program, we will explore a variety of spelling patterns and rules, both in isolation
and in context. Cursive HandwritingWe are using the Handwriting
Without Tears program.
It is through all of these components that grammar, parts of speech, figurative language (idioms, similes, and metaphors),
and punctuation are covered.
Answer questions with complete sentences. EX: Who is the main character in the story? The main
character in the story is Robert Hayes York.
Respond to reading in complete sentences. Use evidence from the reading.
EX: My prediction is that Bo will yell at Robbie and maybe push him down. I think this because in the book, Bo yelled at Robbie on the bus. He also made fun of Mary Jacobs and he
ruined Sarah Jane Manila’s sweater.
In Notebook, write book title and author on top of the page before writing entries.
Use tools in Notebooks
Verbalize a plan. Ask your child to retell his or her story to you before writing.
Reread after the story is written and give feedback: “Be a Detective!”
Vary word choice EX: said, replied, asked great, amazing, splendid
Vary sentences, changing the beginnings
Capitalization, Spelling, Punctuation
