Audience Theories Psychographic and Demographics • Demographics • C2-E • I chose these because people in higher managerial and

intermediate managerial jobs would stereotypically listen to classical or mainstream music whereas labourers and people in low pay would tend to be younger, mid teens – mid 20’s meaning they are more adventurous with their choices

• Psychographics • Reformer / Explorer – I chose reformer because the kind

of band that this magazines writes about do not follow the ‘mainstreamer’ music type of love, they usually write more about things to do with social awareness. The people who would usually buy this are anti-materialistic and have an independent judgement so they do not follow the usual things. It also falls into the explorer category because of ‘brand choice highlights difference’ this means they do not necessarily follow what everyone else is doing, they are not afraid to try new brands first.

Representation Theories

Hegemonic Marxist TheoriesThis goes against the Hegemonic Marxist theory because the lead female vocalist is centrally composed, this goes against it due to the theory stating ‘the world view is produced predominantly by white, middle class, middle aged, heterosexual men…..it is their ideas and values that infiltrate media texts and insure ‘other’ voices do not get heard’, therefore this magazine is contradicting the fact that the middle aged men have direct control.

Narrative theories These narrative theories • Colloquial language is used in quotes

however the in the actual articles themselves the language is quite formal, this would go against the stereotypical view of ‘Kerrang!’ that is ‘going against society’

• Many of the ‘Kerrang!’ articles have the interview questions intertwined with the behaviour on the photo shoot

• Not only do they quote some of the questions and answers, they also state event that happened during the whole interview, such as the individual band members behaviour briefly, or the different answers given from each
