community about

    this technology.

    Galle Municipal Council Member Mr. Parakrama Dahanayaka saidwe need a complete report about all the Biogas plants in Galle cityand we should do a survey for it.

    Mr. Pradeep, Web master of Galle Municipal council said that we have to plan a best way for give this massage amongthe community. Also we need more marketing plans and researches. Through this we can develop this concept easily.

    The followings suggestions are suggest by the other members of the committee.

    Aware the people through a Compact Disk (CD).To conduct awareness programs for Religious School students.Conduct awareness programs in every GS divisions, Village Officers and Samurdhi Officers.Fix a another tube to committee OfficeConduct a training program at Karapitiya Hospital.Develop this concept through the Dengue Prevention Programs.Get actively involve to prevent the Dengue feverHave a request in Army camp of Galle to construct biogas

    Finally, Mr. Pradeep delivered the vote of thanks on behalf of the Galle Mayor.

    We have to develop the technology how much methane percentage we had reduces? Mr. Chathura pointed out thatthey were discussed with the Minster of Environment Hon. Anura Priyadarshana Yapa and Hon. Minister Hope toallocate money from the national budget to build Bio gas plants in Government Institutions.
