Unit: Think Before You Post - Online Safety (Week 14, 4 Weeks)

Stage 1: Desired Results

Brief Summary (IB:Include TOK/Int'l Connections)

This online safety unit for sixth grade is their first introduction to the topic . Students learn about personal safety, netiquette and security. In this unit student's will explore the three online safety strands though many videos, different discussion mediums, response writings, and a video project. Understandings

-they need to protect their personal identity from strangers online

-posting to online websites is public

-it is difficult to erase information (text,image,video, etc) off the internet once it is posted

-their are consequences to everything you post (positive and negative)

-they need to think before they post things online

-written jokes in chat can be misunderstood and lead to conflict

-bullying ruins lives

SAL Reflections Other Evidence: Self Assessment Students will complete weekly SAL reflections about their learning Online Safety Project Performance: Projects Option 1: Students will work in groups of 3-4 and plan an online safety video on one of the three subtopics: personal safety, cyber bullying or cyber security. Option 2: Students will also have the option to individually create an online safety glog.
