SPAIN’S LEGACY Spain was in control of Texas for more

than 300 years, but there was little growth, only three settlements were established, (San Antonio, Goliad, Nacogdoches).

Spain was unable to attract many settlers into Texas, because there was no gold, and no filibusters from America.

Many towns and roads in Texas have Spanish names, and the language is still used today.
