In just seven years Sarah Millican has gone from winning the Best Newcomer Award at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival to becoming one of the UK’s most successful and multi-award-winning comedians, who also holds the record as the highest selling female comedian in the DVD market. In the past when you put Sarah Millican outside, she asked things like: ‘Why? Where is the taxi? Do I need a cardie?’ and said things like: ‘There’ll be wasps. I’ve nothing to sit on. Is that poo? Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra

City Hall is delighted to welcome back the internationally acclaimed Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, featuring conductor David Hill and violinist Chloe Hanslip.Peer Gynt, the story of the downfall and subsequent redemption of a Norwegian peasant anti-hero, one is the composer’s most popular work. Of the four movements in the Suite No.1, Morning and In The Hall Of The Mountain King are among the most loved of all short orchestral compositions. This “warhorse” by Tchaikovsky is one of the most important works for the violin in the history of Romantic music. One theme. Fourteen variations: each of Elgar’s Enigma Variations was the result of a parlour game between Elgar and his wife, Alice. He’d played the theme to her, which he described as ‘nothing much, but something might be made of it’. He then proceeded to improvise how it might sound played either in the style of – or in tribute to – their closest friends.

Only Fools and Boycie - An Intimate Evening with John Challis

Enjoy an intimate evening with John Challis, one of the nation’s greatest comedy actors, best known as Boycie in BBC1’s Only Fools and Horses. In this one-off show the national treasure will reveal secrets from the set with stories and anecdotes from his dazzling career.

Having worked with some of the biggest names in show business, he’ll be spilling the beans about Only Fools and Horses co-stars like Sir David Jason and Nicholas Lyndhurst and friends and fellow performers like The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Oliver Reed and George Best. He’ll also recall tales from his time in Dr Who, Coronation Street and other TV classics.

Wilko was lured into music by the dark magic spun by his first Telecaster, bought from a music store in Southend, Essex, soon after becoming the strutting, grimacing, sixstring rhythmic powerhouse behind Lee Brilleaux in Dr Feelgood. Feel good? Audiences certainly did in the mid ’70s as Wilko duck-walked his way across countless stages and venues in the UK, with Dr Feelgood in the vanguard of the pub rock movement, performing the gutsy down-to-earth rock and roll that was a welcome antidote to the faltering prog-rock era.

Sir Chris Bonington ‘Life & Times’Presented by Speakers from the Edge

Sir Chris Bonington is Britain’s best known mountaineer and one of the most successful expedition leaders in history. He began climbing at the age of 16 and has undertaken 19 Himalayan expeditions, including four to Everest. He is renowned for having made many first ascents in the Alps and all the greater ranges of the world.

Sir Chris was the first mountaineer on the lecture circuit and, this autumn, he will present his “Life & Times”, covering his 60 years spent in the mountains. With original images and raw footage, this is a rare opportunity to hear about some of the greatest climbing adventures of the twentieth century.

The 2-Tone Tribute Tour

2-Tone took the British music charts by storm in 1979, and for a short, but incredibly exciting period, turned the country into a sea of black and white check. The seven young men at the heart of this musical revolution were The Specials, a band which created a blend of musical genres, mixing punk and Jamaican ska, producing an energy not seen on stage before. The Specials led the way for other bands that joined the 2-Tone movement such as The Selecter, Madness, the Beat, and the Bodysnatchers. The 2-Tone Tribute Tour was formed to bring back that fantastic moment in time for a generation who lived through it. It’s all about the look, the attitude and, of course, the dancing! These iconic bands will be represented by London-based Special Kinda Madness, who play as The Specials and Madness, and The Special Brew from Cardiff who perform as Bad Manners. Two top tribute bands who tour nationally.

The Solid Gold Rock n Roll Show

Original ‘dreamboats’, Marty Wilde, Eden Kane, Mike Berry, and The Wildcats, as well as very special guest Mark Wynter, join forces in The Solid Gold Rock n Roll Show.

The late fifties and early sixties were without doubt some of the most exciting and important years in the history of music. With the arrival of rock ‘n’ roll, a whole new pop culture was born. Performing their own hits and collaborating live on stage, Marty, Eden, Mike and Mark, teen idols of their day, show us how rock ‘n’ roll with its fusion of sound and rhythm shaped the style of music that we listened to then and still do today.

Live/Wire is The AC/DC Show. The unique six-man tribute to rock music’s greatest band AC/DC, complete with cannons, a wall of Marshalls and over two hours of High Voltage Rock ‘n’ Roll.

The band aim to put you slap bang in the middle of the show with hit after hit, and you are expected to join in! There’ll also be one or two gems thrown in for the aficionados! Salisbury Symphony Orchestra

Formed as the Salisbury Symphony Orchestral Society in 1917, under the presidency of Sir Edward Elgar and the baton of the organist of Salisbury Cathedral, Sir Walter Alcock, the Salisbury Symphony Orchestra is now approaching its centenary.

Their core repertoire consists of major works for full symphony orchestras, from the Romantic era and the 20th century (although earlier works are often included in their concert programmes). They are continually aspiring to the highest level of musical performance, led by their dynamic conductor, David Halls (Salisbury Cathedral’s Director of Music).
