SUMMER POWER KINDERGARTENSummer Power Kindergarten is a full-day program where children make new friends, develop healthy habits, get plenty of physical activity and learn new things through play. They’ll explore their world in small groups through age and developmentally appropriate activities.

Special themes guide weekly activities and field trips as kids explore zoos, museums and parks. A low child to YMCA staff ratio ensures responsible and secure supervision at all times.

Summer Power Kindergarten Fees:$146 – 3 days/wk. $181 – 4 days/wk. $200 – 5 days/wk.

SUMMER POWERSummer Power is a flexible full-day enrichment program focused on quality, small group, age-appropriate activities. Kids stay active with field trips, swimming and group games.

We provide a healthy living experience by educating on healthy food choices and the right balance of physical activity. Kids engage in a variety of values-strengthening activities including core elements of science, technology, engineering, arts and math (STEAM), and service projects.

SUMMER POWER THEMESSummer of Superheroes June 10 - 12

It is a bird, it is a plane, it is…. a 2nd grader! This week we’ll be creating our very own superheroes with origin stories, powers and abilities, and nemeses. We will get a chance to learn about what makes a person a real-life superhero and by putting a superhero spin on both classic games and new games alike.

Full STEAM Ahead June 15 - 19

Interested in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math? This week of activities, involve hands on interactive projects introducing kids to STEAM projects. Welcome to the world of amazing experiences that make you say WOW!

Let’s Get Fit! June 22 - 26

Come and join us during this fun filled week to get active and make healthy choices. This week will be full of team challenges, soccer, kickball, relay races, swimming, and dancing to keep us up and moving!

Party in the USA June 29 - July 2

An unforgettable adventure awaits you in this week of summer fun! We will participate in activities that celebrate our country and community, show pride in our citizens, culture, and land. Activities and games might include whiffle ball, four square, a community clean-up, and field trips to historical destinations.

Space Invaders July 6 - 10

Join us for a trip across the galaxy! A great week for any science and science fiction lovers out there. Our young explorers will need their wits about them as they encounter astronauts, aliens, and asteroids in our games. To infinity…and beyond!

Splash and Dash July 13 - 17

Beat the summer heat with splash-tacular fun! Get soaked in this water-filled week of swimming, water balloon games, water relays, sprinklers, and more.

A Pirate’s Life July 20 - 24

Arrr matey! This week, we will all be channeling our inner pirates. Create your very own treasure maps, and pirate outfits including hats and eyepatches. We will be playing several pirate and nautical themed games, and learning that the most important parts of surviving the harsh sea with your crew is Teamwork and a Can-Do Attitude!

Summer Olympic Fever July 27 - 31

Lace up your running shoes, because we are sprinting into Tokyo! Cheer on your favorite athletes from around the world while we learn about the history of the Olympics and participate in the games and pageantry that come with an event that only occurs every 4 years. Don’t miss your chance for gold!

Survivor: Mission Impossible August 3 - 7

Your mission if you choose to accept it - decipher codes, analyze fingerprints, find clues to a scavenger hunt, solve mazes and obstacle courses, compete in Minute to Win it games, participate in relay challenges, and support your team on the Survivor Challenge Game Day to prove you are a Survivor.

International Adventures August 10 - 14

This week your child will get to learn about other cultures in the most natural way – by playing and having fun! Through activities and games focused on exploring the unique cultures of the world, our participants will realize that we all have much more in common than meets the eye. We will be exploring and highlighting many of the games, art forms, and daily customs representative of our neighbors around the world.

Holiday Week August 17 - 21

Let’s celebrate! Monday is New Year’s Eve so let’s count down the clock and party like it’s 1999! Tuesday we will spread the Summer Power love with our version of Valentine’s Day. Wednesday we’ll celebrate Halloween with plenty of spooktacular activities. Thursday is a day to give thanks as we celebrate Thanksgiving. Friday is everyone’s honorary birthday and we’ll party with a birthday bash!

Junior Naturalists August 24 - 28

The great outdoors beckons you during this fun-filled week complete with bugs, nature crafts, outdoor scavenger hunts, nature hikes, and more! Be prepared to be amazed by the wonderful world around us!

Summer Power Rewind August 31 - September 4

Did you love all the water games during Splash and Dash week? Did you want to be a pirate or a space invader just one more time this summer? Then you’re in luck! Spend the last week of Summer Power revisiting all of our favorite activities and games as we put the entire summer on rewind.

SUMMER UPROARSummer Uproar is a full-day, experience-based enrichment program that encourages older kids to explore, increase understanding, build independence and most importantly, have fun!

We provide a Healthy Living experience for kids by educating on healthy food choices and the right balance of physical activity. Uproar brings a multitude of character development experiences to kids through community involvement, leadership activities, team building exercises, goal setting and more. Days are filled with field trips, outings to amusement and water parks, and fun group activities that exercise the body, challenge the mind and nurture the spirit of our youth.

SUMMER SPORTS CAMP - NORTH METROKids of all skill levels and abilities can choose from a variety of sports to explore this summer in week-long YMCA Summer Sports Camps.

Friday Play DaysFriday Play Days give participants the opportunity to put their hard work and new skills into action by engaging in friendly competition at the end of each week. All of our metro Summer Sports Camp sites will travel to scrimmage and participate in game play against other camps. Kids will work through curriculum focused on ball-control, passing, trapping, shooting and defense. Participants have the option of bringing their own shin guards and cleats.

We will practice on a local golf course where young golfers will have an opportunity to improve their driving, chipping and putting. Bring your own golf clubs; but clubs are available if needed.

Start your child’s appreciation of the great outdoors by enrolling him or her in Wee Backpackers! From the moment campers arrive each day, counselors guide them through traditional camp experiences including hiking, nature study, swimming, group games, and arts and crafts. They have opportunities to sing songs, tell stories, and meet new friends. All activities are geared to show your preschool camper the wonders of nature. Wee Backpackers is carried out in small groups under the watchful eye of counselors trained to meet the needs of young campers. The Wee Backpacker program maintains a low staff to child ratio.

Campers become “Eco-Explorers” as they investigate the natural surroundings at camp. We will take forest treks, prairie walks and tours to explore our local wildlife. Activities include: bug safaris, nature hunt and more!

Filled with exploration and environmental education, we’ll focus on fort building and discovery of insects, fish and frogs. Campers learn basic fishing skills while practicing the catch-and-release method. Bait and fishing equipment is provided at camp but you may bring your own.

Young nature lovers will enjoy the great outdoors as we explore the wonders of nature! Campers will hike along our many paths to discover woods, prairies and wetlands. Each day focuses on a new theme of mammals, ponds, insects and birds. Campers learn about endangered species as well as the native wildlife; they even get to see a few animals up close! Partnership with Wargo Nature Center.

Kids develop their outdoor living skills in this exciting, hands-on specialty camp! Campers discover the finer points of preparing for a big outdoor adventure. Participants will learn a variety of useful camping skills that may include building a fire, making camp shelters, knot tying, campfire cooking and more!

Paddle, Climb, Aim and Cast! Campers get a taste for each of our four specialty tracks. Outdoor Adventure is designed to expose kids and teach general skills in the following outdoor sports: canoeing, climbing, archery and fishing. Campers will also enjoy the outdoors while participating in traditional camp activities.

Kids looking for some new experiences this summer can kick it up a notch with a week packed with extreme fun. This camp is designed to build self-confidence through challenging activities that work on advancing skills in the areas of climbing,archery, paddle sports, outdoor survival and more. This camp is designed to expose campers to an overnight experience that includes a sunset paddle and night hike. Enjoy this unforgettable adventure!

Fishing Camp Entering grades 4 – 6 in fall, 2020Weeks of July 13, July 27, August 10 and August 24Member Participants: $220/week Non-Member Program Participants: $245/week

Kids get hooked on fishing as they learn basic fishing skills. Lakes provide the scene for fishing fun using the catch-and-release method. Campers can bring their own pole and tackle, or equipment will be provided. This camp features a special guided trip on a voyageur canoe provided by the Wargo Nature Center.

Archery CampEntering grades 4 – 6 in fall, 2020Weeks of June 8, June 29, July 6, July 20 and August 17 *No program July 3, fee prorated Member Participants: $220/week Non-Member Program Participants: $245/week

While learning the fundamentals of archery, campers examine equipment close up, identify the parts of the bow and arrow, and learn the science behind drawing the bow and releasing the arrow. Instructors teach proper grip, stance and aim alignment. This camp will feature a field trip. Equipment is provided.

Take the outdoors on with two wheels! In this exciting camp, campers explore the Rice Creek Chain of Lakes area on safe and fun bike paths. They learn the basic parts of a bike and how to maintain them. We will use popular bike and city maps to navigate the wonderful trails using the best safety practices. Campers must bring a bike and helmet. Bikes will be transported by a bus trailer and locked up at camp M – F.

Campers embark on a climbing adventure! Campers will gain new skills and self-confidence every day through a variety of climbing activities. This program is designed for campers of all levels currently learning Spanish. Instruction and programming is conducted in Spanish. Campers explorer hiking through wooded trails, studying the wonders of nature, canoeing along lakeshores, and conquering many challenges under the leadership of well-trained staff. Exciting activities include archery, swimming, nature studies, canoeing, fort building, gaga ball, camp crafts and group games! Pioneering CampEntering grades 1 – 3 in fall, 2020Weeks of June 15, July 20, July 27 and August 10Member Participants: $220/week Non-Member Program Participants: $245/week

Campers take an exciting trip back in time as they learn how the early pioneers lived and developed the land and communities that we know today. Kids will explore heritage crafts and activities from the 19th century. They will also make food using techniques of the pioneers. A field trip will be featured each week.

Kids free their imaginations and develop improvisational skills! Campers explore the world of theater through games, acting exercises, learning about stage make-up and even performing for an audience. This camp is great for building self-esteem. Each day focuses on a new element or challenge including knot tying, safety and team work. This camp is designed to build self-confidence and teach valuable skills while enjoying an unforgettable adventure. This camp will feature two field trips. Spend one day at Camp St. Croix’s high teams challenge course and the highlight being a day trip at Taylors Falls for some classic outdoor top-rope climbing.

Embark on a canoeing excursion full of adventure and challenges! Learn and master the skills of navigating along the St. Croix River. The highlight of the week includes an overnight canoeing trip on the St. Croix River.

Rise to the challenge in Leaders-in-Training Camp and discover your leadership qualities. You will learn and develop the necessary camp skills needed to lead camper activities, as well as group responsibility through activity planning. You will have opportunities to shadow counselors and assist staff in camp activities. There will be plenty of time to hang out with friends – new and old. Come experience camp from a whole new perspective!

This adventure will take you soaring! Beautiful Interstate Park is our campsite for one night. We’ll enjoy the park’s rolling, wooded hills and the banks of the St. Croix River, and spend a half-day at Trollhaugen Adventures soaring through the Aerial Tour Challenge Course. Then experience a night sleeping at YMCA Camp Icaghowan. We will canoe and participate in camp activities. Truly a memory-making getaway.

Wisconsin Dells Outdoor Adventure Offered June 16 - June 18 and July 28 - July 30Member Participants: $375/session Non-Member Program Participants: $400/session

Fully experience the great outdoors. Tent camp for two nights with us at Devils Lake State Park in Baraboo, WI. On Tuesday, we leave Southdale YMCA for Devils Lake State Park. Once camp is set up, the adventures begin! Wednesday is spent at a water park in WI Dells. We’ll explore the park and enjoy group games, hike and end with a blazing campfire and a hearty meal. Join us for this thrilling outdoor adventure!

TRANSPORTATION The YMCA provides safe and reliable transportation each day for our campers to begin their adventure! Transportation is provided by YMCA-owned vans, leased vans, and busses. All drivers have completed special training. Transportation is provided to and from camp. Convenient locations have been selected in your neighborhood. Please select only one bus stop during registration.

ALL PROGRAMS• Confirmation will be sent via email after registration. You will be billed for the remaining balance, due the week prior to the start of the session. • Changes to the original registration, including cancellation, must be made in writing by Monday, one week prior to the start of the session. Submit your changes or cancellations through the contact page of our website: ymcamn.org/contact_us. We encourage change notices to be submitted as soon as possible. If the change notice is not received, you will be billed for the original enrollment choices.
