From the Chair – Message from Patron… Dear Alumni, I am very happy to communicate through this Alumni Newsletter! At the outset, I am very pleased to state that our institution has been bestowed with many prestigious awards. The most prestigious AICTE – CII Best Industry Linked Institute Award was bagged by our institution for the third term during 2016. This time we have been conferred with an award for Electronics and Communication Engineering discipline. I express my hearty congratulations to all the Heads of Departments, faculty, staff, students and all the stakeholders who have rendered their best efforts to receive these awards. Also, it gives me great pleasure to congratulate Ms.G.Selvi, faculty of Electrical & Electronics Engineering for receiving the winner of the Best Women Engineer Award 2016 conferred by the Institution of Engineers (India), Salem Local Chapter. I wish her all success in her future endeavors. Our students also rightly prove their potential by grabbing many awards and prizes at the National and State level. Our students grabbed all the three prizes in the paper presentation at the National level 24

th IEI Convocation and Technicians’ / Students’ Convention held

at Pune on October 22-23, 2016. This is the tenth consecutive year that our students have achieved this wonderful feat. I congratulate all the prize winners and students for their enthusiastic participation and expect many more awards and laurels in the near future. The National Level Technical Symposium Thiagfest and Project Expo2k17, the two grand gala events were held on 20 &21 January 2017 in association with the Students’ Chapters of Institution of Engineers(I) and the ISTE. I appreciate all the faculty and students for making it a grand success. Many innovative steps are being taken to facilitate the development of the polytechnic in all spheres. To mention a few:

Implementation of Blackboard for assignments and conducting online tests for all programmes, Moodle software for enhancing the teaching learning process, Student Centric Learning, an innovative and best educational practice. NPTEL On line courses for Faculty and students conducted by IITs etc.,

Introduction of Life and Employability courses to enhance the

placement potential of the students.

As a result of modern and innovative teaching methodologies, in addition to the continuous assessment and monitoring, our students have been producing excellent results in examinations and getting placed in reputed organizations with high perks. This year, we have achieved awesome placement of 160% for 400 students with 632 job offers including 150 Double offers,80 Triple offers and 5 four offers in more than 60 reputed organisations with an annual salary pack ranging from 1.50lakhs to 3.50 lakhs. I express my heartfelt congratulations to all the students, Placement Officer, Placement co-ordinators and faculty members for your good efforts in achieving this wonderful feat. Now, I invite all the alumni to visit the alma mater, make use of the facilities, offer suggestions for further development and disseminate the features of this institution to the industrial world. The overwhelming response for the Annual General Body Meeting of Alumni Association held on 18 Feb 2017 was greatly appreciated by the management. The endowment funds created reveals the gratitude and concern that the Alumni have towards their Alma Mater. In recognition of the involvement of Alumni, we have honoured nine elite alumni from each discipline during the 59h Annual Day celebrations of our college on 25 Feb 2017. Executive Council Meeting

The Executive Council Meeting was held on 22.12.2016 and 60

members participated.

In the Executive Council Meeting, it was unanimously decided

To collect a data bank from all the passed out Alumni to

print a book

To download the different Alumni scholarship format from

the website and submit through the respective heads of

department

A resolution was passed during this meeting that the

executive members from outstation can avail a sum of

rupees seven hundred and fifty and local executive

members can avail rupees five hundred as incidental

charges for attending the executive meeting

General body meeting

The Annual General Body meeting of the Alumni Association was

held on 18th Feb 2017.

Sri.S.Loganathan, President of Alumni Association warmly

welcomed the gathering and highlighted about Alumni activities

and detailed about the scholarships distributed to the students.

Smt. C.Jayanthi, Treasurer of Alumni Association presented the

audited accounts for the year 2016 and was approved by the

Alumni General body members. Our retired faculty members were

honoured for rendering their valuable services for the growth and

development of our prestigious Institution. Alumni Scholarship was

distributed to Merit based, Need based, Under privileged, Sports &

Games and Best NCC, NSS, ISTE, IE(I) for about 5 lakhs for 205

Polytechnic students. Our beloved Principal Dr.V.Karthikeyan

reminisced the commendable and unique services of Chairman

Sri.C.Valliappa in the development of Thiagarajar Polytechnic

College during the past six decades. He expressed his gratitude for

the active involvement of Alumni and Industrial personnel for our

NBA re-accreditation for the second term of five years from March

2012 and the active participation of our Alumni members in liaison

with the institution by providing guest lectures, training facilities,

and creating endowment funds. The Principal emphasized that, in

NBA alumni interaction more than 300 alumni of our institution

participated and the NBA committee appreciated the strength of

alumni which was never seen by them in any other institution. He

conveyed that the NBA Team experts were amazed on the

emotional attachment of Alumni with the development of the

institution. Our Principal, being an outstanding Alumnus of TPT,

highlighted the achievements of the institution and acclaimed that

everyone should feel proud of being TPTian. He also thanked to the alumni for all those who provide continuous support and contribution to our Institution. He also invited Sri.Ramesh 1987/Mechanical to open the Hyundai motor skill training center. He also thaned the Hyundai Motors for their generous donation of Hyundai Sonata Car to our institution. This car serves in a vey useful manner, through which, the Mechanical engineering students perform their relevant practical sessions in an excellent manner. He specially thanked Sri.M.Rajan, 1973 batch Mechanical Engineering alumnus for his regular contribution of Rs.10,000 as for alumni fund every year.

IE(I) National Level Best Student Chapter Award received by our

State Level NSS Awards for the institution, Programme Officers

and Volunteers.

Prizes won by the students in IEI National Level conventions for

10th

year consecutively.

Best Polytechnic College Award in the IPAA State Level Sports

Games Tournaments.

Best ISTE Student Chapter Staff Advisor Award for 2015,TN & P.

SEED - SIIP Award during 2017

Best AICTE –CII – Linked Technical Institute Award-2016 for good

industry institute linkages.

In addition, 40 Technical Seminars were arranged for students where renowned Industrialists and technocrats presented their lectures.

National Level Technical Symposia THIAGFEST2K17 and ProjectExpo were successfully conducted on 20.01.17&21.01.17 in association with IE (I) & ISTE, for all disciplines of Engineering & Technology. Totally 160 external and 107 internal participants participated in the events.

TRAINING & PLACEMENT CELL

An exclusive Training and Placement cell is functioning in the institution with a full time Placement officer guided by Mr.R.Chandarsekaran, HoD/Textile Technology. In order to improve the effectiveness of Placement, this year, Audit courses (Life and Employability courses) are being conducted to the final year students. Graduation Day 2017

The Graduation Day 2017 was celebrated for the first of its kind in a grand manner in our institution. The Chief Guest of the day Sri.Manikam Ramaswami, Chairman & Managing Director, Loyal Textiles Mills Ltd., Chennai, delivered the Graduation Day Address and distributed the certificates to the graduates.

Our Hon’ble Chairman Sr.C.Valliappa declared open the Graduation day and delivered the Presidential address. Our Vice Chairmen Sri.Chocko Valliappa and Sri.Thyagu Valliappa motivated the students for their successful career.

Dr.V.Karthikeyan, Principal presented the Graduation Day report. 718 Diploma Graduates obtained their certificates and among them 33 students who secured the I, II and III ranks in each programme received the Academic proficiency awards.
